She laughed at his eye roll. “My hot little house wife.” Victoria did appreciate everything he did. Back in New York she just hired a maid. She was too busy to clean everything herself. “Oh come on. Why don’t you come with me to Richmond next time?”
Tumblr media
He shook his head and rubbed a hand over his face.  He had no idea how to respond to that little comment.  “Because I don’t like Richmond.  I like it here.  I like nature,” Christian said glancing around at the scenery.

“oh i don’t know, i’ve been known to see it spread pretty quickly when it needs to.” she’d been on the bad side off that a number of times growing up, and even on the odd occasion after. it was part of the town charm, she supposed some would call it. “if not, i suppose just this once i could offer one of my bottles. a good deed of the day.”
“You from here?” Christian asked when she mentioned how quickly information could spread when the need arose.  He leaned on his cart, moving back and forth in place, mostly to keep his own mind occupied.  “This line isn’t moving that quick.  I bet I could take a walk back there and grab some more for the both of us.”

“Thank you, seriously.” She smiled. Scarlett liked to do it on her own but at times there were things that went above her. If someone was offering to see if there was a legal way around this she was going to definitely take that. Grabbing the papers that fell on the table from her bag and putting them together. She put them back into her bag and closed it.
Tumblr media
Christian scanned the first few pages quickly, knowing exactly what type of clause he was looking for and where it would fall in the contract.  “Here we go,” he said laying the paperwork down and showing it to her.  “If vendor cannot provide services, they must supply a backup option that can render similar services,” he quoted off to her.  “So I’d call them and call their bluff.”

“that would be a miracle, wouldn’t it?” she asked with a laugh - pine river getting any sort of press, becoming some sort of tourist hot spot, was about as unlikely as anything else. michaela doubted that there was ever going to be a time where it might become the place to be. “maybe we’ve missed something. some star is coming to visit so everyone’s flocked here. if that’s the case, it might be my cue to hide.” getting away from the sort of life she’d had before was part of the reason she was back, and any whiff of celebrities coming to town would have her heading for hibernation. “i think you should. you can’t go wrong with a glass of something alcoholic.”
Christian chuckled when she mentioned a miracle if anything ever happened in town.  “We could have missed something.  I’ve been up at Wheat Hill the past few days working, and we know that news doesn’t always travel fast around here,” he added with a wink before pushing his cart forward a bit.  The line was actually starting to move, just a bit.  “Think they have anything alcoholic up front?”

He was thankful to know most of the owners of the small businesses in town. He was a loyal person Cooper, and when the man said he’d come back and pay for his tab, he meant it. However this time Christian got it, and the Detective made a mental not to pay Christian back as soon as he got home and was able to function. He was exhausted, Cooper was exhausted and he was kind of glad that Christian picked up on that. “I’m fine. I’m just exhausted. I need to sleep but I can’t because it just wont stop.” His words were slurring still and Cooper took a deep breath. He folded his arms across his chest and walked out of the bar with Christian “Talk to me about Victoria. I can’t talk about this right now. It hurts too much.”
Christian steered Cooper out of the bar and down the street.  Maybe the best course of action wasn’t to take him home, but to take him to Christian’s.  “Alright.  How about we have a sleepover at my place?” he suggested.  True, it was juvenile, but as long as it helped, Christian didn’t care.  “Maybe a different house could help you sleep better?” he suggested.  Christian hoped that Cooper would accept the offer.  “I can make some coffee.  You can borrow some clothes.  Hell, we can sleep in the living room if you wanted.  What do you want to know about Tory?” he asked glancing over at his friend as they continued to walk.  “Not sure there is much to share man.”

Victoria nodded watching him. “You never know what might happen. When you need one you just let me know.” She was being cocky as usual. Victoria knew she was good at her job and she knew everyone eventually needed a lawyer.

Darius nodded, unsure of what a polite response would consist on in this situation.  “Thank you,” he said politely.  It was the easiest response to go with after all.  A moment later, his take out bags were brought over.  “Have a good night.”

“Yeah, you’re not wrong.” He smiled. “What else have you been doing lately?” James looked at Darius. Shifting in his seat a little bit. Feeling his phone vibrate James looked down at it briefly to see a text from Gage. Setting his phone down he would text her in a moment.
Tumblr media
Darius shrugged his shoulders a bit when James asked what he had been up too.  It wasn’t like Darius lived an extremely exciting life.  He lived a life that made him happy.  “Been helping at the B&B a bit more since my mom is short on staff,” he admitted.  “But really just focused on work.  Looking forward to the break.”

“It’s…going.” She said laughing a bit. “How are you doing Darius?” The town was small enough that Rylan knew almost all of her regulars. Well at least the ones that were willing to let her get to know them. “Do you want a beer or something stronger than that tonight?”
“Beer is fine, thank you,” he told her with a nod.  “Just whenever you have a chance.  No rush,” he added.  It seemed like Rylan may have had her hands full with the various customers that were hanging around this evening.  He reached for a menu and began to look it over.  “I’m doing alright.  Long day at the high school today.”

Meg was coming off from what seemed like a very long shift and needed some energy in the form of caffeine. Except there was one problem. She didn’t seem to know the way to the coffee shop. She had only been here for about six months and had a horrible sense of direction. The young woman would’ve able to get lost in a paper bag if she was being honest with herself. “Hey.” she spoke stopping the person on the street. “Can you tell me how to get to the coffee shop?” She asked a little embarrassed that she wasn’t more sure of the way.
Darius glanced up from the book he was reading.  He had gone outside one of the shops to wait for his wife while she finished looking at whatever new decorative piece she had her eye on for their home.  Darius didn’t mind.  It just wasn’t his favorite activity to participate in.  ‘A block that way and hand a left,” Darius told her.  “You won’t miss the sign out front with all the specials.”

Taking the napkin from him she wiped off her face and set it on her lap. Smirking at his response. “We all know why.” She leaned back into the chair more. “Awe, my little housewife.” She grinned. “Gotta get out some more.”
Tumblr media
Christian rolled his eyes when the blonde referred to him as the housewife among the pair.  It wasn’t that she was wrong.  He did most of the tidying.  The cooking.  The cleaning.  And he didn’t mind.  He had been on his own for so long that it was just natural to do those things.  “Eh, I’m happy where I am,” he shrugged.

“Uh, yeah actually.” Scarlett grabbed her bag. It was a complete mess right now cause she had been digging through it earlier. Searching for the vendor contracts she grabbed the one and handed it over to him. “Thank you. I really appreciate that. I’m just not sure what i’ll do if I can’t get these.”
Tumblr media
“It’s no problem.  Really,” he assured with a wave of his hand as he took the paperwork from her.  Christian took a seat at one of the nearby tables and began to read over the document quickly, searching for anything that could help the woman during her present situation.  “All part of the job,” he added with a smile.

michaela supposed he was right. you didn’t get everything the second you knew you needed it - these things took time, no matter what it was in life you were looking for, looking to achieve. “sounds more fancy than mine.” she gave a small laugh. “your fancy dinner might have to wait though if this place is still as swarmed as this. could be an hour before we even get out of here. did you even know there were this many people in town? what, did they all come here all at once?”
Christian couldn’t help but chuckle when the woman asked where all the people within the grocery store had come from.  He shook his head.  “I guess Pine River may have finally found itself a place on the map?” he suggested as he moved his cart back and forth a bit, just for something to do while they stood and waited.  He glanced towards the magazine rack to see if there was anything of interest.  “My dinner may have to wait,” he agreed.  “Or maybe I should go grab a few more items like you have.”

Cases that involved children always took a toll on Cooper. Especially the ones he couldn’t save. It was because him and his sister were children when she passed and he couldn’t save her. Cases with children who he couldn’t save always bothered him and for that reason. He tried not to think about it, tried not to get to attached but Cooper couldn’t help it. It was something he was working on. That’s how he found himself here at the Winery. That’s how he found himself calling Christian for help. When Christian grabbed Cooper’s shoulder for a moment, the Detective sighed and looked down “I had her. I had her but I couldn’t save her.” At this point, Cooper wasn’t sure if he was talking about the victim he lost or his sister. Taking a deep breath, Cooper swallowed hard. “We caught the son of a bitch but it just still doesn’t seem right. It’s’s not fair. She was too young.” The younger they are, the harder it is. “Well if you say so.” Cooper said to Christian, smirking a bit. He took a sip of his water that the waiter brought him and Cooper swallowed hard again. Cooper didn’t want to push Christian into talking about Victoria, but he knew his friend and he knew that there was something he wasn’t telling him. Choosing to ignore it however, Cooper’s face fell when Christian brought up his ex again. Shrugging his shoulders, Cooper took another sip of his water “Not good. I don’t know. There’s a lot going on right now. I don’t really know how to deal with it.” He looked at Christian and sighed “I fucked things up badly with her. I’m so in love with her still but I need her to stay away from me.”
Tumblr media
Christian took a breath as he watched his friend bounce from one thought to the next.  Maybe it was time to get him out of the bar and home.  Maybe a good night’s rest would help clear Cooper’s mind.  Christian reached for his wallet and tossed some bills on the bar top to cover the bill his friend had likely run up over the course of the evening and processing his feelings.  “Why don’t we get you home and get you some aspirin?” Christian suggested softly, not wanting to embarrass the other man.  “Plus, we can talk more at your place, if you want.”  The environment would likely be more comfortable for the other to process everything he was going through.

She grinned at him. “Wonder why else you keep me around.” Taking another bite of her sandwich she set it down and looked back up at Christian. “Ah what you do best.” She smirked. “You’re a great listener.” There had been many times in the past where she yelled and he just sat there. “Did you do anything else fun while I was gone?”
Tumblr media
When Victoria set her sandwich down, Christian reached for the pile of napkins and passed another to her.  “Yeah, sometimes, I wonder the same thing too,” he told Victoria with a wink.  He nodded when she said he was a great listener.  It was rare that she paid anyone a compliment, so Christian always took them to heart and held onto them a bit longer.  “No.  Not really.  Cleaned.  Did laundry.  The usual household chores.”
