if every chraracter in the show was stuck in their own personal Room 101-- as in, stuck with their worst fears-- what would each of them see? thank you.
Mabel: a mirror.
Anna: her life stretched out into meaningless mundanity.
Vera: a pile of sticks.
Luna: an open cage.
The King Under the Hill: eternity.
Sally: Mabel.

Hi! One of my favorite lines is when Luna says, "Is this what it's like to be a mother? Is this what it's like to be in love?" And I was just sort of wondering if there was any expansion of this concept you would like to share or how this line came about?
I wrote that line; it was a very condensed way of exploring the idea of mothering, divorced from the reality of motherhood. I have never had any interest in having children. My maternal instincts do not stretch to offspring. But I am, in very specific ways, a maternal person. I care for my wife. I tend to our home. I act in ways that are, stereotypically and narratively, reserved for mothers. The same is true of many of our characters: they gentle, and heal, and nourish, and are lovingly unbending, and act as the blueprint for god.
Luna and Vera are a very particular kind of couple, in that Luna literally did create Veratrine. But there are many of us - especially those of us who have tempestuous, abusive, or non-existent relationships with our biological mothers - who are learning to navigate the concept of mothering on our own terms. Who are creating our own maps for our relationships, with our lovers, our found families, our own past and present selves. Self-creation is an incredibly important theme throughout the entirety of the show. This doesn’t always look like Veratrine forging herself out of brambles and dirt; sometimes it looks like Luna, building a more honest and comprehensive understanding of herself, who she is, the consequences of everything she has done.

"you left when you were bored" GOOD FOR HER, GOOD FOR HER
She had every right
You simply cannot force someone to stay with you no matter how petty their reason for wanting to leave may be
I could not care less what promises she made, ESPECIALLY when they expect to live for what? ETERNITY?? BITCH I WOULD BE SHOCKED IF SHE DIDNT WANT TO LEAVE??

Okay okay it's because it's so like boohoo woah is me it's like the king is throwing a pity party for himself
"he let himself be slandered"
Like he was sacrificing something, like he was a martyr
This man was the oppressor like he literally had Luna in a cage and then him/Mabel have the audacity to say shit like "he let himself he slandered because he thought better of you" SHUT THE FUCK UP
I love Mabel, i do, she is one of my favorite characters in the whole show but holy fuck i am never gonna not hold this against her

No i know it's literally the middle of the night but i remembered this and immediately my blood is boiling
"he let himself be slandered because he thought better of you"
I haven't pinned down why this bothers me so much (I've thought about it just being bc i don't like thinking of Luna as 'bad' but i don't think that's the source)
It's like GRRRRR it kills me it really does and the fact that it's coming from MABEL of all people..
Idk im gonna do some Thinking on it so that i can articulate why it bothers me the way it does

Day 1 trillion of me thinking Luna was completely valid for breaking her promise to the King, or for trying to break it anyway

I have been thinking about this line a lot 🙇
And for the most part I'm just like assuming that a lot of this is just Tayau's perspective and how he viewed things and like,, all i can think is.... God He's Such A Cis Man
Luna was valid for breaking her promise i think 🧍
She has no responsibility to free him with or without having promised to
And the king was Not Valid for holding her to it
