i'm never getting over the fact that romance as a genre, as the HIGHEST selling genre, exists largely because straight women fantasise about being loved and treated kindly by men and men constantly make fun of this because they think it's just that unrealistic that they could cherish women and that women are stupid in the first place for wanting such an impossible thing

my favourite thing about history (and the reason why social history matters to me above anything else) is the reminder that there’s no emotion i’ve felt, no grief or trauma, no joy or laughter, that hasn’t been experienced by other people across time and space, and the idea of slipping into another life so different on the surface and yet so fundamentally similar to my own, and understanding them as a life like my own, with inner worlds that can’t be easily articulated, with loved ones and favourite foods and days they woke up having slept wrong and the acute experiences of standing in a quiet room and watching the light catch on dust floating in the air, of the smell outside after it rains heavily, of mornings after having dreamt something feverish and strange, or the knowledge of an impending loss and trying to prepare for it emotionally. peeling fruit and giving a piece to a friend. being awake at an hour that feels like you’re the only person alive in the world. that feeling when you know you need to eat and that you’re hungry but you just don’t find it appealing at all and it kind of makes you feel nauseous. i like imagining people in all different places and times experiencing those things, it makes me feel less alone and afraid of myself and my experience feels less daunting if that makes sense. others have lived with experiences like this too, and do, and will.

lesser movies than mamma mia (2008) would've made the central conflict be between the three dads and stoked endless competition and jealousy between them, fighting about who gets to be sophie's "real dad" and who has (and had) a "right" to pursue donna but mamma mia is no such movie. mamma mia is a cinematic masterpiece and as such they are pals throughout, happily go along with all the shenanigans and spend loads of quality time together throughout the film. they are just vibing! and then all three of them become the dads no questions asked. no drama! only vibing in greece

So oleander - a relatively common pretty garden flower - is so incredibly poisonous that if you eat honey made by bees primarily fed on it, you’ll die.  Ever since I learned that fact as a kid I’ve wanted to write a murder mystery about a charming little town where people start just, dying mysteriously, as people do in charming little towns I’m told, and eventually it turns out that the local Sweet Little Old Lady has been feeding her bees off the oleander in her sweet little cottage garden and giving the honey, in sweet little jars with ribbons and hand-written labels that have sweet little drawings of bees and flowers, to every damn bastard in this damn backwards town that she’s built a grudge against over the last 80 years

The play I'm in right now is set 300 years in the future (in the eighties) on a spaceship and the director decided that gendered terms like "bro" and "dude" are obsolete, so we've replaced them all with "zorbo." Which is all well and good except that I've had a hard time scrubbing it from my vocabulary outside of rehearsals and I keep accidentally addressing people with "yo, zorbo" and now I feel like I should just lean into it and hope it catches on.

the thing about the “oh of course fandom gravitates towards pretty white boys & ignores female characters and characters of color and especially female characters of color, it’s the creators’ fault because they don’t give those characters any depth/plot relevance!!!” argument is that it’s just….. not true. sure there are lots of shows where that happens but there are also LOTS where it doesn’t and fandoms still behave exactly the same. it doesn’t matter how prominently the creators place women of color, because you all will still fight to ignore them at any cost in favor of white men. despite what you might think from looking at tumblr, prominent & complex main characters of color exist–& in tons of popular shows!–and yet the fandoms are consistently, overwhelmingly saturated with white characters because FANDOMS ARE RACIST, and it’s frankly annoying as hell for you guys to try and blame that exclusively on the creators. own up to that shit.

What’s the point of a diary if no one is gonna stumble upon it centuries later and fall in love with you after you’re dead?
