When does the worshipper reach the peak of taqwā?
‘Umar bin ‘Abd al-‘Azīz said:
“None can reach the state of taqwā until he possesses neither  actions nor words that can be exposed to his embarrassment, either in this world or the  Hereafter,”
and he was once asked: “When does the worshipper reach the peak of taqwā?”
So, he replied: “If he puts all the thoughts and desires in his heart on a plate and then wandered around  in the market, he should not feel ashamed of anything there.”
[‘Min Akhlāq as-Salaf’; p. 56

When Yusuf عليه السلام reunited with his father after a long seperation and he started telling Ya’qub عليه السلام about the things that had happened to him, how beautiful that he didn’t even mention his brothers throwing him into the well. He had already forgiven them for what they had done and he didn’t want to put them to shame by mentioning the incident of the well in any way. He swept the whole thing aside by saying his brothers wouldn’t do such a thing, rather, it was shaitaan who deceived them and caused the rift between them.
We learn from this, that when you have forgiven someone, the best thing to do is to never bring that incident up again nor shame a person by telling others about it.
