Bobby and Eddie mirroring each other with opposite arms crossed.
BOBBY AND EDDIE ARE MIRRORS OF EACH OTHER. I've said it before and I'll say it again.
Bobby before the 118 is what Eddie could have become if he hadn't found his place with their team and their family. Lost, alone, drowning his pain with whatever vice made his head quiet for a few hours.
But Eddie did have the 118 because of Bobby. Eddie had someone see that he needed help with childcare and get him that support without making Eddie feel like a bad parent. Eddie had someone who understood what it was like to lose a spouse. Eddie had people there to help him back up when he stumbled.
Bobby and Eddie are such a beautiful mirror to each other and these pictures have grabbed me by my throat because they even look like a mirror of each other in them.
He doesn’t like Josh all that much, moreso tolerates him because they work together and he’s kind of in their outer circle. He felt empathy for him because it didn’t work with the guy he liked, but that doesn’t mean he wants to kiss him.
Except right now, standing under the glowing street light with barely more than a few inches between them, he… kind of does?
Also known as the Jeddie hate sex fic
Don’t ask Eddie why he and Josh are walking together out to the parking lot after work, because he’s got no idea. Usually they avoid each other when they happen to be arriving or leaving at the same time, barely sparing a terse nod in hello followed by silence in the elevator ride to or from the main floor.
But Josh has been kind of down recently, and maybe Eddie feels a little bad for the guy. The electrician that had sparked his interest had apparently ghosted him, and he’s been pouting around at work all day. It’s a little sad, honestly. Plus, Eddie sort of very recently realized he’s gay and Josh is kind of the only openly gay man he knows. It’s like despite the animosity between the two that underlies their every interaction, Eddie feels a natural draw to him.
All that being said, Eddie is walking with him toward the parking lot at the end of the day and he finds himself wanting to say something.
“How old were you when you realized you were gay?” That’s not what he wanted to say.
Listen I like every (in)sane bisexual will automatically diagnose a character as bi too but I take such a firm stance that Eddie Diaz is GAY not bi like flat out gay because the references are THERE IN CANON like the comp-het language, the panic attacks, the therapy that can explain him working through it suddenly on screen, the explanation of a catholic and traditional household/ father
ITS THERE AND ITS GAY AND IT SPELLS OUT NOT ATTRACTED TO WOMEN IN THE LEAST
Now listen would I be satisfied if they just confirm him queer? Of course no doubt about it
But would it be a complete missed opportunity to actually represent a character that complex?
Who is what is automatically considered masculine and who is a father and an ex soldier and firefighter and who grew up in a catholic household with a traditional father and who got married too young because he got a girl pregnant and that was what was expected of him, had genuine feelings (regardless of what type or what mixed emotions) for his wife and does still mourn her while unlearning a lifetime of repression and allowing himself to accept in his 30s the fact that he is gay?
Yes absolutely no argument 1000000% hands down
Like it is a writing dream, the possibilities and complexities of this storyline would be endless
Like give me him talking about working through it in therapy, give me him being scared of how he will tell Chris without making him doubt his relationship with Shannon or making him feel like he got stuck cos she got pregnant with him, give me him talking to the queer ppl around him, give me navigating a whole new world of dating, sex, love, etc that most had got to experience at a younger age but he couldn’t so now has to navigate and experience these things for the first time as a 30 something year old
Yes! I used to work for my state's 211 and the things it can help you - any of you - with is amazing. And I promise you that whoever answers your call WANTS to help you with all their heart.
If you live in the USA and you're pleading for donations to pay your rent, bills, or get food then dial 211! Please dial 211 before the last minute!
It's a toll free service with people who will help you find programs in your community to pay those bills, find food, and find housing! They will give you numbers to call so you can get help.
It is not 100% foolproof. Their job is to direct you to a program they believe will help your current issue, but it's still a step up from praying random strangers online will give you enough cash before a deadline! The added benefit of these community programs, which get funded by the local government most of the time, is if there are more people using them then they can get more money to help more people.
You're not taking resources from other people if you use your community services. Your taxes pay for them. Use them.
Dial 211 first to see if they can help, and if for some reason they can't, then make your donation posts!
