Happy Tamizh Puthhaandu to my fellow tamil tumblrinas! It has been a very productive day even though I woke up late. I did some DBMS theory for 3.5 hours, it's my weakest subject this semester. My brain is so muddled lol

28.02.24 I can't believe I'm back to these studying posts. I don't feel as excited as I expected. A chapter of my life is ending, and a new one is starting, but the new one has the taste of an old life I thought I had finally left behind. It's undeniable I'm moving forward because I'm not as I used to be. I carry with me bright memories. However, I must be careful not to fall back into old patterns. 'All this work and what did it get me?' - I'll find out soon enough.

i got overwhelmed and fell off the face of the earth again! the climb back is slow, but it is happening. last week it became clear i had ignored my undergrad thesis for too long, so i had a frenzied few days of producing something to show to my supervisor, which has now set me behind on everything else and left me in a big crunch for this week. but! i finally have a desk at home. no more studying on the dining table surrounded by food crumbs or commuting an hour into the library. gives me a small amount of hope to tackle 3 written assignments over the next couple of days.

fascinating that when you tell people "you have to learn the rules to break them" when talking about drawing/painting etc everyone nods and agrees but the second you say "you have to read books if you want to write better" there's a horde of contrarians begging to be the wrongest people ever all of a sudden

Things I did today:

Lesson prepped for tutoring

Studied for bio and did a practice quiz

Practice partial fractions (got very confused in the process)

Finished calculations for a chem lab

Finished my Anki cards for the day

Still have to submit some things and do some more practice for calculus and chemistry, but it’s going ok so far!

First week back (proper)!

Plenty of early mornings, driving chaos and welcome events to resume normal programming. All the lectures were as you'd expect: here's the module, here's the assignment...

Two society taster sessions, both game nights were I had to make up the rules of Pictionary and pretend I knew what I was doing.

The cinema was showing Anchorman for its 20th anniversary so you know I had to go - forgot how iconic Ron Burgundy is. Also didn't enjoy Mean Girls, I can imagine it works better as a stage musical but not on film imo.

Got to do my first campus tours for the open day (finally) - it was a relatively small one (for freezing cold January ig) so not many to do but hopefully more down the line.

Recently I've been trying this hip new thing called ✨work-life balance✨ where I draw a hard line between uni and home. And what do you know, it's working 🙃

12 february 2024, monday.

my classes will resume in 15 days!!! so i've decided to review some topics i studied in the past semesters. i'm going to focus on calculus 1 because i'll be taking classes on calculus 2. and since we have practical projects every semester, i've started a mini course on it project management too.

now i'm going to focus on reading the java textbook because i believe my professors will choose to use java to teach us the new subjects.

done list:

did 3 italian lessons on duolingo

reviewed flashcards

did a summary on math functions

did half of the first chapter of the it project management course (why does it have to be sooooo long?)

study session in an unusual location (my mom's workplace)

instead of buying expensive textbooks that i might not use much or straining my eyes by reading pdfs digitally, i got the idea to print out the chapters that i need and it's a life changer!
