California Bans State-Funded Travel Against States that Discriminate
California bans state travel to Florida, 4 other states
California added five more states, including Florida, to the list of places where state-funded travel is banned because of laws that discriminate against members of the LGBTQ community, the state attorney general announced Monday.
Democratic Attorney General Rob Bonta added Florida, Arkansas, Montana, North Dakota and West Virginia to the list that now has 17 states where state employee travel is forbidden except under limited circumstances.
“Make no mistake: We’re in the midst of an unprecedented wave of bigotry and discrimination in this country — and the State of California is not going to support it,” Bonta said.
Lawmakers in 2016 banned non-essential travel to states with laws that discriminate against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. The 12 other states on the list are: Texas, Alabama, Idaho, Iowa, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Kentucky, North Carolina, Kansas, Mississippi, Tennessee.

GOOD. I wish they'd ban flights FROM those states, for everybody. Not just for discrimination but because those same states are COVIDiots when it comes to practicing safe pandemic protocols.
Or, just the ENTIRE SOUTH.
Trump attorneys meet with New York prosecutors to argue that his company should not be criminally charged over its business practices
Attorneys for the Trump Organization met with New York prosecutors on Monday to argue that former president Donald Trump's company should not be criminally charged over its business dealings, according to three people familiar with the meeting.
Previously, the prosecutors — working for Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. (D) and New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) — had set Monday as the last day for the organization’s lawyers to make their case.
After Monday’s session, spokespeople for both Vance and James declined to comment. No charges were announced on Monday. Vance has convened a grand jury in Manhattan to vote on potential indictments in the investigation, but so far, no person or entity connected to Trump has been charged. It remains possible that none will be. Those familiar with the investigation spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the private meetings.

Arizona's Maricopa County to replace all voting machines after GOP audit
Arizona’s Maricopa County announced Monday that it plans to replace all of the voting machines that were turned over to the state Senate and other officials overseeing the audit of 2020 presidential election results.
The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors released its response to a May letter from Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs (D), in which she expressed concerns “regarding the security and integrity of these machines, given that the chain of custody, a critical security tenet, has been compromised and election officials do not know what was done to the machines while under Cyber Ninjas’ control.”
In response, the county told Hobbs it “shares your concerns” and added that the board acknowledges the secretary of state’s “authority as Arizona’s Chief Election Officer to determine what equipment is acceptable for use in Arizona’s elections.”

Well, this seemed worthwhile! (not)
I do have to wonder if this was the outcome they wanted. I bet there's some grift here we don't yet see.
The Delta variant will cause ‘very dense outbreaks' in these five states, expert says
The Delta variant, a strain of Covid-19 believed to be more transmissible and dangerous than others, is likely to break out in some US communities, a health expert told CBS's “Face the Nation.””It's not going to be as pervasive,” Dr. Scott Gottlieb, former commissioner of the US Food and Drug Administration, said Sunday. “It's going to hyper-regionalized. There's certain pockets of the country where you're going to have very dense outbreaks.”Those pockets will be ones with low vaccination rates and low rates of prior infection, Gottlieb said, like inmany rural and southern communities.
There are at least 200 known cases of the Delta Plus coronavirus variant worldwide. Here's what we knowAccording to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 46.1% of the total US population has been vaccinated against Covid-19. Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Wyoming are among the states with the lowest vaccination rates, with less than 35% of their population fully vaccinated.

See above. They can add Wyoming and Louisiana to the list.
Sydney McLaughlin obliterates women's 400m hurdles world record in a day of record heat
American athlete Sydney McLaughlin obliterated the women's 400m hurdles world record at the US Olympic trials on Sunday.
The 21-year-old ran an astonishing 51.90 seconds, smashing the previous record by .26 seconds to become the first woman to run the 400m hurdles in less than 52 seconds.
In the process of winning, McLaughlin beat the previous world record holder Dalilah Muhammad to cement herself as the favorite for the Tokyo Games this year.Following a powerful finish, McLaughlin sank to her haunches, mouth gaping in surprise.
CNN
She did this in 100+ temps. Event officials said the temperature reached a high of 109!
I absolutely love the Olympic Trials, especially track & field.
Dipping Sauce Rage Results In Man's Arrest
JUNE 28–After realizing that dipping sauce was not included with his Chicken McNuggets order, an Iowa man called his local McDonald’s and threatened to blow up the restaurant, according to investigators.
Robert Golwitzer, 42, was arrested Saturday evening and charged with making a false report about an explosive or incendiary device, a felony.
Golwitzer allegedly phoned in a threat to a McDonald’s five miles from his home in Ankeny, a Des Moines suburb.
The phone threat, cops charge, came after Golwitzer discovered that his McDonald’s order was bereft of dipping sauces.
The threatening call to the restaurant was placed “from a phone number associated with [Golwitzer],” according to a criminal complaint. In addition to claiming that he would “blow up” the eatery, Golwitzer threatened to assault an employee, police say.
When questioned by cops, Golwitzer admitted he “called the victim and made threats,” the complaint states. Pictured above, Golwitzer was released early yesterday from the Polk County jail after posting bond.

BREAKING: Senate Democrats Threaten to Subpoena Barr, Sessions
Senate Democratic leaders on Friday demanded that former attorneys general in the Trump administration testify over secret subpoenas of two House Democrats.
Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Judiciary Committee Chairman Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.) called the secret subpoenas “a gross abuse of power and an assault on the separation of powers.” They said that if former Trump Attorneys General William P. Barr and Jeff Sessions do not voluntarily testify, they will be subpoenaed to appear before Durbin’s committee.
The statement from Schumer and Durbin is in response to reports Thursday night that the Justice Department in 2018 secretly subpoenaed Apple for the data of two Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Adam B. Schiff (Calif.) and Rep. Eric Swalwell (Calif.), as well as the data of their current and former staffers and family members.

Biden Brings Back US in Global Approval
The end of Trump's presidency brought the US one of its biggest spikes in global approval ratings on record
The global image of the United States has vastly improved under President Joe Biden from all-time low ratings under President Donald Trump, data released by Pew Research Center on Thursday indicates.
Pew polled 16,254 people in 16 countries from March 12 to May 26 and found a major shift in their attitudes since Trump left the White House.
The US's median favorability rating increased by 28 percentage points, one of the biggest spikes since Pew started polling more than two decades ago: It jumped to 62% this year from 34% in 2020.
In six countries — France, Germany, Japan, Italy, the Netherlands, and Canada — the share of favorable opinions of the US grew by at least 25 percentage points, returning to the high ratings seen during the Obama era.
Business Insider
Wow, what a difference a POTUS makes!
Who knew the office of the United States President had so much promise? LOL
The Geophysicist Who Stormed the Capitol
Sabol, 51, is a geophysicist from Kittredge, Colorado, a small town in the mountains outside Denver. In the weeks after the insurrection, he became one of the approximately 465 people charged so far for their participation in the January 6 insurrection.Sabol faces eight counts, several of them felonies, including the assault of police officers. He and four other defendants named in the same indictment are accused of participating in some of the day’s worst violence, which took place around 4:30 p.m. and resulted in several officers being stripped of their protective gear, dragged, stomped on, and attacked with crutches and a flagpole.

Dude went off the deep end.
Here's a scary thought: Scientists and mathematicians and all sorts of “smart people” LOVE #TFG.
American (well, the US) has a severe mental health issue.
DOJ charges six connected to pro-Trump rallies and right-wing revolutionary group in new Capitol riot conspiracy case
Six men from California who allegedly organized themselves as a “DC Brigade,” including one man who spoke at a right-wing rally in Washington, DC, the day before the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, face new conspiracy charges from the Justice Department, according to court documents made public on Thursday.
The case adds to a pile of prosecutions that investigators have pursued alleging that groups of American extremists from far-right organizations like the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers worked together to plan the attack on Congress' certification of the presidential vote.
This is the first case against multiple people said to be affiliated with the Three Percenters. The alleged Three Percenter conspirators are: Alan Hostetter, of San Clemente, Russell Taylor, of Ladera Ranch, Erik Scott Warner of Menifee, Felipe Antonio “Tony” Martinez and Derek Kinnison, of Lake Elsinore, and Ronald Mele, of Temecula.

“Librul” California isn't immune. In fact, if you look at a map of Cali, it's mostly redneck assholes with a few blue hotspots in the Bay Area and Los Angeles (where the vast majority of people live).
Trump Justice Dept. secretly subpoenaed records of two Democrats on House Intelligence Committee
The Justice Department in 2018 secretly subpoenaed Apple for the data of two Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee, as well as the data of their current and former staffers and family members, in an aggressive push by the Trump administration to determine who was leaking classified information to the news media, according to a committee official and one of the affected lawmakers.
The department sought data on two lawmakers from California who were prominent critics of President Donald Trump — Rep. Adam B. Schiff, then the panel’s ranking Democrat and now its chairman, and Rep. Eric Swalwell — the committee official and Swalwell said Thursday night. The committee official, who like others spoke on the condition of anonymity because the matter remains politically sensitive, said that Apple in May had notified at least 12 people connected to the panel of subpoenas for their data, and that one minor was among them.
Democrats swiftly condemned the moves, news of which followed three recent disclosures to national media organizations that the Trump Justice Department had secretly sought reporters’ phone and email records in an effort to identify the sources of leaks.

#TFG cheated all the way until the very end. And he's not stopping now.
Here's a theory: The GQP takes back the House and Senate in 2022. In 2024, because of all the sweeping laws put into place around election rules for many states, the Republican nominee (most likely #TFG) loses both the popular vote and electoral college, BUT states reverse their election results and make him the new President.
And guess what? Then the Congress approves it all.
It's not far-fetched. It's becoming reality.
Florida Publix shooting: Man kills woman, child, himself in Palm Beach
A man fatally shot a woman and a child inside a Florida supermarket Thursday before killing himself, authorities said, causing dozens to flee the store in panic.
The shooting happened shortly after 11:30 a.m. at a Publix located in a strip mall that also houses small shops and restaurants.
Detectives are reviewing security video and talking to witnesses, said Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Teri Barbera. She said investigators believe the shooter and the victims may have known each other. No names have been released.

Oregon legislators expel Rep. Mike Nearman, who helped armed protesters enter Capitol
The Oregon House voted 59-1 Thursday to expel Rep. Mike Nearman, the first time it has ejected a sitting representative.
Lawmakers removed Nearman because he let far-right demonstrators, some of whom were armed, into the Capitol on Dec. 21 while lawmakers were holding a special session. The Capitol was closed to the public due to the pandemic and remains so.
That means his seat representing a rural district west of Salem will likely sit vacant for the remainder of the legislative session, which must wrap up by June 27.

Finally, some Republicans with a moral compass that doesn't point to a bottomless pit.

BREAKING: JBS says it paid $11 million ransom after cyberattack
The meat supplier JBS USA paid an $11 million ransom in response to a cyberattack that led to the shutdown of its entire US beef processing operation last week, the company said in a statement Wednesday evening.
The ransom was paid after most of the company's facilities had come back online, JBS said.
“This was a very difficult decision to make for our company and for me personally,” said Andre Nogueira, CEO of JBS USA, in the statement. “However, we felt this decision had to be made to prevent any potential risk for our customers.”

Eat Wealthy Americans: They’re Cheaper than Food (Inflation)
This is my little rant on rich people. If you're rich, why are you reading my little newsletter? You should be reading the Wall Street Journal.
Amiright?
DUH: Many Wealthy Americans Escape Big Income Tax Bills
Taxes: Jeff Bezos rates them 1 out of 10.
Some of the world’s wealthiest executives, including Warren Buffett, Jeff Bezos, Michael Bloomberg and Elon Musk, pay little to no taxes compared to their wealth, a ProPublica report revealed on Tuesday.
“The tax law is not designed for the wage worker,” said Eric Pierre, an Austin, Texas-based certified public accountant and owner at Pierre Accounting.
Most Americans earn income through their labor, such as wages, salaries or other employer-provided benefits.
However, the top 1% often receive income from interest, dividends, capital gains or rent, from their investments, known as capital income.
CNBC
The problem is that we tax income, not consumption. If we really were to practice conservatism, we would discourage conspicuous consumption with a national sales tax.
Don't want to pay taxes? Don't buy extravagant shit because there's a bigass luxury sales tax applied to it. For example, a yacht may carry a 100 percent sales tax.
Food, on the other hand, bought at a grocery store (i.e., no value add like at a restaurant) – 0 percent tax.
Prices jumped 5 percent in May, continuing inflationary climb. Policymakers say it’s temporary.
Prices rose by 5 percent in May compared with a year ago, the largest increase since the Great Recession, continuing a steady climb in inflation even as policymakers insist on staying the course.
Price spikes often coincide with downturns, and officials from the White House and Federal Reserve have predicted that prices will climb over the coming months, especially compared to a year ago, when the economy was reeling from coronavirus pandemic shutdown. However, the move adds new fuel to the Republican criticism that the Biden administration is spending too much, which could lead to an overheated economy.
The most recent inflation figures, released Thursday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, are not rattling the Biden administration nor the Fed. Both predict that prices will continue to rise until supply chains and consumer demand recalibrate and the economy has time to heal.
WaPo
Yet another reason the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Inflation measures goods and services we all buy, like food and gas and electricity.
There's A Stark Red-Blue Divide When It Comes To States' Vaccination Rates
Less than a month remains until the Fourth of July, which was President Biden's goal for 70% of American adults to have gotten at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
It looks like it's going to be a stretch to get there.
As of Tuesday, nearly 64% of U.S. adults have had at least one shot, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The key issue is that demand has dropped off. After an initial crush, the number of doses being administered daily is on a steep decline from the early April peak.
NPR
But…
Surveys have shown Trump supporters are the least likely to say they have been vaccinated or plan to be. Remember, Trump got vaccinated before leaving the White House, but that was reported months later. Unlike other public officials who were trying to encourage people to get the shot, Trump did it in private.
The top 22 states (including D.C.) with the highest adult vaccination rates all went to Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.
Some of the least vaccinated states are the most pro-Trump. Trump won 17 of the 18 states with the lowest adult vaccination rates. Many of these states have high proportions of whites without college degrees.
Source: NPR (see above)
Fucking DUH. Trump supporters, anti-(COVID)vaxxers, and anti-maskers are all the same people. And they're really REALLY stoopid.
Biden to lay out vax donations, urge world leaders to join
One year ago, the U.S. was the deadliest hotspot of the COVID-19 pandemic, forcing the cancellation of the Group of Seven summit it was due to host. Now, the U.S. is emerging as a model for how to successfully recover from more than 15 months of global crisis.
In a speech Thursday on the eve of the summit of wealthy G-7 democracies, President Joe Biden will outline plans for the U.S. to donate 500 million vaccine doses around the globe over the next year, on top of 80 million doses he has already pledged by the end of the month. U.S. officials say Biden will also ask fellow G-7 leaders to do the same.
The U.S. has faced mounting pressure to outline its global vaccine sharing plan, especially as inequities in supply around the world have become more pronounced and the demand for shots in the U.S. has dropped precipitously in recent weeks.
“We have to end COVID-19, not just at home — which we’re doing — but everywhere,” Biden told American servicemembers Wednesday on the first stop of a three-country, eight-day trip, his first since taking office. He added that the effort “requires coordinated, multilateral action.”
The new U.S. commitment is to buy and donate 500 million Pfizer doses for distribution through the global COVAX alliance to 92 lower-income countries and the African Union, bringing the first steady supply of mRNA vaccine to the countries that need it most. A price tag for the 500 million doses was not released, but the U.S. is now set to be COVAX’s largest vaccine donor in addition to its single largest funder with a $4 billion commitment.
AP
It's working. The EU is also donating vaccines now. Way to go, good government (it does exist)!
Airline travel horror stories mount as Americans pack the not-so-friendly skies
With Americans rushing to travel now that the end to the coronavirus pandemic is coming into view, flights are packed, ticket prices have soared, airports are bustling, and tempers are flaring.
Laura Ramirez is relieved to be home in New York after what she calls a “nightmarish experience” traveling by plane from Miami this past weekend.
“I was supposed to get back on Sunday morning, and American Airlines at the Miami Airport is a mess,” Ramirez, a reporter at Yahoo News, said. “They don't have enough agents to handle the amount of people traveling, and I missed my flight even though I arrived at the airport two hours [early]. The line to see an agent was a three-hour line.”
When Ramirez finally got to speak to an agent, there were no more flights available for that day. So she rebooked for Monday, only to have that flight canceled as she arrived at the airport. She was left to book another flight at a different airport.
“The airline didn't offer anything — no hotel or food vouchers,” Ramirez said. “It was a terrible experience, and I know I wasn't the only one going through that.”
Yahoo
The wealthy don't have to wait in airport security lines or get on cattle commercial air busses. Just another “jab” at the wealthy who forever haven't paid their fair share for what civilization provides them. (Can you tell I'm on a rant about rich mofos?)
By the way, I hate flying. The airlines are the biggest pricks on the planet.
Where Voters Are Losing Patience With Lauren Boebert
Charles Perko gestured past a vine-covered chain link fence toward a hulking steel facility with massive mills and squat brick office buildings. The 140-year-old complex had forged the iron that built the West, and once was Colorado’s largest employer, with some 10,000 workers. Now, much of the complex sits in disrepair. Some of its cylindrical stoves are rusted and empty—a symbol of an industry that Perko, a fourth-generation steel worker and president of a local union, says is in need of government help.
Lauren Boebert, the controversial pro-gun, Covid-skeptical freshman congresswoman who represents Pueblo, has credited working-class voters for her improbable 2020 victory. But it’s not clear her version of “working-class” includes the steel workers here. Perko didn’t vote for her. And, based on her opposition to President Joe Biden’s $2 trillion infrastructure plan, which Perko sees as a lifeline for his struggling industry, he doesn’t think Boebert cares all that much about his union members. He has tried to schedule a meeting with her to discuss these issues, he says. But the door to her local office is often locked, and her staff doesn’t return his calls.

She is nothing more than a lucky bimbo. There. I said it. Fight me.

BREAKING: Controversial Keystone XL Pipeline Is Halted
The company behind the controversial Keystone XL oil pipeline said Wednesday it's officially terminating the project. TC Energy already had suspended construction in January when President Biden revoked a key cross-border presidential permit. The announcement ends a more than decade-long battle that came to signify the debate over whether fossil fuels should be left in the ground to address climate change.
Environmentalists opposed the pipeline in part because of the oil it would carry— oil sands crude from Alberta. It requires more processing than most oil, so producing it emits more greenhouse gases.
TC Energy had begun construction on the pipeline last year and said about 300 miles of the $8 billion project had been built. It would have carried oil from landlocked Alberta to the U.S. Gulf Coast.

BREAKING: Private investigator describes how he followed Brooks’ wife into her garage to serve a lawsuit tied to the Capitol riot
The private investigator hired by Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell to serve a civil lawsuit against Republican Rep. Mo Brooks related to the US Capitol insurrection has described, for the first time, the tense situation that unfolded at Brooks' home when he handed over the legal papers.
The lawsuit was filed in March by Swalwell, a California Democrat and fierce critic of former President Donald Trump. The suit attempts to hold Brooks, Trump, and other Republicans civilly responsible for the January 6 insurrection. Brooks was named in the lawsuit for, among other reasons, telling Trump supporters at a rally before the riot that they should start “kicking a–.”
A controversy erupted over the process of serving Brooks with the lawsuit — handing over the paperwork notifying him that he was sued. This is typically a procedural formality, and occurs with little fanfare. But Swalwell told the court that he needed to hire a private investigator to track Brooks down, and Brooks claimed that laws were broken when the suit was finally served.
In a sworn affidavit filed on Tuesday, private investigator Christian Seklecki said he knocked on the front door of Brooks' home in Alabama on Sunday. There was no response, so he waited nearby, until Brooks' wife arrived in her car and drove into the family's garage, Seklecki said.
“I followed and also drove down the driveway,” he said. “When I stopped my car at the bottom of the hill, the Toyota Highlander was parked in a parking garage and the parking garage door was open. I got out of my car and walked to the driver's side door of the Toyota Highlander.”
