As long as we keep remembering, suffering has not been for nothing.
Today August 23 is the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition.
On this day in 1791 slaves in Santo Domingo (modern-day Haiti and the Dominican Republic) began an uprising which is seen as one of the crucial initial steps to the eventual abolition of the transatlantic slave trade.
Of course, it is important to remember that the East African slave trade continued well after the abolition of slavery by the USA, other American countries, and European powers. Furthermore, we may the terms “remembrance” and “abolition” may be problematic when you consider that people still live in slavery today throughout the world and continue to be trafficked for this purpose.
Regardless, it is critical that we remember and learn from the horrors of the past, which is one of the things I am aiming to highlight in my game. I haven’t released any updates in a while but I’m working hard on storylines, and working back from the end – I’ve realised that it doesn’t make sense to write this in a linear way!

Love the originality of this concept! Well done :)
Tumblr media
Your life isn’t going how you’d hoped. Despite having big plans when you graduated, you’re stuck in a dead end job and a crappy flat with zero romantic life to speak of. All until a friend convinces you to join the cast of a new reality TV show.
The premise is simple: 12 singles are sent to a villa on a tropical island and they live there together for a month. After 28 days, the couple who is voted by the other islanders as being most likely to withstand the test of time will win £500,000. In addition, the couple with the highest body count will win £500,000. Total prize pool? £1,000,000.
In this context, “body count” refers to how many people you’ve slept with… right? Well, that’s what you think when you sign your contract. Turns out, though, that not all of your fellow cast members will be using that definition to get to the prize.
Fall in love, win big money, solve some murders and try to stay alive.
Tumblr media
A fully customisable MC, from gender to appearance to personality.
A heavily character driven story, where you can build and break relationships with your fellow cast members and the show’s production team.
Find romance in the Body Count villa, with male, female and non-binary ROs.
The twist? No one is safe. Who dies? You decide. A reader vote will determine which characters fall victim to the villa killer.
Note: this game and blog will be strictly 18+! Consider yourselves warned xoxo

Looking good!
Art Assets Show and Tell Part 1!
Hi Tumblr!
So, as promised, here’s the first Art Assets Show and Tell post!
The art for Relics 2 is being created by the outstanding Matthew Ryan. To see more of his amazing work, you can visit his website here. He’s amazingly talented (as you’re about to see), his prices are very fair, and he’s a great collaborator so, if you have a WIP of your own or another project and you need an artist, consider this a whole-hearted recommendation: you should definitely consider Matt for the commission, you won’t be disappointed!
Below are the first batch of finished chapter headers, for chapters 1-4. We’re going with a different aesthetic to last time: we’re going with black and white line art, for that classic vintage 30s feel, and each chapter header includes an image of a significant location from that chapter. We have, in order, Harborough House, Canterbury Cathedral, the Moulin Rouge, and the Doge’s Palace.

I think they’re stunning and they suit the work really well. I’ll show off the other four when they’re finished!

WIP: The Search for Dr Livingstone
I proudly present my first WIP. I hope you like it!
Wordcount: 33k
Average playthrough: 21k
Update: 16/6: Added Tuesday’s journal
Summary
It’s 1869 and the British explorer Dr David Livingstone is missing in the interior of Africa. No one has heard from him for more than three years and it’s unknown whether he is alive or dead. The Times newspaper in London is sending you, a young aspiring journalist and adventurer, to follow in Livingstone’s footsteps and track down the man himself – if he’s still alive, that is.
You will mount an expedition into the heart of Africa. Along the way you’ll face inhospitable terrain, hostile tribes, Arab slavers, dangerous animals, and more. You’ll experience life in a typical African village, and have the chance to get to know the diverse members of your party better.
You’ll have to put together your expedition, taking into account the supplies, resources, and skills you need to give your expedition the best chance of success. On the expedition, you’ll need to decide how best to navigate the various threats and challenges along the way. Think carefully – not only the success of the expedition, but the lives of Dr Livingstone (and others) may depend on your choices.
But will you find Dr Livingstone in the end?
Highlights:
-Play as female, male, or non-binary
-Variable side characters with the choice to set genders and some names
-Develop your character including personality traits and skills, in order to set yourself up for a successful expedition
-Track your expedition’s assets and supplies, including food, medicine, and currency, so that you can make it to the end
-Team up with Arab slave traders or find your own way
-Face a lion barehanded
-Experience life in an African village in 1870
Warnings:
One of the aims of this book is to highlight a number of historical issues, including the East African slave trade. As such, slavery, racism, and other abhorrent practices are depicted openly.
This novel features:
* Abuse, including implied sexual abuse (nothing explicit)
* Slavery
* Racism and inequality
* Death (including avoidable NPC deaths)
* Violence and conflict, and descriptions of the aftermath of violence and conflict
* Harsh language
* Animal cruelty (nothing explicit)

June Update!
I won’t be releasing too much new content in the coming months because I’m working through certain storylines to the end of the book so that everything makes sense and ties together in the end.
For this reason, I will post monthly updates from now to keep you all posted on how everything is progressing.
Check out the WIP here and please leave me a note with comments and feedback – big or small, good or bad!
Coming next: I’ll aim to have an update out this month with the next Tuesday section, as well as a bit more of the main storyline that lets you get to know some of the characters better.

Why do you reblog your own fics so much?
Because someone might as well!? And look at this. Look. At. This.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Does this look right to you??
These are just the last three fics I wrote. I appreciate the likes, believe me I do, but you have to understand. Likes do nothing for content creators. It’s the reblogs. Because that’s how you find shit on your dashboard. Through reblogs. Not likes. This isn’t twitter or tiktok or instagram. This is a website that’s run by the reblog system.
Reblogging helps content creators put their stuff out there. Why do you think so many people stopped writing fanfic and creating beautiful fanart and edits? It’s because they put in hours of work and don’t get nearly enough notes for their masterpieces. Yes we do this because we enjoy it but like...some validation won’t hurt. A boost of confidence here and there might be all someone needs to finish whatever thing they started and left.
Anyway, I’m still going to reblog my shit...

A lot of writers don’t know what happens next in the piece. Others won’t start up a story unless they know exactly where everything goes.
A lot of writers have a million and one ideas and would trade anything for the focus to have just one. Others only have one and would kill for the chance to come up with something new.
A lot of writers feel they’re not doing enough. Others did so much they wrote themselves to burnout.
There are a lot of ways to write. A lot of different paths you can take. Each have their flaws and their strengths, much like the writers themselves. Don’t spend the energy comparing yourself, alright? Do what you have to for things to work for you.

Thank you to everyone who’s supported this work so far!
I originally planned to post a WIP by the end of March, but then I decided to make some major changes to the story format.
I also decided to do something completely different with the prologue, incorporating some awesome ideas that came up on the forums. This, combined with my day job being crazier than usual last month, meant I missed the deadline I set for myself.
But don’t worry, it will come - really looking forward to sharing the story with you all soon!

Time to introduce another of the companions you'll be taking on your journey:
The Captain - Jeffrey/Janet McKinsley
A retired captain of the British army of noble birth, Jeffrey/Janet McKinsley is the military leader of your expedition. Tall and broad-shouldered, they still carry themselves like a soldier, standing straight and to attention at all times.
However, they also walk with a slight limp, a legacy of their time in the Crimean war and it is not only physical scars that they carry from that conflict. They retired from the army a few years ago, and since then have been taking private commissions, where they bring their valuable experience with fighting and military strategy.
Will they be a good fit to take on your expedition?

One of the characters you'll meet on your journey to find Livingstone:
The Missionary - Germain/Germaine Parsons
Your expedition's medical expert, the missionary is deeply religious, ethical, empathetic, timid, and frankly a little odd. When you first meet them, most people take little notice of this thin, slight person with simple clothes and grey, thinning hair. However, behind that unassuming, quiet exterior is a past that you'd never expect.
Extremely devout, the missionary prays several times a day and this can interrupt other tasks, sometimes to the frustration of others. They carry a small bible with them at all times and relentlessly try to convert everyone they meet, including local tribespeople.
Their faith and righteousness is, in fact, a product of a very dark past which will be revealed as the journey progresses.

My first attempt on a Tumblr as I am attempting to write an interactive story about the search for Dr Livingstone in 1870 Africa. I hope to be able to produce a demo end of this month. Wish me luck!
