On my wall outcomes
Tumblr media
For the end of year show should we of had one, I would have presented my digital outcomes exactly how they are here in frames and on the wall. As a person I would of been at the show to answer anyone's questions and explain what my characters were for. I did choose to not include the sketch sheets, because the finalised paintings and group paintings looked a lot more impressive and ‘completed’ to me and just looked better together as a group of outcomes.
The only problem I have with how I have layered them out here, if I wasn’t allowed to be at the show and it was just the examiners looking around they might get confused at my concept and what my characters had to do with my final project.
If we end up having the show later in the year, to solve this problem I will make up small explanation plaques to show my concept and what the outcomes are for/ why they are relevant to changeable/constant.

Project evaluation
My flipside theme was changeable/constant, and I am interested in it, because I love to explore how decisions you make without even thinking impact your life. I like to link this to games because I like to see life as one massive gamble. Choices in day to day life we don’t even think about could impact something that happens or would have happened if we chose something else.
For my project, three main artists who influenced my art were Jamie Hewlett, as  he helped me to come to terms with how to draw cartoonish but still in my own style. His work really pushed my motivation as well as allowing me to enjoy his own work whilst researching. Here are some examples of his work:
Tumblr media
The second artist who mainly influenced my work was the actual d&d official character designer artists. There are more than one but they all work together under their official title to make the official faces for the critical role and official d&d games and podcasts. Their work really influenced me with the species accurate cultural attire as well as common features and colour pallets/ personalities to be shown off in their pieces. Some examples of their work:
Tumblr media
   My final main artist inspiration for my artwork in the project is the artist @/catneylang on Instagram. Their an independent graphic designer and their  art concentrates on very detailed fan art of one of my favourite shows of all time (Jojos bizarre adventure) as well as other independent works. Their art was an inspiration to me through the project, mainly because they helped me figure out light and dark colour theory and where the highlights should be on the clothing etc. Here are some of the examples of their work;
Tumblr media
Wider world research I took from a well-known d&d podcast named Critical Role. They are basically a bunch of famous voice actors who voiced their own campaign and uploaded it and all the episodes to YouTube for free for people like me to listen in/ watch to enjoy. The campaigns have been going on every week for about three years so it is a nice thing to listen into every week especially when doing independent work. I also used this to listen to when completing my FMP especially the practice work. This counts as wider world research, because I got to look into the legislation they had to use for YouTube as well as how they used their own voices depending on what the character was doing and their mood to pull off and correctly push forward how they were feeling in the situation. I also used C.R to research what goes into the podcast making and found out it takes at least ten hours per episode to film, edit and upload with effects every week to YouTube.
Tumblr media
My concept for my FMP is making character and monster art / mock ups for a podcast game of d&d. I picked to revolve my changeable/constant theme around the game because it relies on dice play and sleight of hand so just like I explained with how I see life being changeable/constant it is a massive gamble of a game.
At the start of the project, I was just experimenting with turning traditional drawings into Photoshop stamps and making digital art based on changeable/constant. I mainly used pen, pencil and then my drawing app Krita on my laptop throughout this project. Right at the start I learned how to make a lot of mixed media boards outside of my FMP however it did help me to push me to where I wanted to be to start my character design. I didn’t exactly learn anything new in this project apart from how to make Photoshop brushes/ stamps.

This outcome feels the most successful to me, because it has all of my characters in it and I was really happy with the lighting and composition of all the characters. Before this piece, I was really dodgy with lighting and colour contrasts with in my works but after this I am feeling much more educated on how to do it and also a lot more relieved.  If I could change one thing now looking back on that one piece it would be the title more central as it bugs me that it’s a tad off due to Cunnuroz’s shining staff. Other than that I am sincerely happy with it.
Tumblr media
For my end of year show if we had one, I was going to present my outcomes as A3, a4 and 1800px by 1800px size papers in 3 large A1 frames. I uploaded the mock up above to show how I would present them. I am very pleased with my outcomes, and from my initial idea sketches of my characters to their refined painting I am very pleased and have learned to trust the process that it will all look good in the end so not to rush.  Below is an initial sketch and coloured sketch sheet for one of my first characters that I made and even these I am proud of for trusting my instincts especially for the colours.
Tumblr media
If I was to display my work anywhere in the world, I would like it to get displayed on billboards in London or around Camden Market. I would like them to get displayed here, because I feel like they would get a lot of attention for being so different and bold. To describe my outcomes I would use bold, bright, colourful, creative, digital, dedicated, detailed, cherished, proficient and in depth.
Tumblr media
If I needed a soundtrack or song to go with my artwork I would use the song; Fall of the Magister. I would use this song because it is a common beautiful tavern song and I can imagine it getting played in a local tavern in game.
Per week I reckon I spent at least 30 hours on my outcomes averaging about 3-4 hours per piece. At home I work in my room at my desk.

Character sheet outcomes:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For my final series of outcomes, I made the character sketch sheet counter parts to my concept art profiles.  I tried o keep them as simple as possible in the descriptions so the art can be focussed on rather than the characters backstories.
I included general facts in all my outcomes so that slight bits can be found out about each character as well as how I would imagine them to act ie- cheeky or cheerful, serious or evil etc. I also included the characters species and a colour pallet in most.
I am happy with these and I think that all together my outcomes work really well and definitely look better when all side by side like how I have presented them on my google slides portfolio.
These are my last set of outcomes.

My final outcomes:
Character concept pages:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the second series of my outcomes, I developed a series of character concept arts for all of the characters ive made for the in game podcast.  There are 8 if you are not including Boulder the Dungeon Master’s character.
The dms character technically isn't part of the gang, as he sets the scenes, voices all the other npcs and tells the story. I decided to give the DM a character so at least he has a face to his voice for people to associate him with in the podcast.
I am very pleased with how they turned out, and I love how different but true to my own style that they are.

My final outcomes:
Group shots, poster, mock ups and monsters:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For this section of my final outcomes, I made a group art concept which I would use as a you tube thumbnail or even an Instagram post to promote the upcoming podcast. I also made another group poster which I have turned into billboard mock ups and another type of poster I would use to promote on Instagram. For my last group concept art, I also made one Hydra monster concept scene which I used as a billboard mock up and would use as a YouTube thumbnail for my podcast to show the kind of monster they are going to encounter in that episode of the game.

Aulom concept sketch
Tumblr media
Hes a fallen angel with partial blindness, a mysterious past and blurred past remembrance. He is very peaceful and calm.
My main inspiration for his pose is this famous angel image :
Tumblr media
I had seen this once when I was younger and really liked it, so I dedicated myself to use its multiple winged pose in my work somehow.  Unfortunately I do’t know the artist or I would credit them but with the colours and how much it looks like a painting I really love it. Its so enchanting to look at. I didn’t want to copy it exactly, so tried to make it my own and in my own style as much as possible.
Angels in D&D don’t have much of a different look to any particular drawn angels, so I wanted to make him as different as possible and go for a teal blue colour scheme to bring his colour and wing definition forward. I think this worked really nicely.

I also finished my other advertisement poster using the same character art as before just new colour schemes and compositions. I wanted to use this alongside the other one to advertise on Instagram or use as a podcast image page however I am very pleased with how it came out. I feel it brings them better together more than the other one and is my favourite out of the two due to how nicely the colours all compliment each other.

About the game:
Tumblr media
google definition: The Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying games are about storytelling in worlds of swords and sorcery. Like games of make-believe, D&D is driven by imagination. It’s about picturing a crumbling castle in a darkening forest and imagining how a fantasy adventurer might react to the challenges that scene presents.
adding on in my own words: D&D can be played at a table top in person or an over the phone online and console game.  If played in person the game typically just needs the DM ( Dungeon master) who runs the game (tells the story and controls the npcs/ events to happen) and a bunch of people/friends, their made up characters and their imaginations. The game usually has a story world made up and explained at the start by the DM and then a slight snippet of what their adventure or goal is and how all characters are to start. From there on the players take in turn to role their dices which determine how well they can play out what ever they want to do. You can buy made stories, characters and adventure packs made by d&d, however most campaigners make up their own stories and characters to play by. (like me). It is less expensive, more imaginative and easier to play when all you really need that way would be pen, paper, dice, and imagination.
For example; if one time the DM explains that there is a dog off the shore drowning and one character sees and decides they want to save it - they would roll their dice. If the character gets above the dms set number they will be able to swim out and safely rescue the dog then being able to happily carry on with their goals in game. If the player doesn't, then the plan of rescuing the dog doesn’t go so smoothly and the dm will explain that the character may not be able to swim very well or the dog had already gone under therefor not being able to save them etc etc. Each dice roll has an impact on their story, making it more unexpectable and more fun to play over a long span of time.
Most campaigns last 2-3 years however it is all the DMs choice on how long they choose to make their adventure go on for. Players can die in game and if that happens they can introduce a new character and backstory to join their friends again should they want to.
In game you pick a race/species as well as if they have good/bad intentions and what their main occupation is. You also can pick what they look and sound like since most players draw and then voice their own characters in person. Like most fantasy games, films and books, you can play as nearly every fantasy based and made up creature from plain human to a tiefling or Tabaxi.
Tiefling- (deer/bull/humanoid mix) My character cunnuroz is a tiefling for example.
Tumblr media
Tabaxi- (cat humanoid mix). My character Felix is a Tabaxi for example.
Tumblr media
When deciding your characters species and then occupation etc, you usually pick their background ie- a marine or outlaw etc and then you pick their specific background for example if they are a marine they may be one of these:
Tumblr media
but obviously if they are a marine then they're not going to have a job completely out of marine surrounding depths. The same with outlaw if your an outlaw your not going to have a shop keeper job because that just wouldn't work- well unless your very good at hiding your rue identity in your job.
Tumblr media
To an extent any one you play can have any job or occupation however bards play music or are known for magic with their music so are more likely to have a musical job than flying an aeroplane. Same with an orc/ rangers are more likely to have forest and woodland/animal surrounded base jobs than to be working in a sea merchants. (This applies to whatever race you play as they all have their own specific known for abilities and jobs to which they usually stick with). Again weather you stick with the usual dnd character making classes and rules or well hey make your own is completely up to you.
For my FMP, I decided to make character art/sheets for my own group of characters to be played in an in person game of d&d. I picked their races, main jobs and personalities to then draw as I would see them. My final pieces are just the different character art itself as well as group pieces ive drawn and a YouTube podcast mock up I made which people would listen in to if the campaign was real. I researched different cultures or known styles of clothing to impact my characters to make sure their clothing is somewhat worn by that kin of character in real or official games. My Fmp links to my original contrast theme of changeable/constant because of the huge impact the dice has on the circumstances which happen in real time as they are playing just like everyday decisions are impacted by a series of events and decisions in real life.

Gelatine concept sketch progress shot
Tumblr media
took inspiration for her clothing from this warrior art. Very pleased with how it is looking and also took inspiration from Scottish colours and cultural tartan skirts. I reckon she would have her hair up due to being in warrior gear so it is out of the way. Ive given her a rapier sword because I think is the most ladylike to suit her.
shes an elvish girl with fighter and magical traits. The only female of the group. - She also happens to be gay.

Gamestore Mock ups

Game poster and group poster on the walls for mock ups to see what it would look like if it was advertised. It actually has given me more motivation to make more work seeing it as if it was a real podcast so this was definitely worth doing.
