We all get a little bit tired sometimes
I saved an exhausted bee yesterday
I think that it was a Brown-belted bumble bee (Bombus griseocollis), based on my research. They were laying there on the deck rug in the morning. I thought they were definitely dead to be completely still, sitting there with their wings fully tucked in and so exposed. I also thought to myself that this would be a cool addition to my insect shadow box idea, where I save and pin dead but otherwise intact large and interesting insects I find. I already have some sort of large moth, a bumblebee would be cool. I thought. So I go to pick up my new find so as to protect it from curious dog paws, and lo an behold they’re (barely) moving their fuzzy little bumble-legs! I spring into action, getting a small ramekin, filling it up with crumpled paper towel and enough water so that they can drink it but also safely not be submerged in the cool liquid. I used a dry piece of paper towel and coaxed them onto it and then laid it gently into the ramekin on top of the table and out of the way for safety. I thought they might be a goner, I thought I might’ve been too late. I petted their so fuzzy tiny yellow thorax with my index finger ever so gently willing them to revitalize. After some more research I mixed up a 1:2 sugar to water solution. There is conflicting info on the web about offering this to bees, so I only dropped a little bit of the solution into the ramekin in which I had them already sitting rather than offering straight sugar solution. This whole process took me about two hours of watching them intermittently for progress. Also I couldn’t stop petting their fuzzy yellow thorax. If you ever get a chance, pet a bee! Then I went kayaking for five hours. When I made it back home and checked the ramekin there was teeny tiny little black specks throughout the paper towel like teeny bee prints and they were gone!!! Successful save attempt and full heart.

Wonder if you said to a drinker:
Hey, can you drink your drink on the other side of the yard? I just CANNOT stand the odour of alcohol.
Hey, can you make sure your alcohol is in a locked box incase my animals/kids get curious?
Uhhhm hey, can you not drink around and hide alcohol containers from my kids? They don’t need to know what booze is.
Doesn’t the smell bother you? Don’t you know you smell like alcohol after you drink it? Don’t you know that it comes out of your pores?
Don’t you know that drinking alcohol significantly harms your reproductive health?
You know, alcohol wasn’t always legal?
And if you drink too much, you can seriously harm your brain.
What would the drinker say?

Today I learned that if a woman applied for a business loan before October 25, 1988, a bank could legally require her to get a man to co-sign.

The bottom sentence. JB used to pace the perfect perimeter of a cell, roughly the size of a sedan, as he thought or when he was stressed. I figured it out before he did, watching him in the showroom that he was still pacing his cell even though he was out. He thought it was hilarious.

Something my alcoholic friend doesn’t understand is
That while they feel at times that they are sharing all of their feelings and thoughts with me, I’m not with them. It’s a much more difficult thing to be living in your emotions soberly when you haven’t got much more than a couple years experience doing so. A person is forced to feel and deal with their emotions when they’re sober, or at the very least, I am.
It feels like now that I’ve left the alcohol and narcotics part of my life behind that there is a disconnect in the closeness I used to feel with people, especially people that drink.
I’m using the word drink lightly here. I’m talking about highly functioning alcoholics who are weekend narcotic users. In my experience one does not come without the other hardly ever anymore.
I’m a convenient friend to have, because I like to support my friends. I’m an inconvenient friend to have because I like to have my friends support me back. And they do, mostly, if there’s some drinking involved.
Hear me out. My friend calls to ask me how I’m doing, I feel good. I realize they’ve been drinking and now I feel still good, but also like a drunk dial. Especially if I don’t get calls from them when they are sober. But I want to support my friend who intermittently fasts from alcoholism once in a while and is a better person than they know because when you’re drunk all the time it’s impossible to know ones self. So I support the friendship back, but having gone through this myself prior, it’s heartbreaking.
It’s heartbreaking to watch cycles repeat themselves at arms length if you know what I mean.
My alcoholic friend can’t understand that. Or does, but is attempting to drown it.

The rate of women to men fleeing the Corporations was roughly three to one. Nuala said it was because women were more ethical, Zeb said it was because they were more squeamish, and Philo said it amounted to the same thing.

Never thought that I would be weaving paracord around a dog toy to preserve it. Yet, here we are. Her favourite toy is damaged and showing the insides. Don’t worry baby, Mama’s got you.
I’ll just weave this right here
