The desire to knit a tam versus the fear I'll look silly in it.

Freehanded another hat using handspun yarn my wife dyed. Used the same earfkap principle as with the pumpkin hat, but went top down because of the unpredictable gauge.

Finally managed to finish this baby hat!
I first tried a cotton merino blend but it didn't have enough stretch and bounce. I also kept messing up the stitch pattern.
Then the dk yarn I tried was too bulky. I wanted a hat for spring weather. Nippy spring weather. It's a nipple hat but that's unrelated I just realised the pun potential.
Then I used this leftover fingering weight yarn and it worked! It's called Little red riding hood, lol.
I decided to forgo the stitch pattern because I kept making mistakes.
I do love the short rows in the band. I love doing short rows and I love protecting little ears so, perfect match.

On and off the loom.
Weaving the second part of what will hopefully become a nice poncho.

This ended up feeling too bulky for what I want, so back into the stash it goes.

Knitting while waiting for my wife to return from their dentist appointment. I think I'm going to frog it, thought. I'm using a 50/50 merino cotton blend and it's got no bounce at all. I don't like it for a baby hat. Big fan of the ear flap short rows though, so time for a stash dive to find a better yarn.

One sock down!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Been a while since I knit a sock off a pattern but I liked the atypical gusset of these Paper Moon Socks.
Alas, I made a lot of progress on the train where I didn't get a chance to put the sock on.
Despite me hitting gauge exactly, and picking the smallest size, it's too big 😅 Going to rip back and start the gusset at the pink marker now. Ideally I should maybe start over at a smaller circumference as well but I don't wanna.

Hello! I have so mamy doubts regarding knitting and crocheting. My 10yo wants to learn to do amigurumis, but... where can we start? What size of needle we need as a starter? Hope you can help us, any aevice is good.
Hi! How fun to start crochet with your daughter!
I don't know much about crochet or amigurimi. I only learned a little bit of crochet as a child :) You don't need needles for crochet though, only crochet hooks.
My advice would be to contact your local yarn shop for advice. Maybe they do classes or workshops, or maybe they're willing to show you the basics when you're in the shop. Or if you don't have a shop, you could ask around to see if there's anyone who can show you the ropes. There are a lot of online resources around, but sometimes, as a beginner, you're stuck and it doesn't look right, but you've no clue how to phrase what's going wrong. Having someone around who can take a look at what you're doing and go "Ah see, you're twisting the wrong way" is what you need then.
I'm publishing this so any followers with more concrete advice can contact you!

This yarn doesn't seem to be very colourfast.

Haven't gotten the hang of supported spinning yet, and I also didn't have anything I felt like was a good base for spinning on. I tried several cups and plates in the house to no avail.
Someone told me to take the spindle to a thrift shop and try all the egg cups there. I did and tadah! This one seems to keep the spindle going for a long time, and it can be balanced in my lap. Hopefully I'll get the hang of it now.
