i think a big reason that I get frustrated with the "liberals have never made anybody's lives better" is that in the US it used to be legal for insurance companies to charge you more if you were sick or even just straight up deny you the ability to sign up for them if you already had a "pre-existing condition", and this was only stopped by the passage of the ACA during Obama's term. but a lot of people who talk about politics on here are too young to really be affected by that since they would have been on their parents insurance (which the ACA required insurers extend until you're 26). and this was all done via politicking and not blowing up insurance CEOs mansions or whatever.

I'm not saying that the ACA fixed insurance forever, god no. but "you can't deny someone insurance for being sick" is a massive change and people don't realize it!

Two thirds (67%) of the public say that it is “very important” that this provision remain in place, including most Republicans (54%) However, only about 4 in 10 people (39%) are aware that that provision is part of the ACA.

I have had a lot of thoughts on the original story after listening to the Sherlock&Co "Gloria Scott" and a new headcanon just dropped.

if you're curious:

As far as gay Victor Trevor absolutely got me, I don't think there was anything serious between him and Holmes. This all comes down to my reading of Holmes, who is (to me) too aroace-spec to get involved in a regular relationship (althouuuughh about Holmes, his sexual and romantic orientation and him discovering it I have had so many thoughts I could write a whole essay). He likes to have a default person though, someone who will take him as he is, and maybe even admire a little - now that's Watson, earlier it was Trevor.

And yea I think Victor got a crush straight away after their first meeting, maybe they even talked about this at some point. Maybe Holmes said that he won't be able to reciprocate this affection but if Victor is fine with keeping things as they are, then he is too. I like to think they stayed pen friends even after Trevor's leave.

I feel like I should emphasize this? My intention in the comic was to make Trevor visibly flustered because he didn't expect a young attractive boy (he's hopeless in my head), while Holmes simply didn't expect to see someone his age and so sincerely sorry.

As someone around for 9-11 and the "NEVER FORGET NUMBER #1 GREATEST TRAGEDY EVER IN HISTURY" response to it I am in thrilled and invigorated by the fact that younger people just make amogus memes and TikTok nonsense about it. A huge chunk of America cared more about it than any entire genocide and thought you would cry learning about it. They hoped it'd make every generation patriotically angry forever and ever and want to join the military. Instead you Photoshop the towers into squidwards house and shit. Never stop lol

Sherlock Holmes (1984) / Granada Television

when I was 16 going on 17 I went to live in briefly with family in a commune in the city and I only really knew my cousins, the oldest of whom was 13, so instead of befriending my peers I ended up spending the entire time there running around with the 10-13 year olds. It was so fun because I was a high school junior but suddenly I was fully immersed in make believe again. we played dress up and made up silly skits and recorded them on an old video camera. we cut up magazines for arts & crafts. we spent all day swimming at the lake making up games like “water vampires” and eating popsicles.

I was deep in my scene myspace phase but I stopped wearing makeup. Most of the clothes I packed never made it out of my suitcase. I just wore jean shorts and some tshirt every day. Who cared. we made pancakes at 3 am and ate so many we were too sick to do anything in the morning.

one time I wanted to go to the store down the street for snacks & and an adult stopped me on my way out to tell me to being “an older kid” with me because they forgot I wasn’t 12 lmaoo.

anyway to this day that time remains one of the most important moments of my life.

I wish everyone in the world a return to childhood like that. I know I was a child but not like that. I wouldn’t have gotten my friends from high school playing witch-of-the-lake hahaha.

I know my specific place setting was uncommon but I still believe any of us can get together with some friends and really indulge in the things we miss about childhood or the things we missed out on in childhood.

You guys should all go play at a lake or have a slumber party or eat popsicles. Love you ♥️
