Dating Bucky Barnes Would Include...

A/N: I hope you enjoy! I’m also going to start writing for Loki and Peter (once the show + no way home trailer roll out soon). Requests are always welcome! Also, I’m gonna put out a masterlist soon.

Definitely a slow burn

Bucky has a hard time letting people in, so it’ll take months, if not a year, before you guys actually start dating

But let me tell you

He will have been crushing on you major that ENTIRE time

Sneaking glances as you when he thinks you’re not looking

But you definitely are

Let’s be honest, he’s a flirt

“You look gorgeous today, doll”

And his voice is deep and rich which drives you crazy

But when you hit back

“You look good yourself, handsome”

This man goes red within seconds

And he’ll avoid your eyes, scratching the back of his neck like the dumbass he is

But then, later that day, he’ll have a really bad nightmare

He’s convinced he’s not good for you

That he’s an 100 year old freak

You’re too good for him

There’s no way you could ever love him the way that he loves you

And of course that isn’t true, but Bucky gets in his head

So when he suddenly gets cold towards you, you don’t get mad, you try to show him how much you care

And that’s how the ship sails

You find him sitting at the kitchen counter in the compound, sipping black coffee with a distant look in his eyes

He ignores you as you pour yourself some water and sit down in front of him

“Buck, I know you punish yourself. You think you deserve to be alone, but there are people who care about you. I care about you. I…look, I love you, okay?”

His shoulders tense but his head snaps up towards you

“What?”

You don’t think he’s ever sounded more vulnerable than in that moment

His voice is soft and cracks

“I love you,” you say smiling

And suddenly it’s like fucking sun came beaming down on Bucky because he’s smiling

The corners of his lips basically reach his ears

His demons would always be there, but in that moment, they didn’t have the same hold on him they usually did

The constant weight on his chest felt exponentially lighter

He never thought you could love someone like him

But you did

You do

And that changes everything

Let me tell you, this man will never give you a reason to doubt your choice to love him

He’s a cuddler

He loves to just wrap his arms around you and hold you to his chest when you’re laying down

Maybe press some kisses to your forehead while you sleep

He never falls asleep before you because he has to see you safe and at peace before he can put his guard down

He’s definitely the little spoon sometimes, especially after a nightmare

He might be the super soldier assassin, but he only feels safe when he’s with you

Doll, obviously

Or dollface

But I feel like he also dabbles in some other names

Angel

Darling 🥺

When he’s in a domestic mood, he definitely uses honey

“Honey, I’m home!”

He uses pet names A LOT

I can picture you guys slow dancing to some 40s music in your shared apartment and he just says “I love you more than anything, darling”

He makes you melt completely

He loves to tell you about the 40s- his family, the Howling Commandos, skinny Steve

Maybe bring out some photo albums or old journals of his

He’s lived so many lives

And you love hearing about all of them

Sometimes he’ll tell you about his life as the Winter Soldier when he gets really low

You hold him as the horrors spill from his mouth

You press kisses on his forehead and the bruises blossoming under his tired eyes

“You’re not him anymore, bubs”

“Thank you for loving me”

“I’ll always love you”
