the chant/phrase "indict, convict, send the killer cops to jail, the whole damn system is guilty as hell" is a contradiction. it is perfectly reasonable and consistent for abolitionists to oppose jailing killer cops.

according to traditional Chinese medicine, one estimate of how many days should pass before a man ejaculates is 20% of the number of years he has. so as a 32 year old, i should ejaculate every 6.4 days. this is to allow the body to reproduce the nutrients from the ejected sperm and seminal fluid and also maintain Jing, or essence.

if our enemies do not have their basic needs met, we cannot be safe. our enemies often want the same things we do. and they are usually too unskilled to get those needs met without causing suffering to others

dorsal fins
dorsal fins on dolphins seem to be an evolutionary adaptation that arose from the intense motion of water in the ocean. they help dolphins control their balance. this is different from tail flukes or side fins which appear to be evolutionary leftovers from previous stages of life.

just pick one person
sometimes, the best thing to do when someone is in their final hours is to pick just one person to be with them as they die. this can relieve the guilt of family/friends who don’t want the dying person to be alone in their final moment. and it can support the dying person who, if they have accepted death, won’t have interest in being surrounded by people they have released connection from.

avoidance via ordering tests
sometimes, doctors who are unable to deal with the possibility or inevitability of death in their patients will order unnecessary tests in order to (a) make it appear as if they are still caring about/for the patient and have not given up hope or (b) minimize the time they actually have to spend with the patient. both of these reasons allow the doctor to use denial as a method of avoiding a hard conversation with the patient.

what if we talked about people's mortality just like we talked about people expecting a baby? what if both things were just as common in our daily speech?

one (of many) reason why police reform won’t work
“the philosophy undergirding these [police] reforms is that more rules will mean less violence. but police officers break rules all the time.”

“...there is no separate entity that is the target of our anger...”
In absolute reality, there is no separate entity that is the target of our anger, or the object of any emotion. In reality, there is no reason to get angry at all. We create the story, the projections, and the anger at the same time.

how much water should you drink every day?
if you take your pound weight and divide it in half, that’s the number of ounces of water you should drink that day.
