i make a lot of posts to the tune of "you're allowed to be horny btw" because it's becoming increasingly clear that adults being sexual in (clearly marked and blockable!) spaces is being stamped out and made out to be evil both legislatively and in the moral zeitgeist, especially among younger folks. not even in the "wait to be a horny adult online when you're An Adult" way, just an ingrained puritanical outrage response to *anything* that isn't chaste wholesome perfect all-ages allowed. it's unnerving and scary.

Honestly, I'm not that surprised the Morinagas are strained from Kunihiro as well. He's THE reason of that scandal with Misaki in the first place, even when public opinion placed the blame on Tetsuhiro. The Morinagas know but will never admit it out loud, so it's no wonder they keep Kunihiro at a certain emotional distance.

Kunihiro wasn't the reason. Kunihiro only walked in on them because there were already rumors going around about Morinaga and Masaki, so he went to check for himself. Though I question how he didn't notice and question why his best friend was spending so much time with his little brother.

The issue wasn't even with the Morinaga family as much as it was that Masaki was the son a of a politician so it really didn't make Masaki's family look good and so it was bad for the Morinaga's.

The Morinaga family is just depicted as a very typical, very standoffish, rich Japanese family. They seem to have never been a close family and kept their children at a distance. Their love is very conditional. They'll only love you as long as you're doing what they want and making them look good.

They're very focused on how people perceive them. Kunihiro was always the golden child who did everything their parents wanted him to do. He went to the schools they wanted him to go to, got the job they wanted him to get, got married because it was the proper thing to do, etc etc. He did everything their parents could brag about.... until he got divorced. Divorce doesn't make them look good... but it's more common than back in the day they can probably overlook that lol

Morinaga might be telling Kunihiro not to drop the bomb that he's dating Masaki to their parents but I'm here waiting for the explosion. You think they're cold now, you haven't seen anything yet.

It was 13 or 14 years ago. From what I remember you just shouldered aside the mastodons, went into the Tumblr cave and carved your mark on the wall, telling people you were now signed up for tumblr, and then they would haul memes on animal hides past you. Back then it was mostly cats doing amusing things, obviously, but we would watch them by the flickering firelight, and chortle to ourselves hopefully before leaving the cave and trudging back to our lives.

PSA: Don't use Open Office

I keep seeing people recommending Open Office as an alternative to Word, and uh... look, it is, technically, an open source alternative to Word. And it can do a lot of what Word can, genuinely! But it is also an abandoned project that hasn't been updated in nine years, and there's an active fork of it which is still receiving updates, and that fork is called LibreOffice, and it's fantastic.

Seriously, if you think that your choices are either "grit your teeth and pay Microsoft for a subscription" or "support free software but have a kind of subpar office suite experience", I guarantee that it's because you're working with outdated information, or outdated software. Most people I know who have used the latest version of LibreOffice prefer it to Word. I even know a handful of people who prefer it to Scrivener.

Open Office was the original project, and so it has the most name recognition, and as far as I can tell, that's really the only reason people are still recommending it. It's kind of like if people were saying "hey, the iPhone 14 isn't your only smart phone option!" but then were only ever recommending the Samsung Galaxy S5 as an alternative. LibreOffice is literally a version of the same exact program as Open Office that's just newer and better – please don't get locked into using a worse tool just because the updated version of the program has a different name!

So if you guys haven't heard, I have gone back to school in order to obtain a bachelor's degree. My school requires that I study abroad for the degree and so I have to study abroad to obtain my degree. I have been accepted into a summer program to attend a Japanese language school for intensive Japanese study this summer.

I have gotten scholarships to fund the actual program but I will be in Japan for a little over a month and will have to pay for all my own food and daily necessities and with the current savings I have, the budget might get a little tight. If any of you are able to donate even a bit it will be a huge help to me obtaining my degree.
