Hello!!! I have a question- how do I write consistently? How do I get the motivation?
I love writing, I really do, but I have so much trouble just building up the motivation to write- last time I wrote was at the first of June. And before that, I hadn’t written for two months!
I’m a relatively new writer, so that might be why I struggle to build up the motivation to write, and I have a lot of ideas that I sadly just can’t bring to fruition with this problem of mine.
So umm. How do I do it??? How do I just. Sit down and do something instead of fantasizing about it? How do I write what I want to write without that blockage?
--
If you're having trouble finding the energy to write even though you want to and you have ideas, then the problem might be that you're trying to write the wrong thing.
I don't mean that your ideas are wrong. I mean that the type of story you're trying to write might be wrong.
Lots of people assume "writing a story" means having a beginning, a middle, and an end. They assume it means having a plot. They assume there will be chapters. They think they have to include dialogue or scenery descriptions or transitions from one scene to another - or more than one scene.
These stories that you're fantasizing about might just be a single scene. They might be entirely internal monologue. It might be an image being described by someone seeing it from far away.
Your story might actually be a song, or a poem. It might be a single sentence. It might be one piece of a much larger story that you haven't figured out yet.
Break the rules you've built up for yourself. Ignore what you think you have to do and just do what you want to do. And remember that the best way to tell a story is whatever way you're actually able to write it down.

Yay, I finally managed to catch you with the ask box open! (Don’t get me wrong, I totally understand why that is, and I’m in awe of how much work you put into running this blog.)
Anyway, this has probably been asked about a hundred times in slightly different ways, but here I go again. How do I make myself write more? I love writing and I’m never running out of ideas, but I write very sparsely (like I’m lucky to hit 1k every two months or something if I’m not particularly inspired). I blame the stress of studying, but it’s not like I don’t have any time to relax - more that I spend that time watching tv or reading rather than writing. I consider myself a rather disciplined person when it comes to school, but for some reason I have a harder time pushing myself in my free time. A little pushing would be nice, however, since I really do want to write more. I’m open to any advice, thanks!
[note: the ask box is not open. this question was sent in months ago]
If you love writing and you have lots of ideas, then there must be something else that's stopping you from doing it. I suggest trying to identify what that thing is. Here are some possibilities, but this is by no means an exhaustive list:
the time when you're free to write and the time when you're at your most creative do not line up
you've created a rule for yourself where you can only write after you've done something else first - and you rarely do that thing
you think that your idea will require you to write a lot of context or backstory first and you don't enjoy that part of writing and so it feels more like homework than like fun, and you've already got enough homework to deal with
something about your writing set up isn't working for you - perhaps you normally write fic on a phone but would have an easier time typing on a full keyboard. Maybe you always write at a desk, but you'd enjoy it more if you wrote while sitting on your couch, etc
there's something in your fandom experiences that makes you think that posting your stories would be bad for you in some way (negative comments, or a lack of response that you would take to heart)
It very well could just be like you said - that you're stressed out and overwhelmed in your day to day life - in which case taking care of yourself still needs to come first ❤
Instead of "making yourself" write more, try to look at your current situation and think "what would make writing easier to do?" If you can identify some of those things and remove those barriers, you might just find yourself getting more writing done because there aren't as many things stopping you anymore.

Hey, I know you write fanfiction so I wanted to ask a couple of questions. How can you be objective about your work? How can tell whether it’s good without being biased? It’s easy to think your work is amazing when you’ve put a lot of effort into it. I’m some who’s done quite well academically in English, and that’s given me a bit of confidence to start in fanfiction. But there’s a relative lack of recognition or ‘kudos’ on my work. You probably shouldn’t compare your work to others, but it’s inevitable. I know that I'm very new, that the fandom I’m writing for is quite niche and not very active anymore, and I don’t have a social media following either, but I don’t know if this is the reason and don’t want to delude myself. Rarely will someone ever tell you your work is not good, but if it isn't, I would like to know.
Hiya!  Thanks for thinking of me for this question and I’m sorry it’s taken me exactly 84 years to answer it :(
So I think your question really boils down to whether or not your fics are “good” because they receive a low amount of engagement.
Now I’m not a big fan of using any kind of qualifications like good or bad when it comes to fiction or really any creative outlet.  This is mainly (1) because the inherent value of something shouldn’t be based on the reception it receives but more in the act of creating itself and (2) because “goodness” is deeply personal and contingent on individual preferences, life experiences, and opinions.
There are a lot of super popular fics in my various fandoms that have just never connected for me.  This doesn’t mean those fics are “bad”, it just means I don’t personally like them.  These are fics that maybe feature tropes I don’t enjoy or have characterizations that don’t align to my personal beliefs - but ultimately they’re still something that the general fandom enjoyed for whatever reason.
Really what I’m trying to say here is that goodness doesn’t exist in fanfic and that popularity can be a fickle and arbitrary thing to achieve.  So I wouldn’t necessarily take the lack of engagement as a commentary on your skills as a writer - especially in a more niche and inactive fandom.
These statistics aren’t reflective of you or your work - don’t give them the power to influence you or change what you’re doing.  What’s important is whether or not you enjoy or like what you’ve created and if you achieved whatever your goal was for the piece.
I actually recently read a couple interesting posts by @ao3commentoftheday that touched on something similar with the lack of comments/engagement in fandom and how for some people it was less about the comments themselves and more about wanting to build a connection to others and share this enthusiasm for a show/ship/plot.
I’m going to link the posts here and here because I think they’re both worth a read - and I don’t want to assume anything from your ask, but I think maybe this is at the core of what you might want too.  That maybe you want people to talk to about your writing and these characters that you clearly love and enjoy?
So the question, I think, becomes how do you build or join a community?  Well there’s a couple things that you could do:
Fandom as a whole is a very reciprocal environment.  People are more inclined to engage with people that engage with them.  So if you’re looking to receive comments or kudos on your work make sure you’re doing that for others too!  Or send other authors asks when they do ask games! Or reblog their fic posts and leave nice tags!  I know this can seem especially daunting when you’re new to a fandom - but I think this is probably one of the most important things you can do to start making friends.  I’ve met some of my closest fandom friends through fic comment sections or through tags or just by sending a funny ask.  All you have to do is be brave for just one minute!
(As a side-note to this - I don’t want to discourage you from going for your fandom’s BNFs with the above approach, but sometimes it’s hard to breakthrough with this group and they might not be interested in branching out, etc.  So don’t forget to also look for other “smaller” blogs or people who joined around the time you did.)
Post about your work on your blog and make sure to use your fandom’s popular tags.  Not everyone in fandom is refreshing the AO3 tag (or whatever equivalent site) every single day - so it might be that people in your fandom just aren’t aware there’s even new fic being posted.
Do a graphic for the fic.  Now personally I’m not a big fan of doing graphics, but it’s hard not to argue that they’re eye-catching and could be what makes someone consider reading your fic.  So don’t be afraid to do a title graphic or a mood-board or inspo post.
Don’t forget to add a link or shout-out to your tumblr page in your author’s note when you update (if you’re comfortable with that).  This is a great way for people who really like your fic to connect with you and send you asks or comments!
And like one of the posts I linked above suggests - think about joining in fandom activities (assuming your fandom does them).  This is a great way to get an almost built-in audience.
These things can all invite conversation about your work (or even just canon in general) while building connections and a name for you in the fandom.  And maybe this won’t increase your kudos, but this could make you feel more valuable in the fandom and reduce the importance kudos have on you and your work.
Now all of this assumes that your goal in writing is to make connections, but maybe you’re just looking for validation or kudos.  There’s nothing wrong with that - and doing the things above can still help you in achieving that goal.  But I think then you could also take a look at what’s popular in your fandom.  Are there common tropes or pairings or themes?  A lot of popular fics stem from writing things that either don’t exist in or differ greatly from canon, so you can use that as a guide in your creation.
The last suggestion I have is more in the technicality of writing itself.  If you’re maybe more serious about creating and wanting to challenge yourself while receiving direct critiques and suggestions then you could consider getting a beta.  Betas can help with grammatical elements in your writing, but they can also help you with things like characterizations, plot development, outlining, and just serve as a dedicated sounding board if you have questions or concerns.  I know my confidence as a writer really grew when I started using a beta or really when I started sharing ideas with friends in my fandom.
Hopefully some of these things help you out!  And hey if I happen to be in the fandom you’re writing for let me know if I can help you out at all - my dms and inbox are always open :)
(And if anyone has gotten to this point and would like to add more advice - please do!!!)

do you have any drunk!obi headcanons? 👀
Some sw books have tried to tell me that Obi-Wan doesn’t drink, and I’m just like... Have you seen this man? please.
it takes a lot to get Obi-Wan drunk.
Like. A lot. Anakin is a lightweight who has been completely hammered after two glasses more than once in his life, and Obi-Wan never misses a chance to make fun of him. So he has tried multiple times to even the odds. He always passes out before Obi-wan gets tipsy.
It turns out that Obi-Wan IS drunk when it happens, but Anakin can never tell because he has really good control of himself.
One time, after a very long and exhausting mission, Obi-Wan allowed himself to drink with Cody and his men, and when a clone came to tell him that he needed to get in the conference room right now for an urgent council meeting, he sighed, downed 5 shots of tsiraki, said “alright, I’m ready now, let’s go” and the clones all silently thought that they would die for this man.
Obi-Wan never gets too dark in front of his men, but Quinlan has heard a lot of “Sometimes I just want to be carbon-frozen.” “Yeah, and then be woken up at the end of the war?” “No, never wake up, just stay frozen.”
Anytime he goes to a cantina to drink and relax, he can end up with ten new friends and half of his drinks free, or starts three brawls by mistake and be banned from a whole district for life, there is no in-between.
“Skywalker,” Bail Organa once stopped him in the corridor of the Senate, “did you see Master Kenobi today?” “Yes?” “And he was... alive, right?” “...Why are you the second person to ask me this, and does that has something to do with him promising to never drink with you and Padmé again when he’s bored at a Senate reception twenty times this morning”
“Well, when he said that he loved you, Ahsoka and his clones, Padmé thought he was dying.” “...Excuse me Senator, I thought, for a ridiculous moment, that you said that Obi-Wan confessed his love for me.” “Not just you, but yes, he di— are you crying?”
Every time Obi-Wan is drunk around Anakin, he lets something outrageous slip, and Anakin’s like “I’m sorry, you did what now” and never knows if it’s true or not
“It’s such a shame that padawans today have to deal with a galactic war.” “Yes, I worry for Ahsoka sometimes.” “Padawans should worry about silly things, like I did at their age, like being chased by Coruscant underworld police for indecent exposure and bribery—” “yeah, that’s— wait” “or getting in trouble for losing half of the Order’s budget of the year at Sabacc—” “wait wait wait, hold on there—” “or having to explain why a girl is showing up at the temple claiming she’s pregnant because of you—” “HOLD ON, HOLD ON A SECOND—”

The Falcon & The Winter Solider - Episode 4 Reaction (and oh boy, I have a LOT to say)
Tumblr media
Well, damn. That was incredible, I was literally screaming at the TV the whole episode. If anyone says after that episode that this show is a disappointment, we must be watching entirely different things.
As usual, there will be spoilers, so I’ve put the rest of my thoughts below. Read below at your own discretion!

Oh god, I 100% did not expect that ending, but it’s great. It’s so great and awful and I love it. THIS SHOT. The blood on Cap’s shield, and that dead look in his eyes, everyone filming. My man Walker is in hot water, and I’mma enjoy every single bit of the shitshow this is bound to unleash on them all.
I was definitely waiting for Bucky to snap and do something not-so-Steve-like but turns out I was worried about the wrong guy lmao.
