I'm still fresh to the capri fandom, so I have a question. Where does the surname "Vallis" come from for Damen? I don't recall that from canon, but I've seen it in a bunch of unrelated fics, I believe.

okay,, i do not know the exact fanfic origin of damen’s last name being Vallis but yes, it is not from canon. they don’t have last names in canon but i know for some reason and there is an explanation from pacat out there that when they were signing names in kings rising to show their alliance, they signed it Laurent R and Damianos V.

so i am assuming that many of us decided damen’s last name in fanfic would start with V and i don’t know again who started Vallis but that is his most popular last name! (also in google search that’s like one of the first V greek last names lol)

i like to think that both things can be true. that laurent did love damen and he didn't. which is so confusing and complicated because neither damen nor i understand how that could be true. how you could be with someone for a while and end it all just like that.

or maybe im just being hopeful? laurent loved him in a way that made him have to break up with damen because he knew he was causing damen suffering. a suffering damen didn't even know he was going through yet. and the reverse was true. that damen was also causing laurent suffering and damen didn't know that either, or at least he thought he didn't.

and to watch someone you love suffer because you don't love them enough or you don't love them in the way they deserve... doesn't that just hurt you both in the end?

so laurent did love damen. and he meant it when he said he wanted to be friends. because he loved damen.

but can they really be friends when damen would have to act so differently with him and everything was never going to be the same ever again. and damen would have to convince himself and laurent that he didn't want more.

i like to think that laurent loved damen so much that it hurt him that he couldn't give what damen was silently asking for, even if damen didn't know he was asking for it.

maybe sometimes you love people in different ways. and sometimes it's too much and sometimes it's not enough.

and if you really did love someone... you would never want to be the reason they're hurting, right?
