Best wishes to all on Maha Shiva Ratri - 2021
Tumblr media
Vasistha to Lord Shiva:
"Lord, though by your grace I have reached the state of self-fulfillment, I am eager to know more about one thing. Pray enlighten me. What is the method of worshiping the Lord which destroys all sins and promotes all auspiciousness?"
The Lord said:
"Do you know who God is?"
"God is not Vishnu, Shiva or Brahma; not the wind, the sun or the moon; not the brahmana or the king; nor I nor you; not Lakshmi nor the mind (intellect)."
"God is without form and undivided; that splendor (devanam) which is not made and which has neither beginning nor end is known as God (Deva) or Lord Shiva which is Pure Consciousness."
"That alone is fit to be worshipped; and that alone is all. If one is unable to worship this Shiva (Consciousness) then he is encouraged to worship the form.
The latter yields finite results but the former bestows infinite bliss. He who ignores the infinite and is devoted to the finite abandons a pleasure-garden and seeks the thorny bush. However, sages sometimes worship a form playfully."
"Now for the articles used in the worship: Wisdom, Self-control and the Perception of the Self in all beings are the foremost among those articles."
"The Self (Consciousness) alone is Lord Shiva who is fit to be worshiped at all times with the flowers of Wisdom."
(I asked the Lord: Pray tell me how this world is transmuted into Pure Consciousness and also how that Pure Consciousness appears as the jiva and other things. The Lord continued:)
"Indeed only that cid-akasha (the Infinite Space of Consciousness), which alone exists even after the cosmic dissolution, exists even now, utterly devoid of objectivity.
The concepts and notions that are illumined by the Consciousness within itself shine as this Creation, on account of the movement of Energy within Consciousness, precisely as dreams arise during sleep.
Otherwise, it is totally impossible for an object of perception to exist outside of the Omnipresent Infinite Consciousness."
"Even as the duality experienced in dream is illusory, the duality implied in the creation of the world is illusory.
Even as the objects seem to exist and function in the inner world of Consciousness in a Dream, objects seem to exist and function in the outer world of Consciousness during the Wakeful state.
Nothing really happens in both these states.
Even as Consciousness alone is the Reality in the Dream state, Consciousness alone is the Substance in the Wakeful state too.
That is the Lord,
That is the Supreme Truth,
That You Are,
That I Am and
That is All."

G: What is your source of light?
D: During the day it is the sun and at night, it is lamp, etc.
G: Yes, it is. Tell me, what light is the means of seeing the sun and the lamp
D: It is the eye.
G: At the time of shutting the eyes, etc., what is the light?
D: It is intellect.
G: What is the source of light for the intellect?
D: It is “I”, the Self (Awareness)
G: Therefore, your own Self (Awareness) is the light of lights (or the Supreme light).
D: Yes, O Lord, I am That Supreme Light (Awareness)

Let all my speech be your prayer; let all my crafts and technology be your worship and be the mystic gestures of my hand, adorning you.
May all my movements become your devotional circumambulations.
May everything I eat or drink be oblations to you. Let my lying down in rest and sleep be prostrations to you.
Mother! Whatever I do, may all that become a sacramental service and worship for you.

Guided Self Enquiry
Tumblr media
Teacher: Please look at the flower in front of us.
Student: Okay.
Teacher: Where exactly do you experience it?
Student: In the garden.
Teacher: Not the physical location, but the place of experience. The light rays are converted into electrical signals in your body and then your mind sees it. So, you experience it within you. Do you follow?
Student: Yes, I understand the basic physics and since mind is part of me who is looking at the image of the flower, so I am looking at the flower within me.
Teacher: Good, now how far is your Awareness from the flower?
Student: Well, my Awareness is right there where flower is. There is no gap between my Awareness and the flower.
Teacher: Can you now close your eyes and imagine the same flower. Now, how far is Awareness from the flower?
Student: Same as before. Whether eyes are open or close, there is no gap between my Awareness and the flower.
Teacher: Great! Awareness takes the shape of the flower. Now, how far are you from the Awareness?
Student: I am there where my Awareness is. There is no gap between myself and the Awareness.
Teacher: Excellent, since there is no gap between you and the Awareness, is there anything else that you realise?
Student: Well, let me think for a moment……. This is amazing! I am the Awareness.

Swami Sarvapriyananda speaks on the Advaita Makaranda – The Nectar of Non-duality – of Sri Lakshmidhara Kavi.
The text points to our present experience – the experience of the ordinary soul – and shows how the highest truth is revealed even here, if only we look.
Precise and direct pointers.

CONVERSATIONS WITH ANNAMALAI SWAMI
This waking life is just a long dream which keeps our attention away from what we really are. If you take the attitude that all the happenings in the world are dream events, your mind becomes tranquil. It is only when you take the dream world to be real that you get agitated.
Q: I feel strongly that life is a long dream but I cannot see through the dream. For many years it has been like this.
AS: If you really believed that all life was a dream, nothing in the world would ever trouble you. If you still have problems and worries, like not being able to see through the dream, it means that you have still not completely ceased to identify with what temporarily appears in your consciousness.
You should inquire, 'Who is not able to penetrate through the dream?’
The true ‘I’ is not identified with the dream. If you don't forget your real Self, waking, dreaming, and sleeping do not affect you.
The things around you are always changing, but what we really ARE remains changeless.

YOU ARE THE UNIVERSE
What you do is what the whole universe is doing at the place you call "here and now," and you are something the whole universe is doing in the same way that a wave is something that the whole ocean is doing.
You are a function of what the whole universe is doing in the same way that a wave is a function of what the whole ocean is doing.
You didn't come into this world; you came out of it. Like a wave from the ocean.
We do not "come into" this world; we come out of it, as leaves from a tree. As the ocean "waves," the universe "peoples."
Every individual is an expression of the whole realm of nature, a unique action of the total universe.
You are an aperture through which the universe is looking at and exploring itself.
Through our eyes, the universe is perceiving itself. Through our ears, the universe is listening to its harmonies.
We are the witnesses through which the universe becomes conscious of its glory, of its magnificence.
You, yourself, are the eternal energy which appears as this Universe.
The real you is not a puppet which life pushes around. The real deep-down you is the whole universe.
Basically, there is simply nothing to worry about, because you yourself are the eternal energy of the universe.
You are the universe experiencing itself.

KARMA YOGA - NON DOERSHIP
Tumblr media
All actions are being done by the forces of nature, but a human being deluded by the I-sense imagines, “I am the doer.”
They who sees that all actions are performed by nature alone and thus that they are not the doer—they see truly.
The Self - Consciousness, abides as the heart of all beings, O Arjuna, causing all beings to act by it's power of Maya, as if they are mounted on a machine.

"Most people take the appearance of the snake in the rope to be reality. Acting on their misperceptions, they think up many different ways of killing the snake. But they can never succeed in getting rid of the snake until they first give up the idea that there really is a snake there.
People who want to kill or control the mind have the same problem: they imagine that there is a mind which needs to be controlled and then take drastic steps to beat it into submission.
If, instead, they generate the understanding that there is no such thing as mind, all their problems would come to an end.
You must generate the conviction, ‘I am the all-pervasive Consciousness in which all bodies and minds in the world are appearing and disappearing. I am that Consciousness which remains unchanged and unaffected by these appearances and disappearances.’
Stabilise yourself in that conviction. That is all you need to do."

Meditation with Open Eyes
Each object of experience has five aspects, Asti Bhati Priyam Nama Rupa [i.e., Existence, Consciousness, Bliss, Name and Form].
Consider any object. It has five aspects.
1. It is - Existence
2. It shines or is known - Consciousness
3. It is dear - Bliss
4. It has a name - Name
5. It has a form - Form
The first three aspects are Brahman, and the other two, the Universe.
The first three aspects are real, being eternally self-shining, whereas Name and Form are unreal aspects, since they merely seem to exist, they appear and disappear, and are changing ever moment, depending upon the illumination of Asti Bhati Priyam - Existence Consciousness Bliss.
The movie of names and forms is being projected as waking, dream and deep sleep experiences on the screen of Brahman - Existence Consciousness Bliss.
The Screen is real being ever present, the experiences or pictures of names and forms ,unreal, since they appear and disappear.
You are the Screen, The eternal screen of Infinite Existence Consciousness. You are That.
What is Meditation?
Meditation means dhyan - paying attention.
Meditation is to shift our attention from the Name and Form aspects and focus it on the Existence Consciousness Bliss aspects.
Consider any 'external' object , wether seen, heard, smelt, tasted, touched. Or consider any 'internal' object, wether thought, feeling, desire, emotion, memory, intellect or the I-Sense.
Notice the five aspects of the object and shift focus from the Name and Form and pay attention or become aware of the Existence Consciousness aspects. The Bliss aspect will be revealed intuitively.
Notice that the Existence Consciousness Bliss aspect is single, all pervading, unchanging, while the Names and Forms are many, changing, appearing and disappearing.
Aum peace peace peace.
