I love both Marinette and Adrien | Fuck Lila | Adrienette and Alnino, but I’m also open to Alyanette |I’m also low-key afraid of this fandom. | Mostly Incorrect Quotes and Rants
my hot take of the day is that marinette is well-loved in the fandom (especially here and on twitter), but nobody really likes marinette, if that makes sense. whether because of second-hand embarrassment or inabiltiy to relate, i constantly see certain characteristics of her pegged as 'bad writing' or 'humiliation', because somehow the writers of ml have an interest in 'embarrassing' their protagonist and it has nothing to do with the absurd amount of self-projection going on in this fandom, no way, sir. marinette being obsessive and weird, overthinking everything to the point of getting herself in messes all the time, has been the most consistent thing about her character, and to be frank, that's what differentiates her from other female protagonists in western cartoons, because otherwise she's just the typical nice, strong, smart and sweet hero. maybe i'm defensive because that's the part i like the most about her and i'm as tired from the 'marinette is a stalker' comments as from the logical absurdity 'marinette is an amazing character, if only those idiot writers let her be incredible instead of [removing key characterization that makes marinette who she is], but people should evaluate if they love marinette, or some idea of marinette they have built up in their heads.
It’s not exactly legal, but there’s a playlist on YouTube with all the season 4 episodes that someone created for people who may not have access to the newer episodes.
so where are people??? watching miraculous ladybug??? i swear maybe im just dumb but im digging everywhere and i can’t find any of season 4???????
Okay, but I don’t know if anyone else noticed, but when Adrien says he never had childhood dreams, he said he never had them because he was always trying to be what his parents wanted. He never singled out his father, and his flashback included both Gabriel and Emilie.
This makes me more curious as to the kind of parent Emilie was, because I feel like there are a lot of assumptions that she was a good parent, at least in comparison to Gabriel… but I feel like this episode hints at otherwise… because it indicates that Emilie is at least partially responsible to Adrien’s trauma.
I have issues with people still claiming that Marinette has shown “no character development because she’s still drooling over Adrien” and it’s starting to get REALLY annoying, and the more I think about the particular reasons as to why it upsets me, the more I realize it’s because I don’t think people who say this are really paying attention to her character.
Because when people do this, they are really diluting her character to nothing more than “drooling over a boy,” and that’s where it gets really frustrating. I mean, sure, her crush on Adrien is a big part of her character, but it’s not her entire character, and when you look beyond that crush, you will see that Marinette has actually developed alot as a character.
Marinette had extreme anxiety over everything when the series began, and she’s slowly worked on it and gotten over it. Even in this season, we’ve really been able to see the impact that leading a double life has had on her.
There has been a lot more, but essentially, I guess why I’m frustrated with these arguments is that they are still tying Marinette’s development to a man, and they are determining her development as a character by;
How well her relationship with a male character is developing.
What male character she is in a relationship with.
It’s frustrating that people are limiting her to that! She is a character outside of her relationship with Adrien, Luka and anyone else! Do I think they need to show Marinette working on her crush with Adrien? Yes! Do I think that them not developing her in that specific area is proof that she is a horribly written character overall? No!
