Sometimes I just think about the fact the coven remained utterly powerful, not a thing changed in their abilities and strengths, while Lilith was Queen of Hell. But within a day of Sabrina being Queen it all goes to shit; we have Lucifer cursing them and messing with their heads, he starts draining their powers, they end up practically mortal, utterly vulnerable (until Zelda calls on Hecate).
Like, everything was just fine with Lilith in charge, And I'm saying this as someone who enjoys Sabrina's character, and even has her as a muse (on my multi), but like...everything started going to shit once a sixteen year old with lack of experience and skill, as well as a mind on a dozen other teen-related thing, was on the throne.
I mean Lilith would never have left a gap in a circle of salt around Lucifer. She literally took his tongue to make sure he couldn't do anything.
Just saying; Lilith ran Baxter High and Hell excellently. Her leadership skills don't get appreciated by the characters enough.

Lilith had to resist the urge to roll her eyes, to force herself to simply appear attentive and...non-judgemental, as she heard for the thousandth time the argument the supposedly 'morally sound' so often made against Hell, not only forgetting the need for a balance, but the habits of the righteous to commit much greater crimes.
"While everything that humans, mortals, do has brought only joy and kindness and protection to the world?" She challenged gently. "I imagine that there are certain people, certain areas of the world, that might say the same of humans that you say about demons; that all they do is destroy. Abuse. Kill. After all, there are war zones, aren't there? Vast swathes of poverty, of suffering, even the realm itself is attacked; forests and rivers and oceans and soils decimated by humans, making this world almost unliveable for anyone who isn't of an infernal nature. And we didn't do this," she concluded pointedly. "They did."
It never ceased to amaze Lilith, even after thousands of years, that no matter what humans did, the natural destruction and corruption the mortals engaged in, they still pinned all the blame entirely on Hell and all its residents; pointing the finger at creatures that had done far more to maintain the balance than they ever had.
"Besides," she added, "demons didn't burn entire cities, turn women to salt for missing their homes, or demand fathers sacrifice their sons as proof of love and devotion, or destroy an entire civilisation because it simply...wasn't to our liking. That," she said pointedly, "was the other side. The angelic celestials." And yet still they were lauded by the humans, celebrated, worshipped, every crime they'd ever committed either excused or ignored or...simply written out of history.
Looking at Tyler pointedly, Lilith decided to speak frankly, though she made sure to keep a mentor-like tone to both her words and her demeanour.
"If you continue to see everything in black-and-white, ignoring the nuances and...complicated details, you're never going to progress and you're also never going to feel confident in your own power, which means you risk it one day destroying you entirely from within."
Tumblr media
“I should get my inner voice a megaphone.” She joked with an awkward little smile, doubtful that she would ever be able to tune out her emotions (as well as other people’s voices) for long enough to hear anything else. “Maybe then I’d hear it over all the other stuff.”
There was an immediate reaction to that bit of maternal energy, some of the tension she was holding beginning to ease as she let out a little sigh of her own. Funny how such a small gesture could help to calm her. There was something in her subconscious, something that responded to it and which made that nagging guilt begin to fade.
A demon is… simply a life.
It was the same argument she’d made to humans, especially hunters, time and time again. That most creatures, human or otherwise, were just living their lives. Not doing anything wrong, not trying to hurt anyone, just existing the same as anyone else. Perhaps it was hypocritical of her, but she couldn’t quite accept the possibility that the same argument could be applied to demons, that maybe they were fundamentally the same in that regard. Just lives. Some good, some bad, some neither. As complex and varied as those she so aggressively wanted to defend.
“It’s not hunters that told me— look, I get that Hell is a thing that has a purpose. I don’t like it, but I get it. But destruction is the only thing I’ve seen from demons. And I mean seen it for myself, not just been told about it second hand. I’ve seen the bodies, I’ve seen what possessed people go through, I’ve been possessed, and none of what I’ve seen has been good.”
“Why would anyone want to make somethin’ so powerful if they know the consequences are it hurting people?” Oh dear, that last part was a little more telling than she’d meant it to be. Perhaps there was more to her black and white view of demons than just personal experience. Perhaps this was as much about how she viewed herself and her own creation as it was about her demonic encounters…
Projection, thy name is Tyler.

Lilith mulled over the observation silently, considering just how often she passed a compliment or even a vaguely approving comment, and found herself coming up empty. There were instances, of course, when she'd admired particular things, particular people, but saying them aloud not only felt at odds with herself...it also felt vulnerable.
"Well, I've always felt that actions speak much louder than words." Words could too easily be lies, clever little compliments and approvals hiding secret intents and betrayals. Actions, behaviour, were a little harder to fake, especially in the more intimate dynamics.
Smirking a little at Zelda's answer, Lilith made no effort to move or to correct her hair. "Well," she began, holding her breath on the word with deliberate focus. "It seems that you're just going to have to....learn to control yourself." She flashed her another smile, a daring look in her eyes, before she turned back to the counter.
"And," she continued, "speaking of self-control, your sister felt the need to leave these...little instructions to read." She held up a paper that was titled 'Rules'. Number one stated 'Don't kill any customers. Even if they're men who insult you'. "I'm not entirely sure who she felt needed this particular instruction most" She held up the envelope with an air of amusement. "But the paper, and all its rules, was, apparently, addressed to both of us."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She felt a bit bad for her sarcastic retort now. Lilith did have a point, she supposed; it could be considered flattering that the first witch preferred her company to another's enough to suffer this little adventure together. But to be perfectly honest she had assumed she was chosen because she was Hilda's sister and that was all. "I forgot you're not in the habit of giving compliments aloud," she decided to tease; it usually could get her out of trouble.
Zelda rolled her eyes but hummed in agreement. Greendale certainly had its own code and set of rules. The downside to living in a small town meant things were frequently left to deteriorate.
Opening her mouth, her retort died before it reached fruition, and Zelda found herself just that: distracted; distracted by the wayward thoughts of wrangling that mane of hair herself, no doubt to the sound of huffing from the source. Amusing as all of that may be, she needed to stop the train of thought before it spiraled elsewhere where she couldn't catch it. She settled on a simple, and true, answer. "Yes, I would." She gave a smile of her own.

Whenever I watch Part 3 and Nick is going through his Dark-Lord-Personality-Syndrome, with the foot becoming cloven and his behaviour altering as his emotions become twisted into something toxic, I can't help but think of the parallel and how it's a deliberate throw back to what we saw of Lilith and Lucifer in the beginning, how he changed and, in Lilith's own words, became this 'thing of darkness'.
And I just can't but think of a very, very, very young Lilith being in that position and filled with worry and concern and trying to reassure him and trying to help him, and just like Sabrina to Nick, telling Lucifer that no, there's nothing bad in him, that this is in his head, that he can fight it.
Only he can't and he doesn't.
I just...Lucifer was kind and gentle in the beginning. Kindness and gentleness is what Lilith falls in love with (and it's what she falls in love with when she meets Adam Marsters so clearly that's what she finds attractive, my glorious, complicated Queen of Hell) and she lost that. When Lucifer became dark and twisted (whether as a result of his own bitterness and anger at the False God becoming a physical change in him, or it's a curse from the False God himself, that's up to personal interpretation) he stopped being the person he was originally, which means even though he was alive and well, the person Lilith fell in love with died. She lost her love, and had to continued to serve at the side of the thing that was left in his place.
It's kinda like Buffy with Angel/Angelus, even though Angelus wears his face and has his memories and even though part of him is still Angel, it's not enough; he's not the man (well, vampire) she loved. The only difference there is Buffy is wicked sad when she stabs him with a sword, whereas Lilith fucking loves every minute (to be fair Lilith had had several thousand years of the bullshit so the love had died a lot more by that point).
Just tagging you @stellamane because it's the Lucifer related feels.

"And every being has the capacity for bad," Lilith countered pointedly. Too often in the focus on the idea that goodness could be found in most places, that supposed 'redemption' was available to anyone who searched for it, sight was lost of the reality that anyone was capable of the bad too. And that included the 'all knowing' Elders. Lilith had lived for thousands of years; she had seen where hypocrisy usually led.
"And while you might look beyond labels, I'm not entirely sure they do," she gestured with an eye roll in the direction the Elders had departed. "Fighting the status quo is exactly what got me my reputation," she added, a smirk of a smile crossing her lips, though there was something sadder that flickered, however briefly, in her eyes. Before she was the Mother of Demons, before even she became the first witch, she'd simply being a woman asking questions and...demanding a balance; it had no more been encouraged then than it was now.
Surprised by Leo's offer of his hand, Lilith blinked at it a moment, blue eyes wide, as if detecting a trap. Seeming to find nothing, she reached out, taking his hand in her own. "Thank you," she managed to say, her tone genuine, before letting go, feeling something odd she wasn't quite ready to put a name to.
Tumblr media
Leo met Lilith's gaze with a mix of understanding and empathy. He knew all too well the challenges of navigating the complex dynamics of the magical world, especially when dealing with beings as powerful and entrenched in tradition as the Elders.
"I understand your scepticism," he replied. "But I've always believed in looking beyond labels and preconceptions. No matter their origins or affiliations, every being has the capacity for good. It's just a matter of finding common ground and understanding."
He paused momentarily. "And I believe that goes for you as well. Despite your reputation, I see someone willing to fight for what they believe in and not afraid to challenge the status quo. That's a quality I can respect."
His words seemed to carry a warmth that was genuine - a testament to his unwavering belief in the potential for redemption and growth, even in the most unlikely of individuals. He reached out a hand, offering it to Lilith in a gesture of solidarity. "No matter what the Elders decide, know that you're not alone in this. We'll find a way forward together."

"Fairy?" Lilith repeated in a half-question, mild surprise and interest crossing her features as she looked at the woman. Fairies weren't exactly common in Greendale-- there was, she was aware, a group of hobgoblins making their home in the woods, but they rarely if ever ventured into the town-- and it had been centuries upon centuries since Lilith had come across one herself. Witches, after all, weren't the only creatures forced into the shadows by prejudiced and bloodthirsty mortals.
"Ah," Lilith said simply, nodding in understanding as everything began to so quickly fall into place. She had seen how the Spellmans so readily stood by one another, ready to sacrifice anything to protect their loved ones, sometimes putting themselves directly at risk with what were, essentially, idiot decisions. Moving around was, by comparison, relatively low key.
"Well, this is a town where you might more easily blend. It's also where you might be more easily recognised." A paradox admittedly. "Greendale is a nexus, a cursed place. There's more than just witches here; so while you wont stand out, you will be noticed...by those who know what to look for."
Already having decided to give her the job, out of curiosity and interest to see how things might play out more than anything, Lilith decided other things needed to be discussed before she confirmed the appointment.
"Now, what, precisely, are the 'Burned Ones'?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Farah gave the slightest dip of her head to acknowledge that the other woman had surmised correctly. Even if it was in the general proximity. "Fairy," she clarified, feeling the need to do so after Ms. Wardwell had revealed herself in turn.
Hazel eyes followed the brunette as she ceased her circling and took a seat again. She pressed her lips together slightly at the probing for more information. Farah still didn't like the idea of full disclosure, but figured at this point, she had no choice.
"There are creatures in my world known as the Burned Ones," she finally said, her voice level. "They're deadly, hard to kill, and after my daughter." The reason for their pursuit was not something she was about to divulge. "So I brought her to your world to raise. For the past sixteen years, we've been moving from town to town to avoid detection. Greenville is our latest stop and where I hope to see Bloom finish out her primary education. She'll be starting at Baxter in a few days and I want to be here to keep an eye on her, as I have at her other schools."

There was silence for a moment as Lilith studied him, quietly deciding whether to answer his question. Pressing her lips together, she cocked her head a little, musing on her conclusions before finally speaking.
"Well, for one, I didn't exactly imagine that you'd care about the name of your mother, who she really is." A child of Lucifer, created from a desire for destruction and raised with the awareness that he was intended for...infernal greatness, was not one she imagined to care about anyone but himself, and especially not for women.
"You're also less...performative than I'd expected, less flamboyant," she admitted. "I actually imagined you to have a lack of style entirely." It would certainly make him more similar to Lucifer's inner circle. "And to be unlikeable." And her plan, originally, had he'd been a threat to her own plans, was to...remove him from the equation.
"Tell me," she invited, crossing her legs as she let herself relax a little further in her seat, even as her blue eyes stayed fixed on her technical grandson. "what's your true opinion about your Father's intentions for you, his...ambitious plans?"
Tumblr media
Oh, there's no doubt about it that Damien can be an arrogant and demanding little prick from time to time. He's been catered to. There's an expectation for given words to be followed explicitly. But he remembers his father -- his adoptive father -- and how charismatic he could be. To play the game of politics, one needed that smoothness.
To be a breath away from the presidency, he'd need to kiss babies and allow the illusion of a good "Christian" man that would bring the world into a more harmonious era. It was all an act. He knew how to play pretend, but there were moments ( few and far between ) where the real Damien could exist. His boyish charms, his childlike nature from time to time, was real. There was always something about making older women, the motherly types, smile that Damien truly enjoyed.
"And what did you imagine me to be like?"

Everyone worried about their dreams, what outsiders might think if they wandered through their subconscious interpretation of the world and all the thoughts and feeling attached to it. In Lilith's opinion, they were all invariably the same, filled with insecurities and doubts and no small amount of sexual repression. If anyone was concerned that theirs might be worse, somehow more embarrassing than anyone else's, they needn't waste their time worrying.
"I never saw yours," she admitted. "I found Sabrina's mind before I had to. But dream walking from across town through a remarkably secure boundary spell meant there were some...directional mistakes," she added, thinking back on what she had managed to walk through. "Your nephew harbours a lot of self-hatred, while Sabrina has a deep-rooted fear that one day her mortal friends will turn on her" Even in the hearts of modern witches, the memory of the global witch hunts still ran deep. "Hilda was..." Lilith paused, frowning over her glimpse of Principal Hawthorne. "confusing."
Though Zelda was only raising her glass to make a point, it refilled itself as if the room were answering a silent command. A trick of Lucifer's which Lilith hadn't been inclined to deactivate.
"A little potion to induce your own sleep, and a focus on what you're looking for. It's all too easy to become lost, absorbed, in the...dream's illusions, especially in a mind as old as his, but you can't open your mind to it." An idea occurred to her. "How good are your warding spells? The ones on the mind?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hearing Sabrina's name, her attention came into sharper focus. Her head tilted and eyes narrowed as she could only recall one instance that Lilith could possibly be referring to. Did that mean Lilith had been behind the Batibat's appearance? Or had Sabrina merely gone to her for help? But that wouldn't have been possible, she thought and wondered just how many hurdles had Lilith been the source. However the more pressing question would be did she dare confront her new queen? Perhaps not when she needed her aid. Yet she was curious. "I'm almost afraid to ask what you saw." As if the witch wasn't seeing her at a low already.
"Well I certainly don't have a clear mind now, she remarked, raising the glass in her hand. Zelda took a moment, took a breath. She had to prepare her mind for this. She had do succeed to get back to her family, to those relying on her. "Besides a tad more sober, what else is required?"

❛ everything looks so beautiful from up here. ❜ - sent by @nosestealer
Lilith had to imagine that Eleusine hadn't seen very much in her life if she thought any view of Greendale was considered beautiful. Though she supposed, if she had to choose, a window from the highest room at the Academy, looking out on the Greendale woods and hills, was the most preferable. Even if she could still see glimpses of the mortals who trundled down into the mines, unaware of just how close to Hell they wandered.
"The hills, and the woods, used to belong to the coven in this town. Centuries ago," Lilith told her. "But Witch Hunters, a family of them, drove them out. Killing them, starving them. And then they took all that land for themselves."

Lilith simply nodded, quietly encouraging Ava without offering too much; support could all too easily tip over into pressure, and Lilith wanted Ava to embrace her power, not turn and run from it.
"Why don't we cross that infernal bridge when we come to it?" Lilith suggested with a small smile, unwilling to say either way whether the flames of Hell would be something Ava would one day wield. There was a reason so few witches across time had achieved it. But if the idea alone were to be a...motivation for Ava's development...well, she wasn't exactly going to discourage it. "But first..." She smiled, gesturing for the girl to begin her attempt.
For a moment, it looked as though it might fail, that there was further to go before even the first stages of development could begin...but then something changed. Lilith felt it in the air, in the energy that buzzed quietly around Ava...and then it ignited.
Lilith's smile widened, red lips stretched into an expression of almost devilish delight as she bit back a laugh, her blue eyes sparkling with interest.
"Well," she observed, still smiling. "That's more like it."

Ava looked at her arm, at the red flickering flames licking her skin. They didn't burn her, instead spreading a comfortable warmth inside her body. "Flames have always appeared to protect me," she mused aloud, "whenever I'm scared, or angry..."
She met Lilith's gaze. "Do you think I could summon hellfire one day?" The thought alone seemed to make her eyes glimmer with excitement. She didn't know if she had it in her, that rage she was talking about. But she wanted to find it. "I think... I think I'd like to change the world."
Tumblr media
"Tap into it..." she repeated slowly, drifting back to the dancing fire on her skin. She had experienced plenty of injustice in her life. All her years spent in the lab... Being punished, being abused and used in the name of "science"... The bodies of all her friends, covered in blood... Before she could even realize it, her chest was rising up and down, her breathing sharper, the flames growing, engulfing her chest, her legs... And finally, her entire body was ablaze.

@midncghtrcin sent: ❛ how long has it been since you've slept? ❜ Maze worried about her mom more likely then you think
Lilith froze, eyes flickering over Mazikeen in an almost startled confusion, quickly processing a question she couldn't remember ever actually being asked in the entirety of her existence.
"Am I supposed to...measure that?" She asked, eyebrows raised in genuine query, before finally considering the answer. "I suppose it's been..." She gave a small shrug as she calculated the dates quickly in her head. "A week, maybe two." Realising that perhaps this wasn't the answer her daughter had expected or wanted, she waved her hand over the issue, a dismissive expression on her face. "But lack of sleep doesn't really have the same effect on us as it does on mortals." She paused in momentary admission. "Mostly."
