And these little star ornaments (or will i make them bows for presents? 🤔) will be extra sweet because im going to make custom clay button to go right in the middle ⭐🎁🎄

It. Is. Finished! Finally.

I tried so much to get that bottom hem to behave and finally I just decided, its a knit so that edge is gonna be raw.

I love how it swirls when i spin. Ignore my mom tum, 5 kids in 11 years will do that to you. It was such a nice day out i had to walk in my yard without shoes on. And yes, the skirt is meant to be offkilter as in slanted.

Can you say Circle Skirt??

I absolutely love skirts. I really do. Though its not very functional to wear them since having kids. Mainly because of the huge design flaw of NO. POCKETS!! Seriously how hard is it to find an affordable skirt with working pockets. And i dont mean a pocket thats 2 inches deep. I want a pocket that I can stick ny whole hand in. That can hold my phone and the 3 toys I had to take from my kids cause they were fighting over them along with about $3.50 in coins and still look fabulous.

So finally, after having my 5th and final child abd getting into sewing, I said screw it. Im gonna make me one. But i wanted something flowy. This skirt is going to have pockets that i can at least have my phone in. I'll build up with tougher material to more durable pockets (when i can afford the more expensive fabrics).

As you can see, ive got this beautiful turquoise jewel knit that i bought last year from JoAnns. Its so flowy, its amazing drape. Ive got my skirt pieces cut out (did i mention that im winging this? Just completely drafted my own half circle skirt pattern) and im starting with the waist band.

Im using this link here as my rule of thumb for my skirt FYI. Just sizing up a lot.

Now were getting to the waistband again. Mother fucker that waistband. Attaching literally has me crying.

Idk why but it keeps doing it! Hopefully since im typing this in real time by time yall get to the bottom of this I will have figured it out. That or I'll have to wait for my husband. Everytime I have an issue with my machine that I cant figure out, he spends 5 minutes with it and gets it goin again for me. Blessing of having a husband who grew up in a house full of seamstresses.

😞 ok so this project will have to be put on a back burner. We can not figure out why my machine has suddenly decided to hate my fabric. Ive worked on 2 other projects, one with stretch fabric and one with woven, since this issue came about and switched back to this skirt. It began doing this again. I have literally one option left to try before I have to go to a true professional to figure out the issue.

Look for an update post later about it once i get it figured out.

Hi everyone! As you've probably guessed by now, my kids are kind of my life. So this post is a list of baby/kid patterns I've either already made or plan to make in the future. Like most if not all of the little girl post will have to wait as my daughter is still a baby.

So this skirt is plain adorable and it was easy to size up to make an adult version for myself. Ive shared that in a past post. Its that beautiful turquoise fabric post.

All this talk about viruses and staying healthy has surely made some kids want to become doctors. Even if just for Halloween. I hope to get this made up before Halloween for my 7 year old Riley.

Forgive my tongue tiedness and frumpiness. Im very tired and had little sleep.

Heres the link I used for my measurements on fabric

Now after this, I continued on like I planned and was so excited once I attached the ends, completing the tube. But I realized after putting it on, it was much too big. If you notice on the link i used for measurements, they cut a curved pouch for baby. I didnt do that. I also didnt take that into consideration when measuring my fabric. So i thought, "do i really want to sit here and rip the seams on this for next half hour or more?"

Answer? NOPE! So i examined the sling to see where I could fix it. For one I reevaluated the fit with it on. (I didnt put baby girl in there though as it would not have been safe at all with how large it was). Solution? I folded over that excess to make like a cushion for my shoulder as I know she will be heavy after a while. I added extra padding by using scrap fabric from other projects and then sewed it over.

Before I could finish my plans though baby girl decided she was tired of sitting all cute and content with me. So the rest will have to wait til i get another chance to work on it.

Hack hack hack

Now this pattern here has been my "bread and butter". I first used it to make the dress you see here for my baby shower back in November 2020. It was the second piece of clothing I made and was so nervous wanting it to look good since I had a large baby belly going on with it. Forgive me looking down at the itty bitty baby clothes 😍 I was going gaga over the tiny feet part

Ive taken it in since having my baby girl and now its ready for spring. Though given i live in south Alabama, our springs are like the rest of the countries summers lol

Then I "hacked" it into this beautiful cardigan that i made with some bargain mystery fabric from Walmart. I absolutely love it. Its one of my favorite things to wear and i get compliments every time I wear it. And people are so surprised when they find out I sewed it myself.

And because of the cardigan I made, I offered to make one for a friend of mine. But she ended up deciding she wanted a robe instead. So i hacked it again to make this stripey ribboned beauty. Though that fabric was very hard to work with as it shed fibers like crazy. And was very slippery. But she bought 3 yds of it for $1 (another walmart mystery fabric) 🤷🏻 hard to argue that price.

This all just goes to show that one pattern can be used and tweaked multiple ways beyond what the PDF download shows. And you can have so much fun with them.

I just wanted to share what my work area looks like. Not very big as you can tell. In fact its in the nursery because as you can probably guess with 7 people, space is tight in our house. In fact, when i am gluing together a pattern or cutting fabrics, I do it on my living room floor because its tile in there. Can be hell on the knees though. And back.

This is the top drawer of the dresser built in and the rest are the babys clothes. Its a very simple, efficient set up really.

I keep fabrics in that toy box you can see in the corner. Also have a large Pampers box that holds my printed out and glued patterns since i keep them rolled up.

And as a little side bit. I painted that painting, though im not finished with it yet. I also crocheted and made the clay buttons on those little book bags you see hanging under my signed Alabama Crimson Tide hats (yes im very proud of those)

Hi and welcome to my new Tumblr page! If your like me, Covid gave you a new hobby when we went into lockdowns and quarantine in 2019. Mine was sewing. While were still dealing with covid, I'm also still discovering more about sewing, for myself and for others. Mainly my large family of 7 (or as I call us, my own football team). It helps to have a very southern Nana (grandmother) who was a master seamstress in her younger years (were talking pageant dresses that had 1000s of tiny beads she sewed on BY HAND) but now her arthritis is too bad. So she is passing her knowledge down to me. And im sharing it with y'all!

Now then. What all will you see here? For starters, obviously, pieces I've created or am creating. I plan to do many sew alongs and some step by steps for you.

Also I'll share with y'all any helpful articles and tips I've learned along my journey this past year and in the future. This includes pattern companies that i adore. ellieandmac.com is one.

You will also get fabric gushes when I find a new fabric that I cant get over.

And the personal touch. Photos of my kids and family, like this sweet little girl

Isnt she adorable? Thats my youngest, Katherine. Shes a 2020 baby, coming in at the end, born on December 18th. No i didnt make what shes wearing. Newborn clothes are grown out of too quickly and im done having kids. I will also include anecdotes and crazy stories. Like the time my husband called me last summer when he was on a boat a mile off shore telling me to bring my sewing machine and a plugin adapter to the docks because a fish gig pole (think long metal pole with a giant pick hook at end) had caught his shorts and ripped them in half so he was using his shirt as a loin cloth 🤦🏻 so there I was on the hood of my car, surrounded by boats, with my sewing machine trying to fix his shorts while he hid on his buddies boat. Did i mention he doesnt wear underwear?
