Thin Thing by The Smile
from A Light for Attracting Attention
Released on 16th June 2003 as the second single from 100th Window, the track features vocals from Robert ‘3D’ Del Naja.
The cryptic lyrics cover the topic of fake friends, and their endless attempts to find dirt on you, hence the phrase “to catch a butterfly”, to trap something beautiful such as a person’s personality, and turn it in to something ugly.

My Only Swerving by El Ten Eleven
from El Ten Eleven
El Ten Eleven has tweeted that the song is a tribute to a poem, “Traveling through the Dark”, by William E. Stafford, in which the narrator disposes of the body of a slain deer on the roadside by pushing it into a canyon. The track title gets its name from a line towards the end of the poem.
I thought hard for us all—my only swerving—, then pushed her over the edge into the river.
In an AMA released to Dunn’s subscribers on Patreon, he explained that he felt that the song failed as a tribute to the poem. He believed the song was not dark enough to reflect the nature of the poem.

D.M.B. by A$AP Rocky
from D.M.B.
On “D.M.B.” (also stylized as DAT$ MAH B!*$H), A$AP Rocky utilizes chopped-and-screwed vocals to declare his love for drugs and women.
The song was first previewed in an advertisement for Swedish fintech company Klarna on June 8, 2021. The song’s outro, which was featured in an extended cut of the Klarna commercial, was published as an audio on TikTok in early July 2021.
On July 10, 2021, Rocky was spotted in New York City shooting a music video for the song with his girlfriend, Rihanna. Klarna confirmed in a comment on their Instagram post that this song is projected to be released “later this summer,” however, the song did not materialize by the end of summer 2021.
Less than a year later, on May 3, 2022, Rocky previewed the single in a now deleted Instagram post, revealing the cover art of the single. The next day, Rocky shared a trailer for “D.M.B.” on all of his social media accounts. The song is expected to be featured on Rocky’s forthcoming album, ALL $MILES.

Pretty Pimpin by Kurt Vile
from b'lieve i'm goin down...
The song’s narrator likely suffers from Depersonalization Disorder, a dissociative mental disorder in which one feels disconnected or estranged from one’s body, thoughts and emotion.
The song uses subtle changes in its repeating verses, progressing through different manifestations of this disorder. As the narrator interacts with himself in the mirror, he begins with the first person pronoun “I” and later moving toward more uses of the third-person “he.”

Hématome by L'Impératrice
from Tako Tsubo

Tieduprightnow by Parcels
from Tieduprightnow
“Tied up” is an idiom meaning “kept occupied or engaged; busy.” The lyrics are meant for the singer’s lover, whom he can’t have a relationship with since she is “tied up right now.” However, it’s no problem for him; he doesn’t mind waiting.
“Tieduprightnow” technically released on June 7, 2018 when it was played live from a rooftop in New York. As Amniplify writes, it’s reminiscent of the Beatles‘ legendary rooftop concert. Parcels were put on the map by their collaboration with Daft Punk on a track called “Overnight,” but it was “Tieduprightnow” that pinpointed their coordinates.
