The Care Bears, Friend or Foe? (Fanfiction)

Wow, this has been a VERY long time coming. I have had this fan story in my Google Drive for around 2 years. I was also originally going to make 2 other stories to go with this but after finishing this first one I started to lose my hyperfixation on Care Bears. The reason I never published it earlier despite it being finished was because I wanted artwork to go along with it, but because my hyperfixation had gone I had no motivation at all to make the art. So, I’ve decided to just make a cover photo and maybe I’ll add some sketches later, but enough backstory for now, this is The Care Bears, Friend or Foe?

In this story, Professor Coldheart makes an evil Care Bear to try and trick the Care Bears. Will it work? Let’s find out!

(This is a pretty long (but not too long) story so buckle up.)

The Care Bears, Friend or Foe?

It's another beautiful day. The sun is shining brighter than ever, and there's not a single cloud in the sky! All is peaceful on earth, as well as Care-a-lot too. With no caring missions to complete and the nice warm weather, this is the perfect opportunity for our fuzzy friends to kick back and take a much needed break.

Cheer Bear and Funshine Bear were laying in the bright sun. “This is just what we've needed!” Cheer Bear said, “Everyone on earth is happy, and the weather couldn't be any better!”. Funshine agreed, “Today is the perfect day for relaxation! No one could possibly stir up trouble! Not even Professor Coldheart!”. Both bears giggled as they continued laying in the sun together.

But not everyone was giggling.. Deep in the cold, cruel corner of the earth was Professor Coldheart! And it seems like the hot weather has taken a toll on his mood too!

“Ugh! I hate warm weather!” Coldheart grumbled. “It's so disgusting! And it melts all of my beautiful ice!”. He continued to mope in his castle and rant to himself. “Not to mention the children! They're probably all cheerful and caring! With weather like this.. Nothing could go wrong!”.

Frostbite walked in on Coldheart, he was holding two ice-creams. “What's wrong boss?” Frostbite asked, “Everything! Everything's wrong!” Coldheart replied crossly, “The sun is shining, the birds are tweeting, kids are caring! It's all gone wrong!”. Frostbite looked at one of his ice-creams, and then back towards Coldheart, “Oh.. Well don't worry about it too much boss!”. He offered Professor Coldheart an Ice-cream, “Care for an ice-cream? You could use one in this weather, hehehe!”. Coldheart looked at Frostbite angrily, “Of course not!” He yelled, “I need to think of a plan as soon as possible. This hot weather is unbearable and it needs to stop!”

Frostbite started to think.. “What if we stirred up a huge snow storm? That'll be sure to ruin everyone's day! Hehe!”. Professor Coldheart thought for a moment, “That's not a bad idea Frostbite.. But what about the Care Bears? They'll be sure to catch onto this plan and stop us! They always do and it's not fair!”. Coldheart crossed his arms at the thought of the Care Bears, and Frostbite went back to eating his Ice-creams. He then blurted out without thinking, “Well maybe we could.. I dunno, make our own evil Care Bears or something.”.

Professor Coldheart's eyes lit up. “Frostbite! You're a genius!” he said. “We should make our own evil Care Bear to try and trick those blasted fuzzy-wuzzies!”. Frostbite didn't really remember what he had said to Coldheart, but was flattered anyway.. “Do you really mean it professor? Gee.. Hehehe!”, Frostbite chuckled. “But.. How will we even make a Care Bear?”, “You'll see my frosted friend! And the power of science and the urge to destroy all the warm feelings in the world will come in handy!” replied Coldheart with a cruel look in his eyes. He was ready to put his plan into action!

After many hours of working, the weather hadn't changed a bit. It was still incredibly hot outside, and it was making Professor Coldheart grouchier with every minute that passed by. But it was done! It was finally done! The heartless Professor has achieved his goal and created an evil Care Bear! His fur was light blue and as cold as the Arctic Ocean, not warm and fuzzy at all! He had an evil stare in his eyes, enough to paralyze! And his tummy symbol was of a frozen blue heart, as cold as ice, and down the middle of it was a crack that wasn't so nice! This was no Care Bear, this was a Cruel Bear!

“Behold Frostbite! My newest, most glorious creation! I call him the 'I don't care' bear! HAHAHA!”, Coldheart cackled at the thought of his new icy creation. Frostbite also chuckled, “Hehe, so what can he do?” he asked. “This Care Bear knows nothing about caring!” Coldheart replied gleefully, “All he knows is how to bring misery with him wherever he walks! Those little fuzzy-wuzzies won't even suspect a thing! Hehehe!”. “Ooh! They won't know what hit them!” Frostbite replied in excitement.

Professor Coldheart let the icy fiend loose! “Now.. Go to Care-a-lot and trick those fuzzy-wuzzies into letting you join them! And then.. Once you've gained their trust, lead them all here to the castle!” Coldheart ordered, the bear nodded and set off on his way. “Hehehe.. After we've trapped all of the Care Bears, we'll be able to turn summer into winter and freeze the emotions of every child we can find!”. The mad professor laughed as his new assistant wandered off into the distance.

Wish Bear was watching over earth with her telescope, looking for trouble, Grumpy Bear glanced over at Wish Bear and grumbled, “Why are you even bothering to look for trouble anyway? It's too hot for anyone to want to cause problems!” he scoffed. “Well, it's always best to make sure everyone's happy and safe, anything could happen!” Wish Bear replied. “Well, suit yourself! I'm going to lay back and relax! This is the perfect day for a nice long nap!” said Grumpy. “You can say that again!” yawned Bedtime Bear.

Wish Bear was still watching through her telescope, until she caught a glance of someone! “Who is that?” said Wish Bear, Funshine overheard her. “Here! Let me see!” she said, Wish Bear handed her the telescope. What they both saw was an evil blue bear, with a cheeky grin on his face, it looked like he was ready to cause trouble! “Is that.. A Care Bear?!” Funshine gasped, “It must be! But I've never seen them before..” Wish responded. Tenderheart Bear overheard both of them, “A Care Bear you say? Hmm..”, Tenderheart thought for a moment, he then grabbed the telescope and took a look for himself, and he saw the icy creature, seemingly looking around for the Care Bears himself, to no avail.

“I think we should go greet them!” Tenderheart said, “They seem friendly enough! And it's good to meet new people too!”. Funshine agreed, “Yeah! And maybe we can make a new friend!” she said excitedly. Grumpy Bear wasn't so sure.. “Yeah, but what if it's some kind of trap? Like you said Wish Bear.. Anything could happen!”, Wish Bear looked over at Grumpy, “Don't be silly Grumpy! There's no way a Care Bear could be mean!” Wish Bear replied, Grumpy still wasn't so sure, “Alright, if you say so.. But I'm warning ya! Something about this doesn't feel right!”.

The Care Bears gathered together and prepared to approach the newcomer, they hopped into their Cloud Cars and Rainbow Rollers and headed down to where the blue bear was. After parking their vehicles, they hopped out one by one to greet him, and the bear jumped backwards! They must have scared him by accident!

“Who are you?!” the bear yelled, his voice sounded cold and heartless, not a slight sense of compassion to be heard! “Don't be frightened!” Said Tenderheart worryingly, “We're Care Bears just like you!”. “Care Bears?!” yelled the evil bear, he was confused, but suddenly remembered what the Professor had told him. “Ah! Yes.. Care Bears.. I'm one of them too!” he replied. Grumpy Bear started inspecting our icy baddie closely, something felt off to him. “Really now?” Grumpy said suspiciously, “Well, what's your name then? Hm?”. “My name?” The bear said, “It's, uhh..”, he looked at his tummy symbol, and then had an idea, “Frostheart! Yes! Frostheart Bear!”.

“Frostheart Bear?” said Grumpy, “That's a weird name for a Care Bear!”. “Hey! Be nice Grumpy!” said Funshine Bear, Grumpy scoffed. “Well Frostheart.. Would you like to come with us and stay in Care-a-lot?” asked Tenderheart, “Seeing as you're a Care Bear too.”. Frostheart sprang up, “Oh how I'd love to stay! Hehehe, you're all so kind..”. Frostheart Bear smirked as he followed Tenderheart and the others back to the Cloud Cars and Rainbow Rollers.

After arriving in Care-a-lot, the Care Bears were called to the Hall of Hearts to welcome their new friend. “Fellow Care Bears!” announced Tenderheart, “It is with great pleasure that I welcome Frostheart Bear into the Care Bear family!”. Everyone in the hall clapped as Frostheart was called up, Tenderheart held up Frostheart's hand, it was freezing cold. “I'm positive that Frostheart Bear will be a wonderful, helpful, and caring new part of our family, so show Frostheart around Care-a-lot whenever you can and help them get used to their new home!”.

Everyone in the hall cheered and clapped again, “Woohoo!” yelled Birthday Bear excitedly, “This is the perfect time to celebrate! I'm so excited!”. But not everyone was clapping, Grumpy Bear stared at Frostheart from a distance, “I don't like this.. I don't like this one bit!”, Grumpy knew something was up, that gut feeling was getting stronger and stronger with every moment that passed by.

After the celebration, Frostheart walked outside. Bedtime Bear and Tenderheart Bear followed behind him, and the sun was starting to set as Bedtime Bear yawned. “I'm starting to get.. Sleepy..” said Bedtime, “Me too actually..” replied Tenderheart. Suddenly, Bedtime Bear fell onto the floor! He was fast asleep already, Tenderheart looked at Bedtime, and then back towards Frostheart worryingly, “Don't worry about it Frostheart, I'll carry him to bed” said Tenderheart, “Just go find Friend Bear, she'll lead you to where you can sleep!”. Frostheart Bear shook his head, “Actually, I'll take Bedtime Bear to his bedroom! I'm sure I'll find my way, just go get some rest.. You deserve it you know!”. “Wow! Really? Thank you so much! You really are a great friend!” Tenderheart said, he then walked away and left Frostheart on his own with Bedtime Bear.

Frostheart picked him up “Wow.. This guy is heavy..” he murmured, “Now I just need to find a way to get back to the castle.. There's no way I'm walking there!”. Frostheart Bear looked around for an easy solution, until he saw a bunch of parked Cloud Cars. Despite not knowing how to drive one, he immediately thought of taking Bedtime Bear to the castle in one of them. “This'll have to do..” Frostheart said.

The furry fiend put Bedtime in the back seat of a Cloud Car, and then hopped in himself. He attempted to drive away, slowly at first, with a clanging and a banging, but he soon got the hang of controlling the car, and drove off into the distance towards the icy Land Without Feelings.

Frostheart Bear parked the car at the castle entrance. After climbing out, he picked up Bedtime Bear again and glanced up towards the tall, cold castle. Frostheart looked annoyed, “Great.. Now I have to carry this lazy little squirt all the way to the top!”. He grumbled and grunted for what felt like an eternity, carrying the sleepy blue bear throughout the whole castle to try and get to Coldheart.

“Where has my evil Care Bear gone?! He should have come back by now!” The Professor yelled, he was becoming more and more impatient as time went by, as Frostbite was becoming just as doubtful. “D'urr.. He probably just got lost..” Frostbite shrugged. But suddenly, a small light blue figure appeared in the doorway, it was Frostheart.

“There you are, Frostheart! Heh heh heh..” Coldheart said in a sinister tone.. “Where were you?! You sure took your sweet time out there!”, “Sorry sir..” Frostheart Bear replied, “It's not easy carrying a sleeping Care Bear all the way up a castle! You know?!”. Professor Coldheart glanced over towards Bedtime Bear, who was still in Frostheart's arms, “Where are the rest of the bears?!” Coldheart yelled crossly, Frostheart started to worry.. What was going to happen to him now? Frostbite crossed his arms and scoffed at Frostheart, “He probably couldn't even find the rest of them!”.

Frostheart had to think, he was definitely in trouble now.. But suddenly, he thought of a brilliant idea! “W..Well you see Professor.. We can use this bear as bait! And when the other Care Bears realise that someone is missing, they'll come here, and then we can trap all of them!”, Coldheart seemed to like this idea.. “That's good thinking Frostheart!” he replied, “Now.. Let's put this Care Bear in his cage, and wait for the rest of them to come! I'm going to enjoy this.. HAHAHA!”

Bedtime Bear was still fast asleep after he was put into his cell, but sooner or later, he had finally woken up, and was immediately confused by his surroundings.

“Yawn.. Huh? Where am I? What is this funny looking place?..” Bedtime Bear said whilst yawning and rubbing his eyes. Frostbite just happened to be in the same room as Bedtime, and soon saw that the bear was moving again, as clueless as one would be in this situation. “D'urr.. Professor Coldheart!” Frostbite called, “They're awake! They're awake!”. Coldheart himself was soon on the scene, “Is that so?” he replied, “Well.. No problem! He can just stay there in his cell! Haha!”

Bedtime Bear stood there in fear and shock, finally coming to his senses, he realised what was happening, “Coldheart!” he yelled, “Where am I?! Tell me this instant!”. The Professor snickered, “You're trapped in my castle, fuzzy-wuzzy!”, he said cunningly as Bedtime was still visibly frightened. “And my new assistant, Frostheart Bear was the one that brought you here!”, “Frostheart Bear?” asked Bedtime Bear in a confused voice, “Yes! That ice cold fuzzy blue bear that you foolishly welcomed into your family without a second thought!”.

Bedtime Bear suddenly remembered what had happened that night, and started to worry.. “Well.. No matter! My friends will get me out of here!” he said. “I think not.. Fuzzy-wuzzy.” The Professor replied with a cheeky grin on his face, “I have a special surprise waiting just for them! Hahaha!”.

It was now early in the morning, and all of the Care Bears were already wide awake, the birds just started singing, the sun was just about to finish rising, and the Bears seemed to be searching for something, or someone..

“I've looked everywhere, Tenderheart..” Cheer Bear called out, “But Bedtime Bear just seems to have vanished into thin air!”, “And so has Frostheart!” replied Good Luck Bear worryingly. Grumpy crossed his arms, “I bet that Frostheart Bear knows where he is!” he said, “I've had a bad feeling ever since he showed up!”.

Suddenly, an ice-blue bear ran up to the scene, it was Frostheart again. When Grumpy Bear saw Frostheart, he immediately confronted him, he knew exactly what was going on. “Where's Bedtime Bear?! I know you had something to do with his disappearance! Where is he?!”. Frostheart stood there startled as Grumpy glared at him suspiciously. “It.. It wasn't me!” He said frantically, “It was Professor Coldheart! I saw him! He took Bedtime Bear away!”. “What?!” yelled all of the Bears at once, “This is terrible!” cried Cheer Bear, “I can't imagine what that awful man has done to him!” she sobbed. Tenderheart looked angry, “That does it! We have no choice but to go to Coldheart Castle and find Bedtime Bear!”

Grumpy Bear scoffed, “But what if this is some kind of trap?” he grumbled. “Professor Coldheart is terribly crafty! Who knows what he's set up in that castle of his!”. “Grumpy Bear is right!” agreed Good Luck Bear, “Not to mention that he's probably expecting us to show up!”. Tenderheart looked overwhelmed, all of the other bears have a point! But then, he suddenly turned towards his Cloud Car, and then looked back towards the others. “We'll just have to be careful..” Tenderheart Bear said worryingly. “Now, hop into your vehicles! We've got a friend to save!”. The bears then got into their Cloud Cars and Rainbow Racers and headed for the cold, lonely castle.

After the bears had arrived, they had parked their vehicles near the castle walls. “We're here!” Said Tenderheart. The Care Bears immediately started to look around the exterior of the castle, hoping Bedtime Bear would be here. “Th-This place isn't as cheerful as I remember!” Cheer Bear exclaimed whilst shivering in the snow. “It's never been cheerful..” Grumpy Bear said. The Bears kept on searching, but suddenly, Share Bear spotted a Cloud Car that was parked on the other side of the castle! “Hey!” Share called out “I've found something!”. “What is it Share Bear?” Tenderheart said as the other bears gathered around. “Look!” Share pointed, “It's a Cloud Mobile!”. All of the Care Bears gasped! “What is it doing out here?!” wondered Birthday Bear, “I wish I knew the answer!” Wish Bear wished with a confused look on her face.

Frostheart approached the vehicle and examined it, he was worried that the other bears might soon catch on to what had happened, he had to throw them off somehow! “Hmm.. Maybe Bedtime Bear drove off after he was put to sleep?” Frostheart pretended to theorise. “What a champion idea!” Champ Bear responded, “He must have been sleep-driving! So Bedtime Bear is definitely in Coldheart Castle if that's the case!”. “Wait! But-” Grumpy Bear said, but before he could finish his sentence, the other bears rushed inside the castle. “But.. How did Frostheart know that Professor Coldheart took Bedtime Bear?..” he mumbled to himself. Grumpy Bear decided not to question it, and followed the other bears with caution.

The Care Bears split up, some went left, some went right, many went up, and a few went down. Minding the traps, they all hopped, skipped, jumped, and used their tummy symbols to their advantage when things got tough.

Friend Bear and Funshine Bear wandered north towards the top of the castle, where they were stopped by a bunch of stairs. The stairs that lead upwards were covered in ice, so they were slippery because of it! “There's no way we'll be able to climb up there!” Friend Bear said with a hopeless look on her face. Funshine patted Friend on the back to comfort her. “Don't worry about it!” she said gently, “I have an idea!”. Funshine Bear concentrated hard, and then suddenly, a yellow beam of light shunned out of her tummy symbol and onto the ice on the stairs! The ice quickly melted away, making it possible for both bears to now climb up towards the top. “You did it Funshine!” Friend Bear yelled with excitement. “I knew it'd work!” Funshine Bear said, “Now, let's go find Bedtime! He's got to be up here! I can just feel it!”. Funshine and Friend Bear ran up the stairs, hoping deep down that they'd find their best friend.

Both of them soon reached the top of the stairs. On the other side of the room was a giant cage, just like a jail cell, and inside the jail cell was a small furry figure, it was Bedtime Bear! Funshine and Friend spotted Bedtime Bear, “Whoopee!” they both cheered, “We found him! We found him!” yelled Funshine in excitement. All of the other Bears heard Funshine and were soon on the scene, except for Frostheart. “You did?” asked Cheer Bear, out of breath, “I'm so glad!”. Bedtime Bear heard the other bears and was woken up by their celebration. “Yaaawn..”, Bedtime Bear sat up and rubbed his eyes, “Hm?.. Oh! It's the Care Bears!”. Tenderheart nodded, “Yes! We've come to save you!”, “No!!" Bedtime Bear yelled, “It's a trap! Don't come any closer!”. “Trap?” Cheer Bear asked, “I don't see any trap!”.

Suddenly! A large metal cage dropped down from the sky, ambushing the bears! “Aahh!!!” Tenderheart cried, “What's happening!?”. Professor Coldheart and his two assistants walked into the room where the bears were being kept, “Hahaha! Yes! My plan has worked!” Coldheart gloated, “I've won! I've finally won!”. The bears glared at The Professor crossly, “That's what you think, Coldheart!” Share Bear yelled. The Care Bears lined up inside the cage, and started counting down. “Five, four, three, two, one! Care Bear Stare!!!”, a giant beam of light shot out of the Bears and towards Coldheart, but the cage seemed to absorb it! The Professor cackled, “Hahaha! I knew you'd try to use your icky stare on me! So I came prepared, and now, Care-a-lot is doomed!”. Coldheart turned towards Frostheart, “Now, Frostheart..” he said, “Destroy the Fuzzy-wuzzies with your Care Bear Glare!”. Frostheart approached the trapped bears without any hesitation.

Tenderheart looked very sad.. “Frostheart.. What are you doing?..” he said, “I thought we were your friends!”. Frostheart Bear laughed at the thought, “Friends!? We were never friends!” he yelled, “Everything was just an act, so I could gain easy access to your disgusting "Care-a-lot", and whaddaya know? It worked! All because you let your caring get the better of you! You didn't even bother to think twice!”. All of the Care Bears stood there in shock, “I don't believe it..” Cheer Bear said “So everything was just a trick?”, “Hahaha! Yes!” Frostheart replied. “But.. What about the party and the balloons?” Birthday Bear frowned, “We did all of that for you! Didn't it make you feel warm and welcomed? Coldheart would never treat you that way!”. Frostheart stopped for a moment, “That doesn't matter to me..” he mumbled.

“Ugh! What are you waiting for?!” Coldheart yelled, “Enough chit chatting! Destroy them Frostheart!”. Frostheart positioned himself in front of the cage and then started counting down. All of the Care Bears braced themselves for impact. “Five, four, three, two, one! Care Bear Glare!!!”. A large icy blue beam shot out of Frostheart's Tummy Symbol and struck the Bears, but.. Nothing seemed to happen!

“What!?”. Professor Coldheart looked confused and angry, “What happened Frostheart? What did you do!?”, “I don't know!” Frostheart replied worryingly, “Try again!” Ordered the Professor. Frostheart took a stance and unleashed another big blue beam at the Bears, but it had no effect. The Care Bears stopped cowering and stood up, confused. “Huh? What happened?” asked Cheer Bear, “I thought we were going to be turned into icicles! What's going on?” Funshine asked, confused and cold.

Tenderheart Bear stood up, “I know what's happened.” He turned to face Frostheart and Coldheart, “Frostheart's Glare didn't work because of how much we care!” Tenderheart exclaimed. “Huh!?” Coldheart looked mad, “What do you mean!?”. “And Frostheart knows this..” Tenderheart continued, “He knows how much we care, and he knows that we care about him, so the blast had no effect.”. The Care Bears stood there, thinking about what Tenderheart had just said. “You're absolutely right, Tenderheart!” said Friend Bear, “There's no denying it, Frostheart knows that we care about him, so it weakened his Glare!”.

Frostheart Bear looked angry, confused, and scared. “NO, NO, NO, NO!!!” he yelled whilst stamping his feet. “I don't care about you! I don't care about anyone! I can't care! And I'll never be able to care!”. Tenderheart Bear reached his hand out towards Frostheart, “Anyone can care if they really try.” he said softly, “You could come home with us. We'll welcome you into our Care Bear family, and then we'll teach you how to care! Wouldn't that be great?”. Frostheart got more angry, “I don't want to care!” he yelled.

“Hahaha! That's what I'm talking about!” Coldheart laughed gleefully, “It's pointless! He wasn't made to care! He was made to destroy all things caring, and freeze the emotions of those who still have them!”. The Professor pointed at the Care Bears, “Now.. Unleash a powerful beam of ice, and destroy the Fuzzy Wuzzies once and for all!”. Frostheart Bear took one last tall stance, and then started charging up a very powerful Glare!

“Oh no!” Love-a-lot cried, “What do we do?!”. Funshine raised her hand, “Ooh! I have an idea!” she said, “Tenderheart, can you make a big heart with your Tummy Symbol?”, “Sure thing!” he replied. Tenderheart Bear rubbed his Tummy Symbol and out flew a big beautiful red heart, he then gave it to Funshine, and Funshine used her own Tummy Symbol to warm up the heart. The heart was so full of springy love and caring, that it started to melt the metal cage! The Care Bears quickly escaped, and ran in all directions.

“Nooo!!” Coldheart cried, “They're getting away! Quick! Hurry up!”, Frostheart was still charging up his Glare, “I'm.. Trying!” he yelled. Wish Bear ran over towards Bedtime Bear and used her wishing powers to get him out of the cage. “Yawn.. Hm? Oh, thank you Wish Bear!”, “You're welcome!” Wish replied.

The Care Bears all came back together, and then they stood in front of Frostheart. “Hey! What are you doing!?” Coldheart yelled, “We're gonna give you the Care Bear Stare!” Tenderheart replied. “Care Bears, Countdown! Five! Four! Three! Two! One! Care Bear Stare!”. A giant colourful warm rainbow shot out of the Bears' Tummy Symbols and towards the icy villains. “Frostheart! Now! Fire your Glare!” The Professor ordered. Frostheart finally released his charged ice beam, and a massive war between Stare and Glare commenced! Both sides pushed as hard as they could, they both kept firing, and straining, until finally, the Care Bear Stare hit Frostheart and Coldheart!

“GAHH!!!” Coldheart wailed, “It feels so warm and icky! It hurts!”. The Professor yelled in pain as the Stare started to weaken, and the Bears fell onto the ground from exhaustion. “We did it!” Cheer Bear cheered, “We sure did!” Funshine responded, “That Coldheart is no match for the Care Bear Stare!”. Tenderheart got up on his feet, “Wait!” He said, “What's happened to Frostheart?!”.

“AGHHH!!!” Frostheart Bear screamed, “I'M MELTING! I'M MELTING! THIS CAN'T BE!!!”. Frostheart was slowly dripping into a puddle! Onto the cold hard castle floor, he was nothing but a pool of cold, icy frozen water.

“No! My evil Care Bear!” Coldheart cried. “Look at what you've done! Frostbite! Attack the Bears!”. The Care Bears stood up straight once more, “Not a chance!” said Funshine, “Care Bear, Stare!”. All of the Bears did one last Care Bear Stare to finally drive off Coldheart and Frostbite, “Ohhh! Professor! I feel.. Funny!” Frostbite yelped in a dizzy state. “AGHH! Not again! I was sure that I had won this time!” Coldheart shouted “This will not be the last of me, I'll get you Fuzzy-wuzzies for this!”. The Stare drove them down into the deep depths of the castle, where they then crashed into each other.

Everything went quiet, and the only sound that could be heard was the castle walls dripping with freezing cold water. The Care Bears stood there and looked down at the puddle where Frostheart once was.. “Poor Frostheart..” Cheer Bear said sadly. “I don't think he really was a bad guy!” Birthday Bear blurted out. Grumpy glared at Birthday Bear, “He was made by the Professor to be his evil assistant! Of course he was a bad guy!”. Tenderheart looked towards Grumpy, “But everyone has the capability to care, he just didn't know that yet.”.

Grumpy Bear thought about it for a moment, “And! He did look like he thought about us when he was going to fire at us with that beam!” Share exclaimed. Grumpy decided not to say anything. The Care Bears gradually made their way out of the castle and into their Cloud Cars back to Care-a-Lot.

“We're so glad you're okay!” Said Wish Bear. Bedtime Bear yawned, “Me too..”, but Bedtime Bear fell to the floor and was already fast asleep. “It's been a long day” Funshine said, “Bedtime Bear has the right idea, we should really get some rest.”. All of the Care Bears said their goodnights and made their way back to their little houses and quickly hopped into bed. Funshine Bear was making sure that everyone was in the right place, but Tenderheart was still standing outside near the edge of the clouds.

“What's wrong?” asked Funshine, Tenderheart Bear looked very upset, “It's.. Frostheart, I feel terrible about what has happened..” he said sadly. “Oh, I see..”, Funshine comforted Tenderheart. “I feel like it's my fault that Frostheart melted, I was so focused on rescuing Bedtime Bear and defeating Coldheart that I didn't think about what would happen to him, it was as if, I didn't care..”.

Funshine stood up, “You did care, you went all the way to Coldheart Castle to rescue Bedtime Bear, and you gave Frostheart the chance to be a good guy. If you didn't care, would you have done all of that?”. Tenderheart Bear stopped to think about it, “And.”, Funshine continued, “If it's true what you said, that deep down, you saw that glimmer of love, hope, and care inside of Frostheart, then it's what he would have wanted.”. Tenderheart Bear wiped his eyes, “Thank you.” he said. Funshine Bear smiled, “No problem!” she replied. “Now let's get some sleep, we've got a lot of caring missions to complete tomorrow.”. They both waved goodbye to each other and went to bed, as the sun finished setting over the horizon.

…Wow. You know, going back to this story, this was way more deep and depressing than it had any right to be-

Even after all this time I still think it holds up. I’ve always wanted to write books and make cartoons that are mature in some way, but children of course can still enjoy them. I think this story might be an almost perfect example of that, especially when it’s with a property like Care Bears, which is a squeaky clean property that sometimes has its really dark moments.
