Ive got official “cool cousin” certification from my 11 year old cousin and my 4 year old cousin and let me tell you it is a god tier feeling but man you gotta put in the time
Do I drive across state lines to go creeking in knee high water for 8 hours once a month to catch frogs with them? You bet your ass I do (but that also works out cause I love frogs)
Do I ride the carousel at the zoo on repeat in a row so my 4 year old cousin can ride all the different carousel animals and give them all names? Hell yes. I’m enacting battle tactics to get her to Spaghetti the Shark before any other kid can get him.
Cool cousin/aunt/uncle/family member is less a title and more like an on call job tbh
when people are like "oh yeah i never hang out with my nieces and nephews bc i hate kids. but wait until they're older haha they're gonna love me im gonna be the COOL aunt/uncle/whatever" like i hate to break it to you but even when they're older you will probably just be like any other awkward out of touch relative that they dread seeing because you refuse to engage with anyone that isn't directly inside the usual circle you socialize with. make an effort bitch
I will be real with y’all, the super smart characters like Chris McShell are my comfort characters for a reason.
My learning disabilities and ADHD went undiagnosed until my last year of college. I spent years getting it drilled into my head that I was l lazy or stupid or less than in academics. I genuinely don’t think I’ll ever reach a point where I’ll call myself smart and believe it.
Super smart characters give me someone to look up to. It doesn’t hurt to imagine those characters teaching me the concepts to help me absorb the material better. It also doesn’t hurt to imagine they would still like me even if I wasn’t as smart as them.
Anyone else have days where they just want to hit the ground running and never look back until you’re somewhere you can actually breathe and not feel like you’re constantly suffocating?
I’m a year away from moving to Kenya. A year away from moving across the world where nobody knows who I am and I have a secure place to stay and I can do the work I live to do. I’m clinging desperately to that idea because there are days I can’t stand who and where I am here.
