Bill's and Bob's concept back in 1928 was ground breaking and provided a much needed option for the increasing crime rate in America due to alcoholism and associated negative activity. However, the results were and have always been less than positive. For many years, all research around AA was compiled by AA/NA themselves and in some cases "wasn't available" to external organisations/people. Other research conducted showed people increased their use as a result of AA/NA with people frightened into abstinence.
