I can’t believe people are using the attack at Bondi Junction to spread antisemitism and Islamophobia.

People were being Islamophobic before a name was even realised and when for some stupid reasons a false persons name was realised then antisemitism came out.

Just wanted to talk about the Bondi Junction attack in Sydney that happened Saturday and reach out to everyone who works in retail. I work in a Westfield, I was working the day it happened and even though I was on the other side of the city (thankfully) I was terrified. Sure, we all continued to work as if it was business as usual but it reminded me of something our store manager told us. There's a rise in these incidents and it's no longer a 'if this happens' but a 'when' and we need to be prepared. A place like a shopping mall should not inspire fear but it does for me, and probably for anyone who works retail in a mall. Retail workers of bondi junction, regular shoppers of bondi junction, non regular shoppers who just went to get that one thing they needed, tourists who just wanted to experience Australia, I am so so sorry that happened to you. It could've happened at any Westfield and it happened to you and I am so sorry. Please let something be done about this rise in violence.

Iran has launched missiles at Israel in retaliation against Israel’s bombing of their embassy. Let me be clear, first and foremost, that I do not think Israel left them many other options. I believe Israel did this to encourage the US to send them more money. I understand why this has happened.

That being said, we cannot now turn towards praise of the Iranian government. First and foremost, it is still the same government that allows “morality police” to kill women for what they wear. It is not a government that acts in the interests of the freedom of their people.

We also cannot forget that in war it always the rich who make the decisions, and the poor who suffer the consequences. As the threat of regional and perhaps even global warfare grows closer, we must remember that war is an evil that does not kill indiscriminately. We cannot get caught up in the notion of Israel reaping what it has sown. We must remember that those truly in power in Israel will not suffer- only the poor, the marginalized, the powerless. We cannot, even for a second, allow ourselves to imagine allies in those that would lead us towards this.
