ROAD
So much glare in the headlights
The mirror flog obscured
To see forward through a blizzard
To see back through a maze
Is there direction in where we're going
Or sense in where we've been?
More likely luck in where we're landing
Or misfortune in our gaze.

EMPIRE
A brilliance is just that –
Blinding, fleeting
Momentary vividness
Against a navy-blue backdrop.
It arcs across your cheek
Curves against your speech
Bends around the loop of time
And bows to the void.
How do we avoid the bankrupt?
The deficit of aftermath
Once the flash has spoken
The boom, no longer resounding.
There in trickle down;
Currency, tucked beneath lace.
A line of sand, blown.
Glass and paper, at sea.

IN SHADOWS
I feel the sadness
The disconnect
My muse is a shadow speck
I cannot touch her fingers to mine
When did her hand let go
When did we disengage?
The further I drift
The longer she disolves
in shadows.

THE FALL
There is nothing that tethers me
To my own reality, this obscure frame
Of reference, of opaqueness
Of the hours, spent in days
Traded in weeks
Negotiated in misstated months.
I am an embarrassment.
I am a blip, I am the sum
Of profitable baselines.
Just the rise and fall
Of a curve as it arks
And ebbs, with or without
Me to play a significant part.
I am just the fall;
Play on.

There
Is life
Laughing at our footholds
Jumping up to hold our hand
But quite prepared
To break our fingers.

SUNLIGHT
There are bubbles in her hands
They flow around her sensibility
There are no apologies
Those will come later
There are grapes between her toes
She squashes them regularly
Wearing tannin earrings
And blowing kisses to the wind
There are no gravel rashes
Despite the steep decline
Only appearances
To hold up against the sunlight

SANDSTORMS
He creates sandstorms
Whips then up on Saturday nights
Dust flying from his fists
Drenching whiskey lips
His fights are internal
A second of opportunity
Eternal, briskly ignited
By the randomness of strangers
That faceless apparition
Looming in the dark spaces
And surfacing in the split of a lip
The dislodgement of teeth
That feels alive
It's a handhold into something
That isn't numb
Even though it's broken.

FLOAT
I detach myself
I am a satellite
I float far out in space
I've never seen a meteorite
I am an island
I float out far from shore
My signal is faint to weak
You have never seen me before
Sometimes I'll try to build you in
I'll try, but you don't fit in.
So then I'm just an orbit
Out in space
I'm a metamorphosis
Without a face.

IN LINE.
The bustle of people
The ordinary mundane
Now a cautious novelty
An on again, off again game
We are uncomfortably masked
Shelling plastic peas for our evening meal
Fighting over kitchen scraps
And complaining about the weather
Concern swells
It ebbs and then recedes
It builds and crashes over us
Spread by the glow of our palms
We wait for salvation
To bite us in the arm
Take your ticket
And stand in line.

Loop
She was a question mark
Folded back against herself
Punctuated by a full stop
Afraid of the dark.
She dreamed in ampersands
Infinitely looping in recurring phrases
Never quite sure of form and faces
Afraid to make her mark.
