Top 10 Worst Polish DUBs
As I said in my previous posts about the top 10 best Polish dubbings I don't think there are any true terrible Polish dubbings where every single person is bad. But there are a few badly voiced characters. But let's start this list with one and only, the myth the legend. . .
The Lector! For some of us, it's a nostalgic part of childhood others have no idea what I'm talking about. A lector is a person who does all the characters' voices. In the past, all movies were dubbed but then the Soviets attacked, brought communism, and having a one-person dub was cheaper. Communism is gone (hopefully forever) but lectors stayed thanks to the nostalgia, many people just got used to them. Now we can choose whether we want to watch the original with subtitles, the original with lector, or dubbing. I will say this, there are movies and shows where it works and where it doesn't work. The most surprising aspect of a lector is that it's not only him/her talking but you can still hear the original audio in the background. At first, it sounds weird and it is but it has its benefits. Thanks to it you can still enjoy the original performances while understanding what's going on. It helps with learning other languages. And it's fun watching the differences between the translation and the original because they're not word for word the same. It's like watching two movies at the same time. It also gives off the feeling like you're being told a story which can be very atmospheric. As if your grandpa or dad is reading you a bedtime story, especially when the lector's voice is so beautiful, warm and nice. Movies where it works are ''Home Alone'', ''AntZ'' and ''Corpse Bride''. The worst implementation of a lector was ''My Hero Academia''. There are too many characters talking over each other and the lector can't keep up with the dialogue while maintaining his ''lector'' voice. Let's all be glad we can so many ways to watch movies.
Tumblr media
2. ''Totally Spies'' was on the list of the top 10 best Polish dubbings, so what's it doing here? Similar to how English voice actors changed since the 6th season because the show changed channels, so did the Polish voices. And while it's quite gearing change, especially if you grew up with the original cast the new voice actors do a good job and you can get used to them.
Except for one!
Mandy. Remember how I said I hated high-pitched voices? Well her voice actress has taken it to 11! I know Mandy is supposed to be an obnoxious and annoying character but that doesn't mean her voice has to be like nails on the chalkboard! I heard the same voice actress a couple of times but not for so long and not so loud. And her laugh. . . I had to stop episodes and take breaks from watching because I couldn't listen to her anymore. The previous 5 seasons I finished in about a week. I still haven't finished the last one because I dread listening to Mandy again. And now I have to get used to the new voices again. Let's hope the new season gets the old cast back. Or they might change voices for the third time. One thing's for sure, they can't be worse than Mandy from season 6. Right?
3. Steven Universe, more precisely Peridot. Her VA sounds too old. I know Gems are supposed to be thousands of years old but from the way Peridot acts and looks she's more of a teen/young woman/older woman but not a grandma! And I hate how they didn't translate ''Homeworld''.
Tumblr media
4. Toad from X-Men Evolution. He's voiced by Jarosław Boberek, one of the best VAs in Poland, King Julian, an icon but he just doesn't fit the character. He emotes perfectly, he's funny, and fits his personality. But that's a voice of an old man coming from a teen boy. If he was in his 20s I could believe it or even if he was drawn to look more mature like other boys, but as is, it's just awkward.
Tumblr media
5. Like I said there aren't many bad Polish dubbings (in my opinion), so from now on I will list problems and mistakes which happens in almost every dubbing but are still annoying. This one occurs mostly when translating but it can also happen in the original. I call it ''different episode, different voice''. It usually refers to the background characters. Their roles are so small that they don't have one VA but just any random person who was in the studio and had time to say one or two lines. It's usually fine when watching a show on TV but when you binge-watch it you start to notice or even when you just have a good memory and know they sounded differently. Sometimes it's so bad that they change voices during the episodes. It becomes even more distracting when a seemingly small, one-off character becomes more and more prominent. It's not always the translators' fault, they can't read in creators' minds. But after some point, when a character is sure to stay and be a permanent part of the show, more consistency would've been appreciated. Some of the examples include ''Gravity Falls'' and ''The Amazing World of Gumball''.

Top 10 Best Polish DUBs part 2
6. The Ice Age franchise, similar to the Shrek and Madagascar franchises, seems to be way more popular and liked in Poland than in the USA. While the general sentiment in the US is that the first one is somewhat of an underrated classic and the best and every single one got only worse and worse. Meanwhile, in Poland, its sequels are held in much higher regard. Yet again, it's thanks to the funnier dialogue and much better voice actors. Sid became an iconic character just like Donkey from Shrek or King Julian from Madagascar, most likely thanks to the fantastic work of Cezary Pazura, an actor and voice actor who makes everything he's in so much better. Piotr Fronczewski as Diego is also great with his warm fatherly voice he sounds way more sincere. If Diego had the same voice in the English version he would have even more simps fans. Wojciech Malajkat is great as Manfred. He would later voice Puss in Boots from Shrek. As the franchise went on not only the quality of writing went downhill but also they started casting celebrities instead of the real VAs or even regular actors. Queen Latifah, Drake who was in like 5 minutes of a movie.
Tumblr media
7. Winx Club is way better in Polish, in my opinion. I don't know if it's because their VAs aren't actual teenagers who don't have as much experience, or if they're adults trying to sound like teens and failing miserably, or if their voices are just that annoying. Whatever the case might be the Polish actors strike a great balance between sounding mature but youthful at the same time. Like teens that are on their way to becoming adults but still with some childish tendencies. Not a twelve-year-old trying to sound grown-up or a 40-something-year -old trying way too hard to be cool and hip with the kids. And Polish versions of the songs are amazing.
Tumblr media
youtube
8. Totally Spies makes their heroins sound way more mature just like Winx Club. To not repeat myself let me tell you about something different, the dialogue changes. It's not censorship or completely changing the meaning of the dialogue but the vocabulary. In the show, they are very much Valley girls. In the Polish version, they still use slang that was (and still is) used in Poland at the time but they also were capable of using big words. Maybe English slang is more annoying, at least to me.
Tumblr media
9. W.I.T.C.H. BLAH BLAH better and more mature voices BLAH BLAH better and funnier dialogue BLAH BLAH. What is worth mentioning are the voices of the male characters. Caleb's English VA doesn't fit him whatsoever. I know Greg Cipes sounds like that even as an adult but still. If Caleb looked like his comic version he would be fine but not when he looks like he is 18 or older. Imagine my shock after growing up with the Polish deep manly voices only to watch the English version and hear boys who haven't finished going through puberty yet. I've heard that the Polish language is sometimes referred to as snake language because of the ć, ś, ź, ż, sz, cz, and many other sounds, so Cedric's VA has a time to shine. English Phobos sounds more whiny than menacing.
Tumblr media
10. Shark Tale is regarded as one of the worst animated movies ever both in terms of animation and the story. Highly exaggerated in my opinion. I mean it's not great but it's not Food Fight, Video Brinquedo, Animated Titanic, and many others. I think why it's not as hated by me and many other Poles it's thanks to its dubbing. I don't know if you know this, but there is a Polish comedy ''Kiler''. The whole plot of the movie is that the main character is mistaken for a killer. So, the Polish dubbing of Shark Tale is basically a parody of this movie. They even got Cezary Pazura (the guy playing Sid) who played the main guy in ''Kiler''. Instead of gay-lisped Jack Black we have Jarosław Boberek aka King Julian. Now that's a team-up better than the Avengers.
Tumblr media
It was a surprisingly hard list to make, not because there are no great Polish dubbings but because there are so many good ones. Any movie or show could've been on the list. To make it easier I asked myself ''What Polish dubbings are better than the original?'' and ''What dubbings had the biggest impact on me but also on my country as a whole?''.
The reason why most of the list consists of shows and movies from the early 2000s is because that's when Poland had a little golden age. There were a bunch of great movies and shows coming out, so it was easy to strike gold. (And that's when I was born.) Now with all the trash coming out, it's way harder to do. The translators for ''Wish'' tried their best to fix those broken lyrics.
But nobody's perfect. I'm a firm believer that there is no terrible Polish dubbing but they still can make mistakes, questionable decisions, and voices that will make you switch the channel until they stop talking.
See you soon, in ''Top 10 worst Polish DUBs''.

Top 10 Best Polish DUBs part 1
Shrek is widely regarded as one of the best Polish dubs ever and a favorite animated film for both kids and adults. The original dub is good. I like how in the original Shrek has a Scottish accent but the Polish Shrek is so much better with emotions. During the second act low point when he screams at Donkey he sounds like he's about to cry. Speaking of Donkey, his jokes were changed to be more Polish but also revolve less around pop culture, so even when you don't get the reference the joke still fits with what is going on in the movie. Fiona is WAY better in the Polish version. They made an effort to make her sound like a princess. And the extras for the most part speak like people in medieval times would. Prince Charming sounds like a knight and a gentleman (when his true self doesn't come out). Fairy Godmother kills her two songs.
youtube
2. The Madagascar franchise is way more popular and liked in Poland than in the USA and I think it's largely due to the dubbing of the main characters. Sure, King Julian, his lemurs, and the penguins became much more popular over the years thanks to the memes. But in Poland, they were a hit since day one. So much so that their show is still aired on Comedy Central for people to enjoy. Going back to the main characters, Gloria is way more motherly, Alex is more sincere and theatrical, and Marty has way more emotions and energy. Again, many of the jokes are way better. And ''Wyginam śmiało ciało'' is a banger.
youtube
3. Asterix and Obelix are French comics and eventually, they got their own live-action movies, before the MCU was a thing! From what I've heard they're moderately popular in France but the French themselves were shocked at how popular they became in Poland. For the most part, dubbing is used for animated movies and shows, and live-action shows and movies if they're for children aka made by Disney, Nickelodeon, etc. The divide between people who like lectors and people who like dubs is such a big deal that there will be the same movie playing in the cinema but one version will be dubbed and the other with a lector. Not these movies. The dubbing for those movies is so loved that I don't even think they have a version with a lector. It might be also the case that way fewer people in Poland know French.
youtube
4. Any Disney/Nickelodeon live-action sitcom is way better in Polish than in English. It's pretty obvious that for most of those kid actors, it's their first time starring in a show. Also, most of them, especially girls, are picked for the roles because they can dance and sing and can be turned into another pop star. When I listen to the original versions I often find myself cringing at how some of the actors are overreacting or aren't putting enough emotion into their voices because they're too focused on remembering and saying their lines.
Tumblr media
Personally, the classics from the 2000s and early 2010s are the best. They were great shows which were only made better by a great dubbing. Now we have garbage shows that are watchable thanks to the dub but nothing spectacular. Who the hell remembers ''Bizaardvark''?
5. If you know the Youtuber Saberspark you might know cartoons from Mondo World. Cartoons created by this studio are infamous for their terrible dubbings with broken English, long pauses, characters huffing, puffing, moaning, and making many other awkward sounds. For the most part, Polish dubs fix those annoyances. Characters sound actually normal. Turning them into, dare I say, good shows.

McDonald's. The first time I went there it was during a school trip. I only ate fries and an apple. When my older sister gave the burger from her school trip to our family dog, because she didn't want it but didn't want to waste food, our dog didn't eat it. And she usually ate everything!
But now McDonald's seems like a regular restaurant with a bigger menu and actually good food, better than in the US at least.
Tumblr media
Could've been worse. I've heard many bad things about some of those restaurants (TacoBell) and most of them aren't in Poland or even Europe at all.

Romance in Avatar was never the beast but Korra and Asmai are really awkward and forced. Who would date the person who was hitting on their partner?
I don't like how Luz and Amity's relationship is written. It feels too much like a bad fanfic, Tumblr ''relationship goals''. Also, the fake out kiss between Luz and Hunter felt too much like a subversive ''fuck you''.
Alastor and Charlie have 100 times more chemistry and importance to the plot. Vaggie is just ''the supportive girlfriend''. She could've been written out of the show and nothing would've change.
I don't care about Blitzo's ex. I don't even remember her name. His relationship with Stolas is far more interesting (not healthy).
I don't like She Ra reboot I think it's a badly written show. No relationship is developed. Too much time is wasted on ''ship teases''. But Catra x Adora is so toxic that anybody would've been better for Adora. I don't think they should be friends, let alone lovers.

Tai Lung's story in Kung Fu Panda 4
I, like a lot of people, am excited and scared at the same time for the 4th Kung Fu Panda movie because the franchise is regarded as one of the best in cinematic history, so the expectations are quite high. One of them is how they will handle Tai Lung and other returning characters.
There are many possibilities and I would like to list them.
One of the biggest worries people have is that the original villains will only show up to get their looks and kung fu stolen and get sent back to the afterlife and from then on it will be just the Chameleon parading as them. I'll be honest. I can live with that option but if it is true then the advertising feels very manipulative, over hyping us for the return of the villains only for them to be in like a minute of a movie, if not straight-up falls. I can see a lot of people getting angry over it. I would love for the villains to have more to do in the plot besides getting their life sucked out of them. But not at the cost of the plot. If they escape before she can send them back or if she needs to keep them around because she needs to suck their power regularly because its effect wears off (like in Trolls 3) than let them stay. But if you have nothing for them to do then send them back.
Tumblr media
Tai Lung's possible redemption arc and becoming the new dragon warrior. At first glance, it sounds quite logical and possible. Until you watch the trailer and read about Zhen online to understand that she's supposed to be the next dragon warrior and not Tai Lung. Add that to the list of reasons why the internet will hate her character. They try to not be so obvious by using their words carefully, for example, ''She'll potentially become the new Dragon Warrior.'' but we know what they're saying. It's like the text ''Will the heroes save the day?''. YES, THEY WILL! But besides that, I don't think Tai Lung should get what he wants but what he needs. He should learn the lesson Po tried telling him before he got skadooshed. That he doesn't need the Dragon Scroll or to be a Dragon Warrior. He can go on a journey to find himself.
Tumblr media
Who knows? Maybe the writers came up with an interesting third option. Let's wait for the movie to come out and judge it for what it is and not for what we wish it was. That's what we have fanfiction for.

And if the creators are White some people will complain about it being made by them and ''Why didn't they give a voice to the minority instead?''. For example, some people are salty that Moana was made by ''two white duds'' (Ron Clements and John Musker).
You want more minority representation in media but if they have flaws its problematic and if theyre perfect theyre a patronizing mary sue. If they crack under the pressure of the conflict the author thinks that minority is weak and if they overcome the adversity they must be a neoliberal bootlicker who thinks real world bigotry is a matter of personal attitude. You want minority characters but if theyre a villain its violently problematic and if theyre the protagonist then we circle back to the very first sentence. If theyre a side character theyre being sidelined and the author is once again bigoted, and don't you know that every single minority character death is unilaterally bigoted, without exception? You want more minority characters but if their identity is a big part of their personality or struggles then they're problematic and if their identity has nothing to do with their personality or struggles then the author is tokenizing that identity for clout. You want more minority characters but every time theres a minority character who doesnt have every single experience that you have then you tell the author to kill themselves on twitter. You wonder why not even minority authors will write minority characters.
I would ask you to read Catch-22, but you'd just call the military base problematic.

TSSM - The Vulture
Because he's the first big bad of the series it feels appropriate to start with him. I know more Spider-Man villains are introduced in the first episode and I'll be making a post about this too but he's the MAIN villain of the episode.
Design:
Tumblr media
Using red instead of green works for him and makes him stand out more. Spider-Man has a lot of enemies that wear green.
I'm glad they kept him an elderly man. Some versions try to make him younger and more attractive because they're worried that Spider-Man beating an elderly man makes him look bad or stupid. Let him be older!
I'm glad he's bald like a vulture.
I love his long nose that looks like a beak.
And his eyes! They have slit pupils! Even though it doesn't make much sense because he's not an animal hybrid like Spider-Man, Lizard, or Kraven. Slit pupils aren't really a vulture's thing or any bird of prey. They're the ambush predator thing, like cats. But it looks cool!
The bags around his eyes make him look older but also draw extra attention to his eyes.
In some close-ups, you can see his clearly defined fangs.
Too bad they didn't add his neck feathers. But it wouldn't work with the more robotic/realistic design.
Speaking of robotic design. I like how they explain that he has something like a jet-pack/anti-gravity thing backpack that makes him fly and wings let him steer.
Also, I love how the wings can go limp and turn themselves into a cape and can turn into sharp blades. And they are structured with layers like real wings.
He has talons on his feet and actually uses them.
He's body build is also great. He's slim but not so skinny and without muscle that you wouldn't believe he's able to carry people around. He has long slim legs for grabbing people. He has a V-shaped torso which makes his shoulders aka wings bigger and stronger. So do the shoulder pads and gauntlets. He's very aerodynamic.
Long neck.
And whatever he has on his head. Because it's so flat it still conveys his bald head, but it also completes the design.
Tumblr media
Personality:
Usually being a hothead and impatient is more associated with young characters, so it's a nice change of pace. Too bad it doesn't come up ever again. He's angry at Otto and later at Norman Osborn for an episode and after that, he's just there. In the background, he says his lines and fights.
Potential:
Exploring his relationship with Otto. After their little spat in episode one, they seem to be on good terms. Adrian is following Otto's orders without any issues, he's smiling at him, and even when the other sinister six members are doing their own thing in their solo episodes, they stick together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I appreciate the show for not using the ''I'm the leader! No, I'm the leader!'' cliche and giving us a Sinister Six that can work together and don't lose because they're arguing in the middle of a battle I would still like a little bit of drama and angst. Especially when they have an obvious reason to argue. Maybe show a flashback to their time in prison, how they mended their relationship and formed their plan of escape. Or even further back. How did they meet? Otto working for Norman and Adrien doing his research alone. Why are they science buffs? Does Adrian like flying?
There could have been an interesting story about plagiarism and legal battles. Even if Adrian sued Norman the legal battles would take forever and he would just run out of money.
Or something about his old age. Norman brings up that he didn't accomplish anything in his youth, so why would anybody believe he did as an old man? His old age is brought up many times as an insult.
Let him interact with other characters, especially other sinister six members.
Just give this poor guy anything to work with!

Hello.
This is going to be awkward. I'm the one who sent you this ask about the vulture. I've made a pretty similar ask about Otto but without being anonymous. But why am I telling you this? I want to make posts about the Spectacular Spider-Man's sinister six where I will make practically the same points and I don't want to be accused of plagiarism or anything. I might be making a mountain out of a molehill but better safe than sorry. I will add more stuff. Like points about their characterization and what could have been if the show wasn't canceled.
And why did I bother being anonymous for innocent questions especially if I was going to not use it later?
I'm shy.
And I was worried I might come across as weird or crazy for writing a short essay in an ask to a stranger.
Bye.
I really love Vulture's design from TSSM.
Let him be older and bald!
Too bad they didn't add his neck feathers. But it wouldn't work with the more robotic/realistic design.
What do you think? What's your favorite design from the show?
Bro I really have to agree. One of my favourite things about TSSM is the art style, they made each male character look so unique and accentuated realistic features, Adrian is a prime example. So I have to completely agree.

Also here’s a collage I made last year explaining that very subject.

Some people are socially inept. When people say ''I would rather be dead!'' or ''I would rather she be dead.'' it doesn't mean they want it. But the alternative, getting tortured, molested, raped, being sold to slavery/bordello, ending up as a child bride, etc. to many people is arguably worse than a quick death.
Get off the internet! Learn some humility and humanity you self-righteous know-it-alls who can't be respectful enough to not make a joke or some snarky comment like they're in a movie!

WTF with the animal masks?
Are they referencing Disney's Robin Hood? I wouldn't be surprised if some of the writers were so stupid they didn't know that Robin Hood is a old English legend.
Tumblr media
And this thing was made from the taxpayers' money! The irony is lost on the creator but not me. Can Disney sue? Better not or the Canadian government will have to tax more.
Have you heard about the new Robin Hood series on *shudders* CW?
It's named Robyn Hood (Get it? I'm reminded of all the toys and shows who tried to be cool by replacing ''S'' with a ''Z''.)
They gender and race swapped Robin Hood into a Black woman.
Is the only reason they decided to make the main character Black because of the ''hood'' in their name? Who's the racist one again?
To all the people who parrot how Robin Hood was stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. In the original book, the new king is taxing people to death and they just taking what was already theirs. Also, Robin Hood is one of those evil rich people because he's a gentleman. Back in the day, a gentleman wasn't just a man with good manners it was a title given to the man of nobility.
I hadn't heard of that and based on what you're saying I'm glad. I've always liked the Robin Hood story and it's the kind of story that is made to be retold over and over again but I will be happy to see woke "Robyn" Hood fail.
But man yeah the woke anti-racists can't even race swap without looking racist lmao.
