"stress" by yoan capote - made of bronze and concrete

#I rly like this work #it’s uncanny and uncomfortable to look at right #but also from a distance you wouldn’t be able to see the stress rly #it looks like a slightly askew column but functional and stable nonetheless #but as you get closer you realize that stability is a lie #it rests on gritted teeth #and gritted teeth alone #it’s precarious and depends entirely on the teeth not breaking #on constant crushing pressure #and it something fails if those teeth fail if someone tried to relax #it all comes tumbling down #there’s more ofc but like I enjoy how kind of blunt and visceral it is

This was an older Embrace piece that wasn't up to scratch, was going to recycle it, instead reworked the faces and manes, and used it as an opportunity to practice painting with acrylics. One of the faces has the more “plastic” look that I've been trying to avoid with acrylics (lower left photo). Watering the paint down and then gradually layering seems to keep the matte look I was getting with gouache.

Solar Eclipse Shadows

These solar eclipse shadows form due to the distance between the sun and the leaves on the trees. The distance and the proximity of the leaves to one another cause for a "lensing" type effect, making the eclipse shadow clearer to the human eye.
