looping in @batmanisagatewaydrug and @dykeschemicalromance because i know nothing about this book, certainly not enough to make fun of it in an accurate way

#I just read the google books preview #but i feel like if i was going to make diverse adaptations of these works this would not be the most natural strategy #like for Gatsby I’d rather either do an AU #that explores the same themes in a different historical context #or explore the marginalization that is actually in - or can easily be read into - the book #e.g. nick’s homosexual tendencies and the debatable implication that gatsby is hiding black or jewish heritage #i would NOT write a story where it’s still 1920s west egg and openly transgender latino 17-year-old nick carraway #goes around remarking on how glad he is to see so many fellow POC at gatsbys party #(yes that happens in the google books preview)
