as we all know, the messiest bitches are men, so everything that happens is because two dudes going through their respective mid-life crises are making everyone around them miserable to satisfy their egos

local area man forced to flirt against his will and is torn between doing a bad job at it because he's petty and spiteful and doesn't like being told what to do, and doing a good job because he has zero self-control

mc is encouraged to snu snu with at least 2/3 of these dudes

mc is also allowed to snu snu all of them if she so desires because her whole schtick is to be messy and cause drama

Do you have any advice for someone who can't kill theirs?

(I'm just planning but I can't bear to not keep them. It's a curse. And feature creep. :()

when you have to start twisting the plot to accommodate a character and it's turning out to be really hard, that's when they should be killed off. sometimes, it's just not meant to be, and hey, you can just toss the character to a pile somewhere and dig them out later.

but yeah, if you're curious about my character creation process, you're actually kinda witnessing it in real time right now. usually it goes something like -- plot point comes to mind that i really like, spend a few days workshopping a setting (scifi, western low fantasy, eastern low fantasy, magic or no magic, etc), and the characters just kind of fall into place from there.

i kind of cheat when it comes to making characters though, since majority of them come from the same schematics and i just let them marinade in my brain for a while to get some more concrete personalities and backstories out of them (see the very distinct brand of trash that all come from proto-vezian). then it's probably another few weeks of rough plotting to trim down or expand the cast, settle on backstories, and attach roles to everyone. it's all very vibes-based, to be honest.

unhinged good boy's romance is basically having a lovable little freak who thinks gifting mc dead animals and/or people is an acceptable declaration of love, and having the gall to blush and stammer while doing so.

wet street cat is horny against his will and trying to outmanoeuvre mc's dad and maybe her, while also trying to decide if he hates mc's family more than the emperor. oh and he's trying to flirt the entire time, so he's saying sweet nothings while looking like he'd rather eat shit.

coomer groomer sex pest is also there i guess. he has one kinda cool murder, but his motivation is 🤢🤮

Same rec anon here XD but have you read Stolen by Lucy Christopher? This book ended me and made me question my moral principles. Also made me realize I have a fetish for Australian men. Basically the plot goes is that our protagonist - a 16 year old girl named Gemma is kidnapped by 25 year old Ty, to the Australian Outback, who expects for her to love him and be with him there forever. Ty had a lot of issues but he was so charismatic and lovable...to put into terms, he was like a cinnamon roll yandere, one who could fly off the handle everytime Gemma attempted escape. All he wanted was to love and be loved in return, something he had been deprived of his whole life. Also the writing was muah *chef's kiss, absolutely beautiful and very poetic. I have a lot of passages and quotes highlighted. Made me want to visit Australia.

on the topic of names, would it be alright to ask exactly how you were able to find or come up with the chinese/mongolian-esque names/naming conventions for abea and kok? :0

like how i do most things, i just took a bunch of things i found cool in onomastics and smashed them together to create an unholy beast lol

patronymics are cool, clan names are super cool, courtesy names are hella cool, so just put them all together.

in terms of i guess what could be called ~aesthetics~ or the sound of the names, i just looked at a lot of mongolian and tibetan names/places, tried to approximate the sounds through a combination of ipa and pinyin when available and accurate, and picked ones i liked. i wish i could say i had a more sophisticated method for conlangs, but unfortunately i don't, and chose the more masochistic method of working backwards
