The Birth of a Nation (1915) Crazy Credits
The following was listed in the opening credits: A PLEA FOR THE ART OF THE MOTION PICTURE: We do not fear censorship, for we have no wish to offend with improprieties or obscenities, but we do demand, as a right, the liberty to show the dark side of wrong, that we may illuminate the bright side of virtue - the same liberty that is conceeded to the art of the written word - that art to which we owe the Bible and the works of Shakespeare.

Cinema is a branch of human activity consisting in the creation of moving images. The name is borrowed from the device of the same name, invented by the Lumiere brothers, and which laid the foundation for the commercial use of technology. Cinema was invented at the end of the 19th century and became extremely popular in the 20th century.
The concept of cinema includes cinema art - a type of modern fine art whose works are created using moving images, and the film industry - an industry that produces films, special effects for films, animation, and demonstrates these works for viewers.
Cinema occupies a significant part of the modern culture of many countries. In many countries, the film industry is a significant economic sector. Motion picture production is focused on film studios.
The beginning of the distribution of cinema in its modern form was laid by the filming and public demonstration of the first short films. On March 22, 1895, in Paris, the Lumiere brothers first demonstrated their “cinematography”, on November 1 the same year in Berlin M. Skladanovsky demonstrated his “bioscope”, and on December 28 the first commercial session was held in the Grand Cafe salon on Kapucinok Boulevard .
“Silent” cinema reaches its peak by the 20s of the 20th century, when it is already quite formalized as an independent art form, which has its own artistic means.
