One thing I can't understand, not in a million years, is why so many Loki fans take Mobius's side without a moment of hesitation and bend over backwards to justify his actions. I mean there's a character with a really tragic life who you claim to love and who you have been rooting for and sympathizing for many years. And then you get handed a new character like yesterday, who you know next to nothing about except the few things the series creators told during the promotional campaign (which might or might not be true) and whose only "accomlishment" so far has been to use highly controversial methods to break Loki in order to make Loki work for him.

Overview of Storytelling problems in the Loki series

Characters are suddenly acting entirely different in comparison with events that were in-universe just moments ago without giving any explanation at all: Loki climbs on a stone to talk down to the Mongolians (= acts pathetic and ridiculous) in comparison to him facing real threads like iron man being calm and with the thread-appropriate posturing (= acts badass and in-control).

Changing the characterization and/or the character’s motives retrospectively: in Avengers Loki’s motive was that Thanos pressured him into invading earth (torture signs, the other threatening and hurting Loki on-screen). In the Loki series it suddenly was because of his glorious purpose which never even had that much weight before. As far as I remember it was mentioned once in the Avengers, but neither in Thor 1, 2 or 3.

Major events not getting any further attention as soon they fulfilled their purpose for the plot: Sylvie bombing the sacred timeline and causing all those branches never gets talked about again, after it was supposed to be a major fallout. Also, we never get the explanation what exactly caused the nexus event on Lamentis.

Telling the audience what they have to believe instead of showing the character’s actions and let the audience come to their own conclusions: in episode 1, Loki pushes his (newly redconned) motivation in the audiences faces to make sure nobody can question it. This includes all those little things we are only being told and are supposed to accept without question, like the fact people supposedly stop aging in the pruniverse since kid loki was there longest.

The main character feels passive and only gets dragged along by other characters and/or the plot: up to episode 4, Loki does not show any motivation that goes beyond survival. After episode 4, he supports Sylvie‘s motivation, which still doesn’t give much flavor on his part.

The main character has no effect on the plot: the TVA!Loki has in fact that little impact on the plot that Sylvie would have gone through the same storyline without him being there. The only difference would be that she would have been there one episode earlier, because she wouldn’t have gotten stuck on Lamentis.

Writing a redemption arc without addressing why the character fell from grace in the first place: A redemption arc needs the audience sympathize with the character to forgive their actions. Without giving the characters motivations for the evil deeds the new behavior can only cover the former misdeeds but never erase them. Oh, also this bears the very real change that you never understood what the character has to be redeemed for and end up redeeming something that never even happened or mattered in the first place: Loki being mistreated by his family or tortured by Thanos never gets mentioned.

Failing to show well-defined characterization, subsequently causing pale, muddy characters: until the end of the series it‘s still not clear if the TVA is ‚good‘ or ‚bad‘. Mobius regretting what he was done in episode 5 feels empty because we never realized he did something ambivalent. Characterizations need to be shown clearly and make an impact. If someone does bad things those should be shown as bad. But Sif kicking Loki where it hurts most isn’t even shown as something bad. Neither is Mobius treatment of Loki shown as bad. The only scenes where it was entirely clear who‘s the bad guy where Sylvie‘s (her kidnapping in childhood, her killing the Minute men).

Double standards - heroes are forgiven the same actions the villain gets condemned for: Loki wanting to take away people‘s choices is baaad, but when Kang does it, it’s a good thing. Arguably, this point could also be attributed to failure No. 8.

Deus Villain ex machina - the villain should be introduced early on the show without being revealed to be the villain. Otherwise it‘s simply boring. Kang suddenly appearing and telling everyone it has been him all along? Please. That’s just an cheating those who are trying to keep to think along.

Forcing aspects that aren’t plot relevant for the sake of including them: this is true for the bi-representation and the genderfluidity representation that seemed to be included only to allure the part of the audience that wished for them. The problem is - people will notice if your heart isn’t in a part and likely feel worse than they would have entirely without those parts. In the end none of those parts felt important or even sincere. But representation has to come on top of well characterization and not instead of it. Otherwise it remains empty lip service, like mentioning once there had been partners of both genders but never even looking at a man. And don’t get me started on the genderfluid representation. I’ll excuse the alligator, though.

Being boring: what even were the stakes in the series? I remember Loki being threatened with getting pruned once, but the rest was more or less left for us to fill out? Yeah, so entire time lines got pruned? I won’t develop much empathy if we never get to forge an emotional connection to one before it gets blown away. You don’t have to go all George R.R. Martin, but a little investment wouldn’t have hurt. Also, this would have prevented point No. 8 and parts of No.9.

I also hate the Loki show but don't you think it's a bit far to say that they purposefully made the show bad? It's completely awful but them doing that on purpose doesn't make sense monetarily. I just think that they had incredibly shitty writers

I think they intended to make the show good but failed due to lack of talent. However I think they wanted audiences to like Sylvie and Mobius. The sabotage of Tom's Loki was intentional. And yes it is bizarre and doesn't make sense but that's the only logical conclusion though I absolutely agree that Disney is behaving irrationally.

If it was just a mistake then Tom's Loki wouldn't be the only one with terrible makeup. But that's not the case; the other characters look fine. If it was just a mistake all the characters would be constantly humiliated and made the butt of bad jokes but no; it's just Tom's Loki. Etc. The show is completely nonsensical and inconsistent due to bad writing. The only consistent factor is that at every turn the show makes a mockery of Tom's Loki, prevents Tom from being given any scenes where he could use his prodigious acting skills to make Loki at all likable or even interesting, and tries to convince audiences that this character is boring and simplistic and uninteresting and the character we should actually like and feel sorry for and think is cool is Sylvie and also to some extent Mobius. It's only Loki who gets nerfed and doesn't get to wear cool clothes etc. That's not a mistake. The show was not made in good faith.

In the Hyundai commercial Loki feels in character and is instantly recognizable because while Hyunai doesn't care about Loki they want to sell cars and they understand that Loki is an appealing character that will sell cars for them better than whatever that thing in the show is. The commercial was made in good faith by rational people and thus contains Loki. The show was made in bad faith by irrational people and thus does not contain Loki.

WHY is anyone's guess. Must be some kind of internal politics or something.

It was Tom that made us fall in love with Loki back in 2011. 

It was Tom that caused all the madness at Comic cons.

It was Tom´s Loki that fans brought back to life twice because they loved him so much.

It was Tom´s Loki, that was beloved so much,Marvel had to give him his own show.

It was Tom´s Loki that made fans wait for 3 years to his show in anticipation to finally see Loki to be the star, after years of being in the shadow of heroes.

It was Tom who promoted it.

It was Tom who they promised us.

It was Tom´s Loki who they claimed would have the story centered around.

So forgive me for being fucking pissed that instaed of that i got some bitch that came out of nowhere, got his signature colours and helmet, even some of his magic, instaed of my Loki and finally story focusing on him,they focused on her, writers even dare to tell me that her pain is bigger, that after a decade yes a decade of waiting for LOKI series I got Sylvie series and when I dare to speak up, I have thrown into my face that I “just hate strong women”? 

And my most favourite accusation was “you are just angry Loki wasnt the star”

All of this to defend a new character that never ever did anything to make Loki legendary as he is now. It was all Tom Hiddleston. Not only we fans were cheated and deceaved by Marvel promising us LOKI series and giving us Sylvie bullshit, it is also disrespectful to Tom to do that to him, after he turned Loki into a literal living legend.

Keep loving Sylvie, that is no problem. But dont fucking insult me by calling me sexist because I dared to say I wanted Loki show. In a show called Loki. After waiting a decade of Loki. As Im saying, I waited decade.  And I shall not fall as quickly as you for the first person that comes and says im Loki too.

After following him for 10 years and suffering with him, we get his own show where the writers basically shovel new character down our throats and tell us “but they suffered more than Loki! He is just narcissist! Look at how Sylvie suffered! Feel sorry for her!” 

If you gonna give me the “she is Loki too” crap...Read all of the above. For me, Loki is only Tom. Because unlike so many of you, I do not forget who made me fall in love with Loki and whole MCU. I do not forget everything that Tom did and sacrificed. We all would not be here, and you Sylvie defenders would also not be here suddenly loving her more than Loki himself, if it wasnt for Tom. 

Advertising Loki with Tom, making him the face of the project then finding out he plays only supportive character is highly disrespectful to Tom. And to us, loyal fans who waited years. I was cheated.

Last thing. If you gonna spill the bullcrap “you are not realy Loki fan if you only love Tom´s Loki” on me, please, kindly,fuck off into safe distance, If being faithful to the only actor who could ever portray him, to the actor thanks to whom Loki didnt die in TDW, to the actor thanks to whom we got a show in a first place, then by all means, Im happily a “fake fan”.

After 10 years, Loki gets his show. After decade of being a sidekick.

Now is the perfect,and maybe the only chance to address his traums, pain, abuse and humiliation that he´s been through and mindcontrolling.

And instaed of doing this, Loki writers just wrapped it all up into “he is narcissist” and made him confess to this after being humiliated again by being literally kicked into ball thousand times, and instaed of dealing with his issues, they made up new character noone asked for, made this character the main star, focused on their issues (those btw look like they were written in 5 minutes) and if we dare to speak up that we wanted Loki and his story,we are called toxic and fake fans and even sexist? Because we dared to want what we waited for year? (decade in my case) Ok.I get it. Its like waiting for therapy and when you get to the therapist´s office, the therapist talks about their new patient and their problems and when you speak up Hey,this is my session! the therapist goes like “shut up,that person has it a lot harder than you,you are just a narcissist”.

No seriously. When I was watching fight scenes in Loki my blood was boiling. Literaly all his grace and moves of a 1000 years old trained warrior were gone. This is how an ordinary dude fights. Not a God that has seen some shit in battles.
