well fam...has it been a minute or what? i realized i was getting more anxious to upload, because it seemed all too daunting. i have accepted that this will inevitably be a subpar rewind just because oh so much happened. and after this year i hope to get back to more frequent posts. any waayyy...

music.

‘world’ by seventeen. AKA SONG OF THE SUMMER. AKA OWNER OF MY HEART. AKA THE BESTEST TRACK EVER. it literally is full of sunshine and rainbows. it cures any ailment. i freaking love this, fills me for breakfast, lunch and dinner. it is the absolute best track. and it fills my heart. 10 out of 10 recommend.

seventeen. literally their whole discography. i had the immense pleasure to see them live during their north american tour. all i can say is that it was such a unique experience. listening to their music since debut, watching their survival show, and seeing them grow. it was wild to just see them, because when i first got into k-pop i never thought i would be able to experience a live show without going to korea. then to see the first group that got me into k-pop, host an arena tour…i was so emotional seeing them in real life. like we are talking ugly crying level. 

‘slam the door’ by ciipher. a complete an utter bop. thank you to ‘yoshified’ on youtube, because dang this person really recommends the best tracks. and i would never have had a complete summer playlist without this. 

‘scared’ by p1harmony. let me start by saying this was noisy but it an absurdly good way. like oh my goodness they just came for me like that.

nayeon. our queen. ‘pop’ and ‘no problem’ on repeat. we stan. (p.s. ready for jihyo’s solo) 

monsta x. ‘whispers in the dark’ and ‘if with u’ also on repeat. all the time. 

onlyoneof. the single tracks that they’ve released. i am in love with ‘be free’ by KB, and ‘begin’ by yu jung. and the music videos and the intertwining storylines, like yes please and thank you. 

newjeans. ‘you got me looking for AATTTTEEENNTTTIOOOOON’ catch me screaming their lyrics at the top of my lungs. the way they dropped their singles, like woah hold up. ‘hype boy’ definitely a favorite track. and ‘cookie’ is never played it makes me immensely uncomfy. i hope they stick to chill appropriate concepts, because come on hybe…

blackpink. the queens have returned and this album…controversial opinion….the title tracks were not it, but the B-sides. fammmmm these slayed it. catch me crying in the bathroom, i love them. 

‘after like’ by ive. how can they always release bops, and the b-side ‘satisfaction’ like come on stunning. 

’24/7’ by DKB. this track. i love that it comes in with the chorus. i freaking love it. 

‘my type’ by brb. this is a new group i discovered and love them. technically not k-pop, it’s in english, they are from singapore but i couldn’t not include because the vibes are there. and it sounds heavily influenced by k-r&b and i am here for it.

‘excuses’ by twlv. another chill bop. like this dude has an incredible voice, and he could sing my grocery list and i would love it. 

‘sexy nukim’ feat. RM by balming tiger. FAM. when this song dropped i was like WOOOAHHHHH. these artists’ style and groove, i can’t get over it. thank you namjoon for collaborating with them and putting them on my radar, because they pass the vibe check. 

‘us’ by moon jong up. randomly stumbled upon this gem, and i am so sad that there is not more content from this stunning human. 

‘mascara’ by XG. it’s a bop, i scream it. ‘baby girl don’t you ever be wasting your good energy’ like amen honey!

‘talk that talk’ by twice. it’s twice you know its gonna be a bop. the dance addicting. 

dramas & movies *spoilers ahead*

my mister. i would give this drama a 9 out of 10. we follow dong-hun who is really going through it, like bad. like his wife is having an affair with his boss, and his family is a mess. his brothers live with his mother, and they are kind of subpar not doing the most. he meets ji-an a young girl in a difficult situation, she is being harassed by loan sharks. things get shady when she comes to find out about the affair, and uses it to blackmail the vice president and she has to get dong-hun to leave the company. she obviously doesn’t go through with it, but fates get tangled, and i would be lying if i said i was upset that our main actors didn’t get up together. but i understand why, they learned a lot from each other. it was tragic, raw, and everything you want in a melodramatic drama. 

tomorrow. fam i started this drama for rowoon, but i finished it for soohyuk because dang….we follow jun-woong who is struggling to get a job after school but ends up in a coma and meets grim reapers. they come up with a plan to get him back to the world of the living by helping the crisis management team. this team’s goal is to save suicidal people. i loved the dynamics between the team, and i loved the ending of this drama. i would give this drama a 9 out of 10. i loved the style of it, each episode being a new situation and issue to solve. this was a difficult drama to watch at times, it obviously covers the trigger topics of suicide, domestic violence, and depression. the concept was unique and i loved how they offered reasonable ways to overcome and get necessary help. i loved the relationship that was unpacked between koo ryeon and joong-gil because it went so far back, and his choice to completely forget it because the situation pained him so much. but she remembered it all. i recall my heart breaking into a million pieces as their story unfolded towards the end. like there were not enough tissues to rescue all the tears.

like literally look at the way he looks at her. let me weep.

sh**ting stars. this drama was a 10 out of 10 cute fun summer drama. we are in the entertainment world with our girl han-byeol (lee sung kyung) as our leader of the PR team, and she actively manages gong tae-sung (king young-dae). he is the top actor, and their relationship is everything. she starts the drama unable to tolerate him, because she has known him since college. we come to find that he has always had feelings for her, and little misunderstandings had driven them apart. but my goodness you know that by the end of the drama they were together, and sooooo stinking cute. i loved their interactions. i also freaking loved how everyone ended up happy! like our second male lead was no second male lead, he got his own happy ending. and i loved the coworkers that ended up together in this drama too. like yes we stan character development all around! it was great!

sound of magic. i don’t know what i expected, but dang it was a musical and outright wild at times. i gave it a 9 out of 10. yoon a-yi is a high school student working hard to support her sister. she doesn’t have a supportive father because loan sharks drove him out of the home. na il-deung (hwang inyeop) competes with her to be top of the class. he likes her (obviously). our girl stumbles upon an amusement park and meets a magician there. he encourages her to believe in magic, and a quite odd relationship ensues. definitely not going to lie it was on my radar because my hwang inyeop is in it, and literally anything and everything he touches is gold to me. but it was incredible, and i loved all that they did in this drama, though it was short lived, i hope they will continue this story. 

yumi’s cells 2. i was hyped fam. really hyped about it. like yes ba-bi (jinyoung), he is our man. we stan, we love. men fail. he failed us, and i’m not going to lie did that bump my rating down to a 7…yes. yess it did. once again we follow our girl yumi, in her life through work, pursuing her dream of writing. achieving her goals. and seeing ba-bi be absolute trash. so yeah. i hate ba-bi and if anyone asks i never liked him. i am ready for season 3 to come through and give us a happy ending. i am deserving of this after surviving this long, only to be betrayed by ba-bi. 

dear m. FINALLY i got to see this gem after waiting forever (only) to see it. so sad about the delayed release because it would surely have taken over everything if it was a live drama. i loved the concept of always trying to figure out who ‘M’ was, and it looking like it was anyone and everyone. we follow joo-a who has been besties with min-ho (jaehyun) for forever, and they are at university together. we follow their university struggles as they get through the semester, and we meet their roomates, who are all great. and i loved that we got to see all their personalities develop and grow. there was also immense growth from joo-a, which we love to see. i loved all the characters we got to meet. and seeing jaehyun freaking slay, i stan. i would rate this an 8.5 out of 10.

weathering with you. this was an anime that i watched and it was stunning. i loved the concept. a high schooler runs away from home to tokyo. he befriends a girl who has the power to control the weather. it wrecked me emotionally and i loved it. i would give it a 7

studio ghibli: my neighbor totoro, ponyo, howl’s moving castle, spirited away. not me rewatching these studio ghibli titles. they are always a 10 out of 10 recommend. 

why her. once again hwang inyeop. my man coming through with the dramas that will make me cry. in this drama, we follow oh soo-jae a freaking boss lawyer. like the youngest partner at the best law firm in korea. she is driven out and gets demoted to be a professor at a law school. gong chan is a student there and it turns out they had met in the past. he was wrongly accused of murder and she was his public defendant, she was the only one who believed in him. but it turns out that she didn’t give the case her all as the defendant. but he knows her true intentions, and how she was blackmailed by the political moves happening. they all work together along with other students in their law clinic to uncover the truth. it was really frustrating/infuriating at times, because the head of the law firm is absolute utter garbage and the things he did were AWFUL. but overall i loved this drama. a 9 out of 10 recommend. 

the uncanny counter. i loved this one. we follow so mun who gets possessed by a spirit that rescues people on the verge of death, to hunt down evil spirits. these fellow counters operate out of a noodle shop. and we meet our crew of unlikely heroes here. i loved how they were a found family, and they all come together in various situations. there were so many hilarious laugh out loud moments imbedded in this quite sad theme. se-jeong is the best and i picked this one for her. i would rate it an 8.5 out of 10.

extraordinary attorney woo. if there was ever a green light drama this would be the one. a 10 out of 10 recommend. it was so precious, and i loved all the characters that we met. we follow woo young-woo an incredible bright individual who happens to be on the autism spectrum. she starts working at a law firm, and this brings about the best and worst in others. each episode was a new case, and we got to see her unique perspective on conquering each case. we also saw her relationships with others in the hanbada office. freaking fell in love with lee jun-ho, and her bestie from university yoon-kyung. they were always looking out. and we loved the character development that happened with their coworker joo jong-hyuk. this one shall get it’s own recap. because i have so many feelings and favorite moments. 

alchemy of souls. when i say i didn’t know what to do with my life when this gem of a drama ended, i literally did not know what to do. it was a top tier drama for me. like the characters, the set design, the world building. it has it all. it shall too have its own recap, because dang, too much happened and i am not emotionally ready for december. i would 10 out of 10 recommend. we follow jang-uk from a noble family, rejected by the skilled teachers. he stumbles upon mu-deok, who happens to be naksu an elite warrior/assassian trapped in mu-deok’s physically weak body. she decides to be his master and teach him fighting skills. a lot of crazy nonsense goes down, and so many plot twists happen. and i freaking loved it. i loved the character development especially from out naksu and wanting to put others around her first. like yes queen.

spring 2022 rewind.

i’ve decided maybe a more quarterly rewind may be more fitting more me in this upcoming season of life. don’t get me wrong, still living and breathing the k-drama and k-pop life, but i was putting a lot of pressure on myself to compile every month, and the joy was not in it anymore. so here we are... 

favorites from february, march, and april 2022...

music.

‘run2u’ by stayc. this song ruled my playlist when it initally came out, honestly not so much anymore. i was debating even putting it in the rewind, because it kind of went stale. 

‘maniac’ by stray kids. this comeback, our boys never disappoint. this dance, the online presence, our tiktok kings. yes and yes. also loved ‘venom’. 

‘invu’ by taeyeon. now this song, inital listen did not vibe with me, but dang after a few listens you best believe i am screaming ‘I N V U’ at the top of my lungs. 

‘ganadara (feat. iu)’ by jay park. it’s a bop and i love how sweet iu’s vocals are, she is not a queen for nothing. 

‘daydream’ by highlight. i freaking love this track. the beat, the vocals, the snaps. i am here for it. 10 out of 10. 

‘again’ by nu’est. i was never into this group, but a few of their title tracks. but my goodness, the nostalgia that this song holds is unparalleled. 

‘stay’ by onewe & oneus. i love it, and yes i know it’s a winter/christmas song but i just found it and i love it. so here it is. 

‘your existence’ by wonstein. ‘miss you....’ the track is *chef’s kiss*, the feelings it evokes 10 out of 10. the nostalgia, the longing, the excitement, it is everything. i love this dude’s voice, how it is soft but full at the same time. 

nct dream. their ‘glitch mode’ comeback, super cute and cool and i loved the choreography. my favorite track would have to be ‘arcade’!

‘love dive’ by ive. i don’t know why but their comeback slayed. i wish their entertainment company would do more to share the center/vocal space. because as a liz bias i need more to cater and show all of the groups talent and skill not just a few...but to no fault of the members. i stan. 

‘darl+ing’ by seventeen. an english track. we stan multi-lingual kings. also this mv is so freaking aesthetically pleasing. i love it, every single second. they’re also the cutest boyssss and i love them. not going to lie, at first listen i was not aware it was an english track, and i listened very early in the morning and for a moment i thought i knew korean...then it hit me ‘oh wait, it’s in english’. 

‘feel my rhythm’ by red velvet. this vocal line, i have come to appreciate greatly since finding ‘react to the k’ a classical musicians react channel. and i freaking love how insane their vocal line is; like 10 out of 10. 

‘like water’ by wendy. literally, one reactor stated ‘she uses her voice like an instrument’ and i cannot get it out of head how perfect of a descriptor that is, because it is so true! and this track now lives rent free in my head. 

‘i don’t want u back’ by i’ll. i love this man’s voice. and i am so happy that i have found this song. because the track is built with nostalgia. (i guess that has been the theme for the past few months :) )

‘snooze’ by lucy. they have a freaking violinist, need i say more. 

dramas & movies *spoiler alert*.

F4: thailand. this was great. i loved that we got an episode every week, and that it was free on youtube. thank you very much producers. i loved how we got to see the similar story placed in different settings/cultures. i loved our gorya, she played her perfectly. though there were characters we knew we would hate, we loved to hate them. and our side characters/ plot had great chemistry. still freaking hate that she ended up with the main lead, i loved the second male lead as always. 7.5 out of 10. 

our beloved summer. this was cute. slow. kind of took me forever to finish. but i know that the slow burn plot was the point, because it was them learning to trust again, but i definitely was not in the mood for it at the time. but otherwise. cute. and there were great moments. 7 out of 10. 

twenty-five, twenty-one. 1000000 out of 10. incredible. stunning. show stopping. never been seen before. forever a top drama. i loved the characters. literally fell in love. all of them. they did a fabulous job and i really need to make it’s own post because i have so many thoughts and feelings for this one. because it will forever live rent free in my mind. 

forecasting love and weather. so like, the potential was there (hello, song kang and park min-young), but it lacked chemistry. i think this opinion is heavily influenced by the dramas that i watched/were released about the same time (i.e. 25-21, business proposal) because dang their chemistry was off the charts. though our actors were great, at times the script was not full, and there was a lot of unnecessary side plots that were never resolved. so yeah....6 out of 10. 

snowdrop. stunning and heart breaking. and i am still processing all that happened. i am stunned how this quite long drama only truly took place over a few days. and i loved the way it was written and the journey we went on. it was a lot to process while watching it and it took me a while to finish, definitely not one to binge this type of trauma infused drama. it was a stunning debut for jisoo, working alongside hae-in. 

business proposal. this was so freaking cute. i loved how cute and sweet this one was, and predictable. because my heart needed mending after the heart break in 25-21. i loved the main leads, but hello the second leading couple has my heart as well. 9 out of 10.

2022 January Rewind.

Music. 

‘Nostalgia’ by JUNNY and JAY B. The track stunning and chill. I absolutely love how their voices meld together. 10 out of 10 recommend. 

‘Love one day’ by Luna. I thoroughly enjoyed this drama OST, that it made it to my top songs of the month. I love Jun’s voice in this track especially. 

‘Blessed-Cursed’ by ENHYPEN. It is a bop. The 90s vibes are strong with this comeback. The choreography video…ICONIC. The outfits…ICONIC. 

‘Eleven’ by IVE. Now, I am not one to get into girl groups, but this track stood out man. LOVE THIS TRACK. “One, two, three, four, five six, seven…you make me feel like eleven.”

Eric Nam. I am getting ready to vibe in person to this wonderful human. All of his tracks old and new are on repeat. From his latest EP ‘There And Back Again’ my favorites are: ‘Any Other Way’, ‘Wildfire’, and ‘What If’.

ONEWE. Literally this group can do no wrong. They are phenomenal. All of their tracks from old-to-new. I loved their latest album. And will always recommend giving them a listen.

‘DM’ by fromis_9. Another ICONIC stage. Absolutely fell in love with this live vocal version. 

‘Ordinary (feat. OLNL & BIG Naughty)’. I love this track. The way that their voices meld together. And that change of key at the bridge. YES 100 OUT OF 10 recommend. 

‘Feelin’ Like’ by PENTAGON. A bop and we love to see this because honestly the last track that I truly freaking loved from this group was ‘Shine’ so I love to see it. 

Dramas & movies *spoiler alert*. 

‘Where Stars Land’. This was a unique concept, definitely have not watched to a drama like this one before. We follow Soo-Yeon who works at Incheon International Airport and give himself six months to work there and keeps his distance from everyone there. He meets Yeo-Reum who is a new employee in the service team. They end up working closely together, and Yeo-Reum comes to discover a secret about Soo-Yeon, he has bionic arm. (Still do not quite understand how this such is deilema for everyone that finds out about his arm/leg...but I digress). This leads to interesting conversations and a unique need to protect each other. I loved how they work together not only in the business realm but protecting each other in the relationships they hold with other people. Honestly started this drama because RoWoon is a part of the cast, but I also love Je-Hoon from ‘Move to Heaven’ and was greatly intrigued to see him in this type of role. I would give it an 8.5 out fo 10. 

Horimiya. I watched this anime with my best friend and it was SOOOO CUTE. We follow Kyouko Hori and Izumi Miyamura. They are opposites. Kyouko is a popular girl at school, and Izumi appears distant to his classmates. But a fateful encounter sets them up for a strong friendship. Izumi is a bad boy with a man bun we love him. They end up spending a lot of time together in Hori’s home, and they both emerge from their shells of people who they are at school. I would give it an 8 out of 10. It was definitely too short of anime, and I WANT MORE. 

‘Let Me Be Your Knight’. Loved this drama. We follow the idol group LUNA, as their lead singer Tae-In struggles with sleepwalking disorder. Our girl Yoon-Joo acts as a tour guide but gets involved as the management company of LUNA mistakes her for a doctor. She keeps up the act because she is desperate to pay off a massive debt. Yoon-Joo moves in with the LUNA members Lee Shin, Yoo-Chan, Ga-On, and Woo-Yeon. I also must mentioned that our cast is STAR STUDDED. All of these lovely men are a part of other idol groups, WE STAN. We go through all the twists and turns as she works to cure Tae-In’s illness, essentially curing it through becoming friends and becoming a person in which he can rely upon. I love how their relationship develops it’s a slow burn. I also throughly love the side plots and friendships that she develops with the other members of the group. I would give this drama a 9.5 out of 10. (Side note: these OSTs were top tier and I absolutely loved them immensely)

rewind 2021: october, november, & december

well here we are….just a collection from the end of the year because i am sooo late.

music.

‘the feels’ by twice. you know i did my darn best to learn this choreography. it is such a fun pop bop. and it is great. i love it. 

‘rock with you’ by seventeen. it is solid just like the entire comeback. i particularly love this track. and i love the feeling of jumping straight into the song. 

kai’s comeback. ‘to be honest’ & ‘peaches’ on rotation. i freaking love kai and his smooth vocals and choreo that he always delivers. 

nct comeback. all my boys (minus two) all in one place. i love these comebacks. and i loved these track videos. ‘miracle’ hello! oh honey the album has been on repeat. each and every track. i loved it, and cannot express how proud of these boys i am. 

‘killing me’ by chung ha.

onewe. this group just came out of nowhere. and by golly goodness i am so glad i stumbled upon them. they are versatile and the duality is top tier. some top tracks include ‘AuRoRa’, ‘veronica’, ‘end of spring’, ‘reminisce about all’, ‘parting’. also their live versions are *chef kiss*. 10 out of 10 recommend checking them out. and did i mention they’re a band and play instruments. *swoons*

‘one day’ by monstax. ‘they say hindsight is 20/20….’ just let me sit in a puddle of tears. 

‘alright’ by ares carter & bumkey.

ateez comeback. my boys they’re back. they are sooooo freaking good. i love ‘turbulence’, ‘be with you’, and they freaking put the overture on there!! i cannot. 

jeebanoff. he is always a favorite but i finally discovered his album released earlier this year and my goodness ‘void’ is too good not to include in a rewind.

dramas & movies. *spoilers ahead*

unforgettable love. this was a great drama. that was cute and had a happy ending for everyone! the little kid that truly drew me into the show was fabulous. he was comedic relief as well as a unique edition for a drama where the focus was on him and helping his psychological well being. i absolutely loved the resolutions throughout. and her best friend and her boyfriend definitely became a favorite of mine. bc of the character transformation he experienced. and i love how raw she was when he was confessing his feelings, she was like will you still take me with all these broken pieces and bruises. and he was like yes girl i will build you a house to keep you safe and protected so you can rest. cue the tears. i would rate this a 7 out of 10. 

police university. jinyoung my dude is back. and this was a great one. we followed his character seon-ho a former hacker with a hidden criminal record, meet dong-man a detective that arrested him years prior at the national police academy. we follow them as they work together and eventually become friends in a mentorship, hunting down the criminals of a deep case involving the police and the university. and of course we have our girl, krystal, who seonho meets at a judo match and they end up in the same class at university. i enjoyed this one, rating it a 8.5 out of 10

hometown chachacha. this was a top tier drama. from the cast of characters, and life that they depicted was rich with various layers. we got to see so many different character and got a piece of all of their lives. and i especially loved each and every moment we had with our dimple couple. a favorite moment was when her friend says i may be jumping ahead but we should keep to two kids you know. and he is like the only thing i can think about today is skipping a few bases and kisses her. i would give this drama a 10 out of 10. and i will leave you with wisdom from harmoni ‘look around yourself closely and you’ll realize that you’re surrounded by many precious things. everyday is full of so much excitement as if i’m going on a picnic the next day.’

my name this drama ripped my heart out and stomped on it. nevertheless, it was a great drama, with plot twists i did not predict. the whole drama had me on the edge of my seat. from a young age her life was turned upside down, followed by the police to track down her father who she was led to believe was a gang member. turned out to be undercover, and was killed off by the gang boss she currently worked for. and every good thing she had in life, was in essence ripped away from her by this man. pul-do finally being her safe place, he knew the whole story of her actually being undercover from the gang, and wanted to protect her. when he called her name, it was probably the first time in years she heard it. and he brought her to the beach. literally so many tears. she loved him, and the boss saw that. so she had to take revenge again, because she had come to the conclusion that the biggest betrayal would be to use the law against him. but instead she had to face him head on. and with all the deaths that happened when she hesitated another precious person died, the only one that completely understood her. like pul-do had the look in his eyes that no matter what, he was going in front of the bullet to protect her. like the happy ending was right there. and it was snatched so freaking quick. the end with her visiting the graves…it was not the ending i signed up for.…anyways ramble over and i would give it a 9.5 out of 10. ready for a season two if possible, please. 

lovers of the red sky. a historical drama with fantasy. sign me up fam. i loved this one. my dude ahn hyo-seop is a part of this cast, which automatically intrigued me. we follow cheon-ki a female painter, and the first female in the academy at the palace for painting. her father currently, not in a well state was previously the palace’s official painter. ha ram, played by hyo-seop, is an officer at seowoongwan in charge of astronomy and such. he is currently blind due to an accident that we know happened to be the same day that cheon-ki could finally see, because at birth she was blind. the fantasy aspect goes deep and is too much to explain. but all was well in the end and everyone has their perspective eyes at the end. and cheon-ki and ha-ram have a happy ending. i would give this drama an 8.5 out of 10

yumi’s cells. this was a top tier drama 10 out of 10. i was surprised by how much i enjoyed the incorporation of the animation to the live action. it was hilarious. heart breaking. and an incredible insight into the minds of our main characters. we follow yu-mi who works an office job and meets woong a video game designer who lives life a little differently than her. it shows how an unexpected relationship flourishes and dies. it was a great drama, and i am sooooo ready for another season. i know the whole premise of the show was about yu-mi but gosh darn i really thought our two main characters were going to end up together (especially after the heart break i experienced watching bo-hyun’s character die in ‘my name’ i really wanted this for him.) anyways, yu-mi was the main character and that’s that. it was great. made me laugh and cry. i freaking love the cells. they were hilarious. ALSO HATED that it was 14 episodes…little old me thinking i had at least 2 episodes left only to be left in the dust and a puddle of tears. 

the king’s affection. everyone this was a great great drama. and not just because monday and tuesday became rowoon appreciation night, i fell in love with nam yoonsu. this man. frick i was willing to let him be the main lead. like i never feel this way. like oh yeah second male lead it��s chill i will stay away. but dang i was ready to flip the script. and byung-chan was also in this drama. like my goodness. it was great. okay now to the actual premise. we follow a story in joseon, the crown prince’s wife gave birth to twins, but twins are not a good thing in the palace. so lee hwi is born and raised in the palace, and da-mi was supposed to be killed off but the mother begged to save her. years later da-mi returns to the palace as a maid and meets jung ji-un (rowoon), she saves him from drowning and they become quick friends. lee hwi finds da-mi and realizes they look alike and wants to switch places. they switch and gosh darn the bad guys don’t kill da-mi, they kill lee hwi. uh oh. but the bad guys are silly and don’t know they killed the wrong twin…so not to get in trouble because of the switch a handful of people protect da-mi and she has to acclimate to living in the palace as her now dead twin brother. years later, jung ji-un returns as her tutuor, having her waiver in her seat. lots of things happen, and i’m just like how does no one know this. (ji-un is a dummy and doesn’t figure any of this out, kind of has inkling ideas but is a dummy and needs someone to spell it out.) strange how they were actually able to hide it. but then we find out that the dead prince’s bestie lee-hyun (nam yoon-su) knew all the freaking long and loves da-mi. wild. it’s full of twists and turns, and deception from the court. we love to hate it. our girl ends up faking her death and lives a happily ever after with jung ji-un. and lee-hyun becomes freaking king. definitely a 9.5 out of 10

happiness. this was an interesting one, it is the first drama that i have watched the mentioned covid. quite a unique start. we follow our yi-hyun (our dude park hyung-sik) who is a detective and wants to protect his friend/love sae-bom. they’ve known each other since high school. they marry because she is determined to have her own place, and to get the apartment she has to do this to earn the credit from the police bureau. in the midst of the move to their new high-rise apartment an outbreak strikes the complex. we see people of diverse backgrounds have to work together and eventually kind of kill off one another. the fear and distrust that ensues is something else. like what is the likelihood of having multiple murders in your apartment building? and on the outside, is tae-seok who worked with sae-bom, and is a health service commander. and he is at the center of trying to find the cure and help keep control of the state. i would rate it a 9 out of 10. i enjoyed seeing all the various characters, and how yi-hyun and sae-bom finally realized that they loved each other. i loved it. also thankful we got a good ending, because dang as it kept getting darker in the concept i was like, frick it’s called happiness but the title is literally fading away will all the happiness fade away and we will be left with nothing?!

extracurricular. y’all this one was intense, and dark. i was intrigued having just finished ‘the kings affection’ and being obsessed with nam yoon-su...so you know if was going to be next on the list. we follow a high schooler, ji-soo, who works as a pimp because he desperately needs money to go to university after high school. but he creates an app, that protects his app users; which is a unique and strange take in this dangerous life. everything gets twisted and he ends up in business with a classmate, gyu-ri who he has a crush on, and then everything basically goes to poop. and it ends on a cliff hanger at episode 10, which i thought i was getting more then i didn’t so yeah...didn’t appreciate that ending. i would still give it a 7.5 out of 10

melancholia. oh my goodness you knew this was going to have to be on a rewind because my dude, lee do-freaking-hyun is in this drama. so it has to be golden. this one will probably have its own review because dang a lot of feelings and thoughts. i honestly was nervous at the start because no matter how much i love lee do-hyun, i am not jumping on board a teacher/under-aged student trope. but i loved how we saw the timeline jump and how everything fell apart and then together again. i rate this drama a 10 out of 10.

the silent sea. DUDE this was insane! so this one takes place in the future, where the world is in dire need of water. a crew from korea goes to an abandoned research facility on the moon on hunt for water. well it becomes majorly twisted and dark, because this lunar water not only produces more water but takes over any life form and proceeds to drown the life out of it. it was a wild ride, with so many twists and turns, and hidden discoveries and bad guys. and hello this cast was PERFECT, and hello gong yoo was in this so you know it’s good. i would definitely recommend this drama because it is something i haven’t seen. i would rate it a 9 out of 10.

ateez. another comeback from our nuggets. come on ‘zero: fever, pt.3’ did not disappoint. ‘deja vu’, ‘all about you’, ‘not too late’ oh my goodness. they did such a great job! i love it!

nct 127 we had a comeback and though ‘stickers’ unique flute sound does not sit well with me, they’re still my babes and i will support. i liked ‘lemonade’, ‘magic carpet ride’, ‘the rainy night’, ‘road trip’ and ‘promise you’. i loved the concept videos that they did for each track. it just makes the countdown to the drop even better. and can we take a moment for the seoul city concept photos.

‘full of you’ by so soo bin. i love this man. his voice is like butter. so chill like honey. 10 out of 10 recommend. also love ‘oh-i’.

'red lipstick (feat. yoonmirae)’ by leehi. it’s a bop. it’s funky. it’s fresh. it’s groovy. 10 out of 10 recommend.

‘my universe’ by coldplay X bts. ICONIC to say the least. it is great. an incredible song. i love that they truly collaborated together with this one. it is great. 10 out of 10 recommend.

LISA. this queen. though initially did not vibe. both songs have grown on me and i love how bad butt they make me feel. 

‘stereotype’ by stayc. i know it’s everywhere but my goodness it is great!

dramas & movies.

DP. this was on my radar because of our main lead, jung hae-in. but, oh my goodness, was this a hard hitting drama. we follow jun-ho as he enlists in his required duty in the korean army. he soon becomes a special private with a unique assignment to capture army deserters. each episode spotlights a unique individual and their reasons for deserting the army. it was heart breaking, and did not shy away from hazing and bulling present there. i am unsure what was fact or fiction, but it was brutal. i would recommend but definitely watch with caution because it surrounds heavy topics. 

blue birthday. another interesting drama with a star studded cast. it had a unique concept in that our main girl, ha-rin played by yeri, can time travel when she burns photos taken by her best friend from childhood seo-jun who was thought to have previously committed suicide in high school. through many turns of events ha-rin discovers that he was actually murdered. and through multiple ripple effects ha-rin and seo-jun save each other. it was interesting and i thoroughly enjoyed it. i would give it a 7 out of 10. 

move to heaven. this was an unexpected gem. i was intrigued to watch because i had finished ‘racket boys’ the month prior and loved the lead, tang joon-sang. and i am so glad i did. we follow geu-ru who has asperger’s syndrome who works for his father at ‘move to heaven’ an after death service that arranges the items of the deceased. when geu-ru’s father dies, his uncle sang-gu suddenly appears. and we follow them as they learn about each other. recommend 9.5 out of 10. a full review to come…

hospital playlist season 2. YESSSSS our long awaited second season. it was so great, and i loved every second of it. it will have to have it’s own rewind because i have so many feelings and thoughts on this one. i would 100 out of 10 recommend. 

squid game. y’all this one was WILD. had this cast not been a part of this drama probably would not have given it a watch because it truly is gruesome and harsh. however, this cast really intrigued me and i am glad i gave it a watch. because it was a drama that makes you think about it long after it is finished about the realities of the world and how though this seems outlandish and insane, what are other things that show our true realities and this horrible side of human nature. probably give it an 8 out of 10. (p.s. that plot twist kind of saw it coming but yeah know it’s still fun to see those easter egg videos because there are definitely more that i didn’t pick up on.)

move to heaven.

this was an unexpected gem. i absolutely loved the unique storyline and the cast of characters we got to discover and unpack. i was intrigued because i had finished ‘racket boys’ just a bit ago and absolutely loved tang joon-sang. and i am so glad this drama ended up on my radar. 

we follow geu-ru a young man with asperger syndrome. he works for his father at ‘move to heaven’. it is a company that arranges items of the deceased. geo-ru’s own father passes, and his estranged uncle appears to be his guardian. we follow them as they get to know each other and to see if sang-gu will truly be geu-ru’s guardian. i would 9.5 out of 10 recommend. 

this is not a comprehensive review more so a rambling of thoughts. many many thoughts…

*spoiler alert*

there are a vast list of things i loved about this drama from the mere concept to the way that we saw character development. i loved the dynamics of this drama. the fact that ‘move to heaven’ was a business that geo-ru’s father, jeong-u, left for him to be able to sustain himself. since the world in which we live does not leave many opportunities for geu-ru and his unique set of abilities. but his father sought out these moments and tasks that would build up on the abilities that geu-ru had was beautiful. the respect in which jeong-u and geu-ru carried out their job was incredible.

the way in which he ensured that geu-ru knew how treasured continually brought tears to my eyes throughout the drama. the fact that at the end of the drama we come to find that geu-ru was adopted and that jeong-u saved him as a baby and saw how strong he was as an infant in the nicu, adds another layer to the story. a family is brought together by love not by blood. which is carried throughout the drama. 

cho sang-gu and han jeong-u had a strained relationship due an immense misunderstanding from childhood. they were raised under an abusive father, but the two brothers cared greatly for one another though they had different mothers. jeong-u is kicked out but promises to meet the young sang-gu at the train station on his birthday. years later sang-gu discovers the reason that his brother was not able to meet him was because he went to the mall to buy the birthday sneakers that he requested. the mall that unfortunately collapsed, and left him in the hospital. and after that, each year jeong-u would buy sneakers for sang-gu and store them for him. and on that day he would bring geu-ru to the amusement park that he promised to bring his brother, and stop by the station. fulfilling his promise with his brother through his son. this was an intense realization for sang-gu who had lived his life under the shadow thinking his most favorite person abandoned him. he had joined fighting, and ended up a criminal because of this impression of himself that was all a lie. 

cho sang-gu’s story was heart breaking. he saves a high schooler, kim su-cheol, from bullies. and this leads su-cheol to pursue sang-gu as a mentor, and teaches him boxing. and he goes on to become a national champion. as sang-gu was starting to find a deeper meaning and vicariously living through his trainee, su-cheol leaves the boxing ring unexpectedly. they come to face off in a match in the underground, and it goes very wrong when sang-gu offers a blow which is too much for sang-gu who passes out and ends up in the hospital. we come to find that it as because of the continuing trauma to his head he was suffering complications and that is why he left the ring, but had returned to make money to start a store with his father. this situation ends sang-gu in prison further hardening his heart. it was devastating seeing him try and save him and helping his sister with the medical bills.

it was beautiful to see his heart open up to geu-ru and those around him like the neighbors and even the social worker u-rim. he was so hardened to all the good in the world, but each case they encountered brought new things to light. 

now there were so many good client stories, each unique and heart breaking. however there was one story that really stood out to me that that is the story of jung soo-hyun. soo-hyun was an emergency room doctor who was stabbed on the job and passed away. the ‘move to heaven’ were called in by his family to go through his items and geu-ru finds a present and letter meant for his lover. this gets geu-ru focused on finding this person, and he is an absolutely incredible detective and they narrow the field down, that the lover is a cellist at an upcoming concert, that he had been planning to attend. we come to find that his lover was ian park, a man that his family did not approve of. they met a year prior in the ER. it was devastating when ian initially denied what geu-ru was saying, and that he didn’t accept it. it was a heartbreaking moment when they discovered him prior to the concert crying on the rooftop. when geu-ru presented him with the items they collected and the letter that he thankfully memorized before the family burned it, ian was devastated and broken. and in tribute ian played the first piece he ever shared with soo-hyun, and soo-hyun’s mother was in the audience to see it. one of the lines for the letter that was beautiful

since i met you, for the first time, i want to live for tomorrow. i want to be a braver man than i was yesterday all because of you. 

geu-ru and his persistence to ensure that the deceased items get to where and who they need to be with was nothing short of beautiful, a loyalty to the people he never met. and to the stories that these people never got to tell. i love geu-ru he was particular and smart and kind in a unique sort of way. i loved the dynamic change we saw in him, from his peristance in protecting his father’s ashes and locking off his room leaving it as it was. (when he discovered the video that his father left him, you best believe i was weeping.) then seeing him short through his father’s belongings was a huge moment. this was especially evident in seeing him set a place setting for his uncle at the table, because at the start he only set one for himself and his father. the parallels we saw between the uncle and his father were so special. 

the way that he attracted people to see the world through his eyes. his friend yoon na-mu was his friend from childhood, she had/has a crush on him. she was always there for him through all of life’s hard moments. and she protects him especially initially from cho sang-gu and his hard headed nature at first not accommodating to geu-ru’s needs. 

she is always there for him and goes with geu-ru to get the uncle who said he would fight again. police officer jun-yeong, school friends with na-mu, comes to the rescue and even saves the day at the fighting rink and stops the fight with a whole group of cops to put an end to this. it was an intense moment, because he went to the ring to win back the deed for their home because he offered it as collateral to try and pay for su-cheol surgery to save him. but geu-ru and na-mu saved him. 

favorite moments 

when we got to look into the past, seeing jeong-u and his wife ji-won. how they learned sign language to communicate with geu-ru...

all the aquarium moments, especially when geu-ru went to busan to try and meet his parents there. and he was ultimately met by his uncle. 

when sang-gu discovers the closer of sneakers his brother bought for each birthday he missed with him.

august rewind: 2021

music.

switch on comeback from astro. astro never disappoints and always brings the comebacks we’ve been needing. i love the vibe they have as always, it’s fresh and funky. i 10 out of 10 recommend giving the album a listen. my fave track of the moment would have to be ‘footprint’, since they released the member made video, it’s been on repeat. i love the progression fo the track and the vocals. nevertheless, every song is stellar. i also ordered these albums and i absolutely love the physical albums and the photoshoots. 

‘rose’ by d.o. my precious nugget is back. yes d.o. had a mini album, yes this is true. i cannot believe it has taken SM this freaking long to deliver this incredible man’s solo album, but i am excited that it is here. 

‘paint me naked’ by ten. Y’ALL TEN IS WILD. this man is something else. the lyrics, the beat, the choreo. i just love this man. it’s a bop, playing it all day every day. ‘baby be my weekend’ 10 out of 10 recommend.

‘down’ by a.c.e. i love me a good storyline in a song, cue my love for taylor swift. it’s great, and music video was super cute and light hearted.

‘maniac’ by nctU. y’all this unexpected track from our boys, DOYOUNG and HAECHAN. a divine duo we stan. their vocals, the fresh track. it was great. we love them. would have loved to see our boys make an appearance in the music video, but i loved the parallels of the girl and it was so good.

‘paint the town’ by loona. okay so i am super late to the party but my golly goodness, this was sooooo good. the progression of the track, and their vocals slay my existence. ‘we don’t stop until the sun goes up’ ‘we about to paint the town’ catch me vibing hard core while driving down the highway.

‘thrill ride’ by the boyz. these kids are too cute. it’s a fresh end of summer bop. that whisper in the bridge did not need to attack the way it did. but anyways du dududu du du dududu…

‘queendom’ by red velvet. our queens are back, and it’s a vibe. we stan. their vocals continue to amaze me. 

‘lo$er=lo♡er’ by txt. who knew my nuggets could bring such a hard core comeback. i love the dynamic nature that is txt, they always surprise us and come at us with different concepts. i am living for it. 

‘low low’ by wayV. as if i wasn’t already personally attacked by ten’s english comeback, here we have YANGYANG and TEN attacking me only mere weeks afterwards. the lyrics cute and funny. but i love it, they seriously were vibing and loving life in this mv, and i fully support that. it’s a bop and don’t lie to yourself that it is not. 

‘b.t.w.’ (feat jay park) by jay b. EVERYONE STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND LISTEN TO THIS. jay b’s vocals are something else, and this song is no lie incredible. i love it. and it is on repeat. jay b and yugyeom joining AOMG entertainment was the best thing to happen to r&b. i absolutely love them living their best lives and their projects have been top tier. 

‘thunderous’ by stray kids. y’all the long awaited comeback did not disappoint. i love these precious nuggets, and their efforts and hard working saturates everything that they do. i love this vibe, highly reminiscent of ‘god’s menu’ which was always and still is on repeat. love to add this bop to the rotation. 

dramas & movies *spoilers ahead*

imitation. this was a great drama. i loved that we got to see a little insight into the life of idols and training. so we follow ma-ha who is a member of the girl group ‘teaparty’ along with two other girls ri-a and hyun-ji. they have struggled to make it in the industry. we also see the parallel of the popular boy group ‘shax’ which has member kwon-ryeok, who knew ma-ha in his pre training days. i loved seeing how their history and distance came back together. we follow as ‘teaparty’ begins to make a name for themselves, and see the rise and fall of friendships as well as budding romance. there is also a dark undertone, because they did not shy away from addressing the dark side of not being accepted by the industry. i absolutely loved the relationships that formed between the friendship groups. and i loved the ending scene where all the groups came together to sing the song that eun-jo and annie had started writing together. cue all the tears. rate it a 10 out of 10.

a rational life. this was a nice drama. once again the older woman with the younger intern at the office kind of romance. we follow shen ruo-xin who is a 30-something year old professional who has made a name for herself despite resistance at work. she comes in contact with a younger assistant, qi xiao, at the job who falls head over heels in love with her. its precious to see how he did not back down through it all, and how they gather their courage to pursue their relationship together. i would rate it a 6 out of 10.

falling into your smile. another cute chinese drama, focused on e-sports. we meet an all-male ZGDX gaming team, who soon finds themselves in need of a new star player. cue our girl tong yao an amateur gamer making a name for herself due to her exceptional skills. her ex-boyfriend introduced her to the world and she ends up facing off against his team in the finals later in the show. she makes her way and creates a bond with the ZGDX team, and even a romance blossoms, of course we love it. we rate it a 7 out of 10.

weightlifting fairy kim bok-jo. a rewatch for me that is still a 10 out of 10. honestly, forgot about the storyline between the doctor and bok-jo, which was weird and i am glad i forgot about it. but the end of the drama between bok-joo and our joon-hyung was precious. 

racket boys. this was a 10 out of 10 kind of drama. i loved every aspect of this one. we follow hyeon-jong was takes on the role of a badminton coach at haenam middle school. hae-kang his son, who was once the best badminton player in korea, had found a love for baseball after leaving the sport. he reluctantly joins the team to ensure they have enough players to compete and try to avoid disbandment of the badminton team. we have yoon-dam, his family’s pride and joy and star player; woo-chan who initially feels he does not have any family support (we come to find that his father had been attending all of his competitions and it lights a new fire for woo-chan to do his best); and yong-tae the maknae and precious light of the group. cue hyeon-jong’s wife yeong-ja the head coach of the girls badminton team and best coach out there. on her team se-yoon an incredible player who ends up on the international stage and eventually on the korean national team, and han-sol her best friend and fellow teammate. it is recipe for new friendships and supporting of one another in their dreams to join the national youth team and compete together. i loved it, and we even saw haenam’s town people and how they all supported one another in the daily life tasks, as well as our badminton players. it was great to see the whole town rally around them. this one will probably have its own review because there were so many aspects i loved. 

sweet home. this one got it’s own post because it was so unexpected that i throughly enjoyed it. so if you wish to see my thoughts on it here is the link to that review.

you are my spring. this was a nice drama. honestly the beginning had me but then lost me towards the end and i finished it a 1.5Xspeed to get it done kind of deal. we follow da-jeong who works as a concierge, and moves to a new building where a murder occurred. our man young-do is a psychiatrist whose office practice is downstairs. there are twins, and a case of mistaken identity, mystery, child trafficking from a cult, and a case of oooohhhhh we may have met as children kind of story and experienced a similar trauma kind of deal. i wish we had more from the side storylines, and less from the twin guys. like i loved ga-yeong, young-do’s ex-wife and her current boyfriend patrick or ha-neul (young-do’s friend and vet) and jin-ho (ga-yeong’s friend and trainer). i rate it a 6 out of 10.

fruits basket season 3. i loved it and it was a great conclusion to the series. i felt like there was a marked missed for the start of season 3. like i don’t know why the writers wanted me to feel sorry for akito, and wanted me to empathize with her but ya know it was not going to happen. sorry honey. she was wack. but anyways, i love how kya and tohru ended up together because i shipped them sooooo freaking hard. and love that the curse was finally broken for all of them! it was great. i loved it. 9 out of 10.

so i must preface that these types of dramas or shows or films for that matter are not my cup of tea. that being said i am easily swayed when it comes to my talented hard working men. lee dohyun and song kang being a part of that list, here i am now eagerly awaiting a season two. so how did this drama series full of thrill and gore, change sweet little ole me into a fan?...let's dive in and find out.

we follow hyun-su a high school student whose whole family tragically dies in a car accident that he survives. he moves into an apartment complex full of new people to him. his move coincides with a mysterious phenomenon of humans becoming monsters, which takes over the world. this pandemic of sorts leads him and those others in the apartment building to try and survive. but the twist, you don't know who will turn into a monster next...

*spoiler alert*

from the initial intro i knew it was going to be an odd one. the way in which this drama was filmed, i cannot stress enough how perfect the filming was to express the level of thrill. i loved it and was on the edge of my seat. also i must add that i was and still am not a huge fan of the gore, but i can see why they added it. literally whenever there was a monster it was gorey. like insanely full of gore. definitely one could catch me not watching those parts.

the characters.

cha hyun-su. this dude was complex as heck. as soon as you think you figured him out, the whole picture flips. we start off seeing a depressed student wanting to commit suicide. then as he progresses into becoming a monster we see a side of him that he had hidden that wants to desperately live. and that is how he is able to protect his true self from being taken over by the monster inside. it was so sad to see how tortured he was in school; because prior to him crumbling he was a soft-sweet student wanting to help a fellow peer. and that peer turned out to be an awful human being, who in turn despised hyun-su for his kindness. and then his family became torn apart because of his bully's horrible intentions and pull on his father and in turn leading hyun-su's family to neglect him.

eun-hyeok. this dude was twisted and wanted to survive under the disguise of initially wanting to protect everybody. his methods were wack, because he was literally willing to sacrifice hyun-su as a semi monster leading him to battle every day. dude was wack, but as time continued on we saw that he wanted everyone to survive. and he was able to ensure that they could ration and survive long enough to make a move. and we saw him sacrifice himself to protect his sister eun-yu, who wanted to go back for hyun-su. now y'all, what do we think? i think this kid is still alive and is starting to be taken over by the monster because of all the blood we saw at the end, like wouldn't that be perfect if he is alive for the next season. yes, please.

i wish we could have had more development between hyun-su and eun-yu, but i understand that hyun-su was busy being a sacrifice for everyone and protecting and collecting everything they needed to survive and fighting monsters and all. but still i would have loved to have a little something something from them. ya know.

sang-wook our ambiguous mafia-gang member-mercenary dude. i loved how we discovered his origin story near the end. my goodness gracious. he was hunting down the creeps and taking them out. we stan, maybe not the best methods, but he comes through and protects everybody. and then he goes to save our girl yu-ri, the nurse, who has an asthma attack. on the way out they get shot by the wacko dude and my heart just got ripped out of my chest. like whyyyyyyyy?

i am throughly upset that ji-su, our guitar girl, and jae-heon, our pastor, didn't have their chance to shine. i love how they fit each other and both wanted so desperately to protect those around them even though they did not know all of them personally. like he sacrificed himself to protect everyone. i am thankful that he got to confess and i am glad he did not turn into a monster himself because they would have went against all his principles, but still sooooooo sad.

du-sik. our dude who takes the children in and takes hold of our hyun-su when he is at his most volatile state and brings him back to center. just let me weep once again because his character was incredible and i love him. we stan.

yi-kyung, our firefighter queen, who happens to be pregnant and still slaying monsters. like oh my goodness gracious this girl had so many layers. i love how the story just kept unfolding. her back story, like who is her husband? and how does he know so much about the monsters? what monster did he turn into? like i need to know more! then she ends up back with the government. like what?

ui-myeong, the wack dude that is also a monster like hyun-su but increasing more wack and troubled than hyun-su ever was. honestly, kind of intrigued to know his trauma that made him this way. he is so crazy and i still wish eun-yu and eun-hyeon had talked some sense into hyun-su before letting him get buddy-buddy with this creep. and just me thinking that is who sang-wook was at the end, because he most definitely died and we know this creep can shape-shift. right?! (side note: i love his man as an actor, like seriously who can pull off this character?!?)

moments that stuck with me.

the pinky promise to survive no matter what, between eun-yu and hyun-su.

sang-wook comforting yu-ri when she was caught up in the thought of killing some one. she had to protect herself. and sang-wook kept repeating he was not human.

all the moments that our girl yik-kyung escaped from the monsters. queen.

jae-heon's confession to ji-su.

all the moments that hyun-su did not give into the monster and came back. the desperation worn on his face. like my gosh.

du-sik embracing hyun-su's monster saying 'it's okay' 'it's not your fault'

the deeper meaning.

it was interesting to see the different dynamics between everybody as the world was crumbling, how everyone reacted. the fellow apartment complex residents, some were so concerned with themselves they neglected the community. like the supermarket owner, where his wife wanted to help everyone he wanted to make a profit. 

interesting to see how some of the monsters they turned into were their greatest desire. this was clearly painted in myung-sook's case of not being able to protect her daughter and turning into a monster that was a giant baby. and when they stumbled upon one of the monsters, who wasn't able to protect his children because he could not reach out, and then his monster self was a monster with incredibly long arms.

now i don't know how far of a reach this is and i did not further investigate other than watching the season, and seeing clips of my faves online but is there a deeper meaning to the whole show of the monster inside all of us. what do you think?

overall, i would rate this drama an 8.5 out of 10. it was stellar considering how i am not inclined to watch this genre, but it was great from the character development and intense storyline.

may, june & july rewind: 2021.

well, the month of may did not hold as many favorites as to have it’s own post. so here we are, mid august because i forgot to post at the end of june and july.

music.

‘butter’ and ‘permission to dance’ by bts. need i say more.

nct dream. our nuggets released their first album. all the tracks are bops, and we stan. my faves are: ‘dive into you’, ‘my youth’, ‘anl’, ‘be there for you’. lots of faves. 

txt. honestly these kids never hold back and their album has been an constant repeat. hello, ‘anti-romanitic’, ‘0X1=LOVESONG’, ‘magic’, i could just name all the tracks because they are all stellar. the vibe is new for them and they embraced it in an epic way. it has a nostalgic rock feeling, reminiscent of difficult times. and the title track music video conveys that energy.

‘save’ by nct127. our boys are back with a uniquely nct127 vibe. a dance electronic track that makes me miss our boys.

‘alcohol free’ by twice. a bop that originally i didn’t think i vibed with yet here i am.

‘mixtape: OH’ by stray kids. yes my children you’re killing it. i love it.

‘i want you around’ (feat devita) by yugyeom. yugyeom has found his r&b home. i love this for him and for my playlists. this track and the textures that their voices carry in this track is next level, and i love it.

‘ready to love’ by seventeen. it has been on repeat fam. like all day every day.

steel. this is an artist that came up on shuffle. and my goodness thankful that it did. because this artist is great. i heard a feature with ‘mango’, but i love his latest album with ‘rush’ and ‘bae’ being some of my favorites.

‘right through me’ by day6. it’s day6 even though it isn’t all of them it’s a vibe, and we stan. 

dramas & movies. *spoiler alert*

go ahead. i absolutely loved this chinese drama. it had all the classic moments one loves: the childhood story, unexpected family dynamics, and seeing our couple through their young adulthood. we got to follow the stories of an unlikely group of friends who came together under unexpected circumstances, leading them to become a family. they undergo many tests of their relationships, and some friendships developing into something more. i loved the sweet moments between all of the characters. and i loved that there was extreme character development for the majority of the characters we met. i rate it a 9 out of 10.

youth of may. y’all. okay ’youth of may’ a TOP DRAMA. incredible, stunning, the storytelling dynamic and raw. the actors brought each and every character to life in every moment we had with them. it’s may 1980, we follow hee-tae, a seoul university med student, who comes back to the city of gwangju for an arranged blind date with soo-ryeon. but he ends up meeting myeong-hee in her place. we follow them as they fall in love and navigate the twists of the city of gwangju falling into turmoil as the government attacks its people. there were so many aspects i loved about the drama, from the medical aspects, that myeong-hee is a nurse trying to provide for her fam and hee-tae overcoming his past trauma to help the people of gwangju. to the all the families stories and how different each treated their children but all wanting to protect them in different ways sometimes hurting them in the end. the various class systems we saw and how hee-tae tried to break it. the heartbreak we all felt when myeong-hee died to say her little brother. and the heartache we felt when they couldn’t find her until decades later, as he still carried her herbal mints with him.

….until the day we meet again, i’ll keep swimming…

it was a stunning story and i am so glad i watched it. i would rate it a 12 out of 10. (these two actors are intensely incredible, and i cannot even express how freaking awesome they are as actors.)

so i married the anti-fan. this was a cute fun drama. i appreciated how geun-young, our leading lady, was able to see the unique qualities of our star, who joon. and that they ended up together staying true to the title. and the full cheese was present in the finale when he proposed after coming back after reclaiming his glory. we stan a redemption story. they were cute, i loved the funny moments when they were starting to get to know each other. and it was a cute fresh story of hate to love. i would give it an 8 out of 10.

law school. this one is a little out of my comfort zone. we follow jong-hoon a former prosecutor turned professor at a..you guessed it…law school. we follow a few of his students as they are faced with a unique case surrounding their professor and an administrator who dies while on campus. there are secrets, and grey histories, battered relationships and fragility that i haven’t seen many dramas address. and i haven’t watched a law tv show like this since ‘how to get away with murder’. but it was great and i loved in the beginning of the show they were create the story and lead us to belief that we solved the crime only to have it unravel in the last 3 minutes of the episode. i loved all the twists and turns, but am sad that the lead couple that i wanted to happen didn’t really happen. but you know that wasn’t the main focus of this drama so it is what it is. i would rate it a 7 out of 10.

doom at your service. y’all this was great, a masterpiece from seo in-guk and park bo-young, we stan. i knew it would make me cry and it did, it was soooo great. we follow dong-kyung an editor who finds out she has a terminal brain tumor, and she comes to make a contract with myul-mang. he is a middle man between god and humans, also know as ‘doom’. we follow them through the initial contract to them developing feelings for one another, to the baffling decisions they have to make. emotionally we had development for our characters and we love character development. we love the unique storyline. we loved the quirky comedic moments. we love the second love storyline between her best friend ji-na and her coworker joo-ik, which needs its own story (i would definitely watch that story) i would give it a 9 out of 10.

and a gif for our second leading couple that deserve their own drama.

my roommate is a gumiho. i loved this one, crazy fantasy concept and all i love it. we got woo-yeo our ‘sir’ a 999 year old gumiho, who thinks he collects human energy in hopes of becoming a human in the future. he meets lee dam our girl who is at university studying history. she stumbles upon him literally and comes to behold one of the beads, that woo-yeo let slip. and that is how they came to live together so he can protect the bead. along the way they fall in love and of course in drama fashion everything works out even beating red ties of fate trying to divide them. i loved it, and loved seeing jang ki-yong in this stoic yet quirky role alongside our queen hyeri. side note the cast was stunning: we got kang han-na and kim do-wan from ‘start up’ in completely different roles falling in love in this drama. i love it! i rate it a 9.5 out of 10

2021 april rewind.

music.

‘all yours’ ep by astro. my boys did not hold back. this album has superior b-sides. the vibe of this one is stellar and i am continually blown away by their vocals. some of my fave tracks include ‘dear my universe’, ‘all good’, and ‘all stars.

‘spider’ by hoshi of SVT. woah. this track appeared out of nowhere. it is up there with kai’s ‘mmmh’, they eat together at lunch kind of thing. the choreo is so unique and never been done before. loved it.

kimsejeong. ‘whale’ and ‘warning’ have been on repeat. i love her vocals and the fresh vibe that these songs possess.

‘drunk dazed’ by enhypen. this comeback was something else. i loved this track. have not really been invested in enhypen, like i listened to their title track ‘given-taken’, but was not awaiting this comeback. but my goodness, this track made me want to listen and watch all their choreos. this was a great comeback, and i loved this track and choreography.

‘after school’ by weeekly. it’s a bop simple fact.

‘in the morning’ by itzy. well this originally was not a fave, but as with most jyp girl group tracks after a listen or two it becomes absolutely addictive, and that is the same with ‘in the morning’. they did good, and it was an unexpected feeling for itzy, because it is typically a fresh pop beat, but this one was on the opposite spectrum. i am excited to see where this will take itzy in the future.

drama & movies *spoiler alert*

hi, me! this was an incredible gem. i would definitely give it a watch. it was sweet, quirky, humorous, and heartfelt. we follow bahn ha-ni, a woman moving through the motions of life in an unstable job. she stumbles upon her past younger self. the younger bahn ha-ni challenges her, offering a fresh perspective that she hasn’t seen in a long time. with her new outlook, we follow ha-ni as she pursues new goals and guides her younger self back to the past. of course we meet a young man, han yoon-hyun, who appears to not have any ambitions, but is just navigating life in his own way. of course in the traditional drama way, turns out they had an encounter as younger children. we also come to find that ha-ni blames herself for her father’s passing, because he saved her and pushed her out of the way of an oncoming car. the younger ban ha-ni was sent by him, and one of the quotes i loved was this:

my life has been completely ruined, and dad wanted to remind of how i used to be. he wanted to tell me that through you. he wanted to show how radiant…we were.

we love it and we stan. overall loved this one and would rate it a 9 out of 10.

navillera. this was another incredible drama. the rollercoaster of emotions. the tears shed, it was incredible piece of art. it’s so bittersweet to say goodbye to this cast of characters. i would 10 out of 10 recommend. deok-chool is a 70-something year old man who is recently retired, and he had previously been unable to pursue his dream of ballet. now he decided to pursue that dream and making it a reality. he meets chae-rok. this young man’s heart for ballet has begun to fade and then he is met with the task of teaching this gentleman ballet. through this odd turn of events, a beautiful friendship starts to blossom. we also come to find that the reason deok-chool is adamant about pursuing dance is because it helps his memories stay fresh, because we come to find that he has alzheimers, which literally hit me like a truck because i did not see that coming. song kang’s performance of this character was stunning. from the ballet to the heart of the character, he embodied him. and the gentle, park in-hwan, did a fantastic job. portrayed a strong man finally finding piece with a dream he struggled for years to pursue. so incredibly proud of him finding himself and then being able to find a new friendship in the midst of his grief. favorite moments: the scene when chae-rok desperately danced to have deok-chool’s memories return to him because he wrote how seeking chae-rok dance brought his memories back. tears were truly shed. and then when deok-chool said, ‘did you soar?’ when he saw chae-rok for the first time at the train track, after he had been away on the global stage.

how to be thirty. this was an interesting one and the plot didn’t go where i thought it would go. like the main dude, seung-yoo lied like a lot, and ji-won lost her job because he was trash. and the two girls he messed with were angry at each other, where in reality shouldn’t they have been angry with him for keeping this secret from them? like he started seeing ji-won while he was technically in a relationship with hye-ryung who he shouldn’t have been in a relationship with in the first place. hye-ryung was holding on to him and she was kinda crazy, but he should have been honest up front with what was happening. and he broke up with her before it spiraled. i really hope our ji-won is happy with the director dude because she deserves it, and deserves a real man who won’t mess with her. honestly, the second lead couple saved this show, ran-joo the radio show host and the young man, joon-young; because seung-yoo and ji-won’s relationship wasn’t it. i would rate this a 5.5 out of 10, because the plot just wasn’t it for me. the acting was good, but the characters were awful.

please don’t date him. this was a short interesting web drama. we follow ji-sung a programmer for an appliance team. she stumbles upon developing a refrigerator that distinguishes bad men. she is able to help the ladies around her who are confronted by horrible men. she then becomes involved with a firefighter kook-hee, but he is struggling with his past. honestly, this was a nice drama, and i am glad that i stumbled upon this one. i loved kook-he’s character and the way in which he wanted to protect those around him, and that he finally learned that he was able to accept love from those around him. they were so sweet ji-sung and kook-hee. i also loved her little trio of ladies and even though they all had different goals they came together to support one another. i would rate it an 8 out of 10.

vincenzo. y’all i loved every freaking minute of this. we meet the mafia lawyer, vincenzo casino, who comes to korea to pick up some gold but gets caught up with cha-young. she needs to avenge the death of her father, and the unjust situations around her. babel a horrible company with shady dealings is at the center of it all. and it all unfolds from there. many, like many plot twists ensue. unexpected characters. it is insanely funny, terrifying, and all the emotions in between. it was a satisfying watch i’d rate it a 12 out of 10 recommend.

march rewind: 2021

music. 

ateez. just everything and anything ateez. i am officially an atiny. all of their tracks. the music videos, all their variety show contents. i am here for it all. 10 out of 10 would recommend diving in and enjoying all that they have to offer. it’s been a great time. 

‘rollin’' by brave girls. of course this needed to make it’s way onto my playlist, as it is currently the national anthem of korea. it’s crazy to see a song that has been out for a hot minute make such an impact on the charts. their vocals are so strong, and i am surprised i have not heard of them really before this event. but the song is great, and is best experienced when driving on the highway sung with friends at the top of your lungs. 

‘run’ by sorn. this girl is also making moves and i love that she is able to do what she loves. you can truly see how much she loves singing and performing in the music video. and i cannot wait until the day that these artists will be able to perform to their hearts content and see fans in real life again. on to the track, the vibe is so different from previous clc tracks and i love that for her. it’s a chill cute fresh vibe, and it fits her so well. i also love the cover art for her start as a individual artist. i further watched her behind the scenes and this girl is a queen and curated this all herself with her friends. what a wonderful story to see all that perseverance can create.

‘on the ground’ by rose. our queen had a tremendous comeback and we are proud of our girl. i love that she was able to release the track in a language she wanted and it was unexpected to me at least that it was in english, not only the main track but also her b-side, ‘gone’ (also love). it was great, and i love the creative choreography, and truly appreciate that her dancers had their own fancams.

‘b.l.t. (bling like this)’ by treasure. it’s fun. we already love bang ye dam’s vocals and when i heard this track as the outro for a youtube video i had to investigate. it’s cute, bright and cheerful. love it. 

korean indie. 

fam this genre may have it’s own category this month because it has been owning my playlist: 

‘ohio’ by hyukoh. 

‘jam & butterfly (feat. crush & eaJ)’ by dpr live. this song is literal honey. the vibes the tone in their voices. these three vocals just mesh so well together, and i am obsessed with this track. 

dept. recently discovered this incredible artist. i have been loving ‘2 years’ feat soon zero, ‘summer again’ feat saula, and ‘even after july’ feat kuro. seriously his tone is something else. 

‘home sweet home’ by car, the garden.

dramas & movies. *spoiler alert*

space sweepers. finally got around to watching this stellar sci-fi film. i enjoyed the plot with the dystopian-utopian future, unique and likely crew of friends, and the most precious gem of ‘potential destruction’. if you haven’t jumped aboard this one i would 10 out fo 10 recommend. plus it has our man song joongki as one of the leads. 

love alarm season 2. sooooo season two was a journey that i did not expect. i like suho. i was so conflicted. i waited thinking the writers would fix the wrongs in season one. but here we are suho broken hearted without jojo. my heart is aching and shattered because of the travesty that is upon us. i think there was supposed to be a deeper meaning when she was running through the conquered forest she once wanted to escape so desperately, and they she finally embraced her old self. and hye-yeong was waiting for her at the end of the race. but i was just so sour about the situation with suho i neglected to see the other meanings present at that point. this whole season was truly a joke on me/us as viewers because it was wack. i did not expect to see suho as the second male lead. like honey, he can be first male lead in my life any time he wants. okay but back to the drama, it was okay not what i wanted but it was good and well made. so i guess i’d give it a 7.5 out of 10. still mad at this point.

koi wa tsuzuku yo dokomademo (love that lasts forever). this was a sweet japanese drama. following our sweet girl, sakura, as a aspiring nurse having running into the great doctor, tendo. he is stoic and shows no heart in his work as a cardiac physician. she approaches him and eventually makes her way into his heart. their relationship is sweet. i would rate this a 8 out of 10. i appreciate the way that japanese dramas develop and the sweet level of romance that permeates the entire drama. 

sunbae don’t put on that lipstick. the perfect office romance for early spring. of course i added this one to my two watch list after seeing rowoon was a part of this cast. after ‘extraordinary you’ i have been invested in his acting journey and this drama did not disappoint. this drama follows a office worker, songah, who is secretly dating her manager. her younger hoobae, chae hyunseung has a crush on her from afar, and soon stumbles upon their manager planning a wedding with his fiancé, not our girl mind you. this leads to a string of events that empowers our dude to gain courage to become outspoken with his feelings for songah. we get to follow the blossoming of their relationship and the events that ensue thereafter. hyunseung had the best lines in this drama. 

sunbae. you can take your time. but if you come to me i’ll show you the most beautiful love ever. 

you don’t have to risk anything sunbae. i’ll risk it all for you. 

and i love how the drama ends with them saying how they want to experience everything together

let’s see cherry blossoms in the spring. ocean in the summer. leaves in the autumn. and snow in the winter...every year.

now i know what you’re thinking, and what my past self was also asking, “now, do you really need another boy group to stan?” and the answer was “of course not. but ateez…” and multiple guides to ateez later, watching all the music videos intently for each member, viewing the live stages, and their variety shows…here we are an atiny. i would ten out of ten recommend this group. i wrote an instagram post about them but i could not express how much i totally dove head first into the world that is ateez. like it’s wild, and there was nothing held back. so here are some of the reasons why i love them…

fireworks (i’m the one) i cannot over look the first music video that made me seriously dive in. maybe i just wasn’t ready earlier on, because yes i knew of them as the kq fellaz. yes i am disappointed in myself. because at the time i was impressed by their style and the choreo they effortlessly pulled off. yes, i watched a few of their title music videos (i.e. ‘say my name’, ‘answer’, etc) but i never ventured into the individual members. something about ‘fireworks’ i don’t know if it was the choreo, the visuals, the style, the variety and live stages that kept popping up on my feed but i became invested in this comeback. i ventured into listening to the ep ZERO: FEVER pt 2 and dang it was great. 

> side note: kinda salty that i decided to jump on the bandwagon when mingi is on hiatus because i feel like i’m missing something. hopefully he will be back soon, and i will be his biggest cheerleader when he is back. 

their discography it’s pretty extensive considering they only debuted in late 2018. of course while listening to it start to finish i had to watch the accompanying music videos. and my goodness gracious there is an underlying story line which i ate right up. still have no idea what is going on but i am totally here for it. their vocals, and the style that mingi and hongjoong rap is wild. i freaking love all of their vocals. like, there is no weak link. everyone carries their own. and they slay it. now i must mention my fave tracks:

the members. you best believe i now see all the recommendations to watch the compilations on youtube of their funny moments, because they are hilarious and cute together. i love the brotherhood that they portray online and in their community. i love how genuine they appear. i think i have finally settled on a bias as well, first i thought it was san but in all actuality i think it is a tie between seonghwa and jongho. but my goodness everyone bias wrecks on the regular because they are all stellar humans, and i love them all. they all carry such charisma and character on stage and then in their variety shows and online content are humble and goofy. i appreciate seeing them in all different lights.

february rewind: 2021.

this month was full of lots of great dramas that sadly came to an end. i absolutely love this monthly rewind because it was full of top dramas and incredible music. i hope you enjoy as well.

nct127 japanese comeback. ‘gimmie gimmie’ and ‘first love’. these both have such different vibes that i love. ‘gimmie gimmie’ is hardcore, reminisce of ‘chain’ ‘wakey wakey’ hushed vocals. and ‘first love’ is sweet and i am a princess. we love the duality. must say with each comeback i fall in love with them all, all over again. like jungwoo, taeil, come through honeys. we stan talented vocalists. 

‘celebrity’ by IU. this song has grown on me, i love how aggressive the beat hits you at first. and her sweet vocals balance it. i love it. the lyrics. IU is queen.

‘wayo’ by bang ye dam. apple music infinity has come in clutch. this is a bop. i love his tone, and the vibe of this track. his voice is honey, but also piercing. love the guitar. catch me trying to harmonize ‘wayo, wayo, wayo’. 

‘don’t call me’ by shinee. this was a long awaited comeback and it did not disappoint. we stan shinee in this household and my goodness gracious this song, the choreo, the EP. we stan.

y’all when i say this monthly rewind is incredible i mean it with my whole chest. like literally each and every drama that came to a close this month was pure gold. LIKE SOLID GOLD. PLATINUM. it was stunning, fabulous, made me cry happy and sad tears. all the emotions. these were great.

run on. oh my goodness. this cast of characters was no joke. i loved the various personalities we got to meet and how everyone meshed so well. i love that we didn’t have a horrible love triangle, no need for that nonsense. i loved the relationship that seon-gyeom and mi-joo had. they uplifted and made each other better people. they both brought something incredible, genuine, and precious to the table, and i absolutely fell in love with them. this drama had so many great moments and lines that hit you straight in the heart. the writing from this drama was honest and raw. okay now onto the actual drama. it followed mi-joo an english translator for films, and she meets our track star seon-gyeom who has been trapped by his facade that his father, a political figure, set for him. mi-joo aids seon-gyeom in finding his voice and overcoming the obstacles in front of him. they develop a relationship that unfortunately has to deal with family drama against them, but they overcome. thank goodness. we also meet dan-a, our queen, ceo of the sports agency that managed seon-gyeom. we stan. she goes through so much from her family that doesn’t believe in her power solely because she is a woman. but our queen reigns and is that boss. suddenly she meets our yeong-hwa a university student majoring in art. they help each other unlock sides of themselves that they had not confronted before. i love their relationship, however with the age gap there is of course drama and society not as accepting of them. yeong-hwa was absolutely precious., i loved how genuine his character was, and not trapped by the situations around him. honestly, they all grew on me, and i freaking love how mi-joo and dan-a unexpectedly become the best of friends. this was a great one, and i loved the funny moments where the drama picked on itself. from the dramatic slow downs with eye contact to hilarious scenarios it was great. a top drama for me. i would rate it a 9 out of 10.

true beauty. THIS DRAMA. i started writing my little blurb in this rewind and it went on a tangent so it shall have it’s own post. just know this was a gold nugget. it was light, fun, sad, and has cha eunwoo and our bestest man hwang inyeop. you should watch it 10 out of 10. here is the link if you want the full picture.

mr queen. y’all. i love a good time warp historical drama. and this one did not disappoint. i freaking loved this drama. shin hye-sun can just breathe on a drama and it will be golden. she flawlessly portrayed essentially 3 characters. the old so-yong, bong-hwan in so-yong, and the reborn so-yong. ICONIC. this drama follows a chef in present day whose spirit finds his way to the joseon period inside the body of the ‘to be queen’ kim so-yong. he gets entangled with the events of the day, after failing to get back to the present day. and eventually falls for king cheoljong. our man, cheoljong a man acting a fool for the sake of keeping his cover to change joseon from the inside out. because at the start queen sunwon/queen dowager holds the true power with the help of the kim family, so-yong’s clan. it gets complicated. everyone hates each other, then they open up and end up falling truly in love despite all the nonsense that the kim family throws their way. the juxtaposition between the present day bong-hwan inside the historic so-yong was hilarious, from dancing to blackpink and using terms that the king needed to create his own dictionary to follow was endearing and hilarious. i loved it. and once things were falling into place, the king gets killed, so so the kim family thought. and they come back stronger than ever except they get shot at, which ships bong-hwan back to present day and chaining the history books behind him. it’s definitely an interesting one, and i am baffled that it did so well in korea because well our bong-hwan falls for our king. while at the beginning he is flirting with each and every woman he comes into contact with, as he is the queen kim so-yong. this is pretty out of scope in general for korean television. favorite moments from this one include: the relationship between so-yong and the royal court ladies. we love a good hype team. loved the fun she brought to the royal kitchen, and winning over the upper court with her killer cooking skills. cheoljong falling in love with so-yong and leaning she was the girl from the well. 

queen for seven days. another historical drama. i loved this one, however, i watched it at the same time as mr. queen which threw me off because they have similar political issues fighting against the figure head and trying to undo the few that steal from the poor. i loved the first few episodes where our team of chae-kyung, seo-no, and lee yeok came together for the first time. i loved their unlikely friendship. and with all the craziness that lee yeok and chae-kyung held on. the king was crazy and went crazier because he wanted something he couldn’t have so desperately and it was heart breaking. because it broke everyone around him. chae-kyung and lee-yeok just wanted to be happy together, but the system around them wouldn’t let them. they were destined to hurt each other so long as they were together. and i must say that this ending was not as bad as scarlet heart but it broke my heart into a million pieces. like the ending might as well have been the same. these writers were so cruel too, because they let us think that they lived together had two children and lived happily ever after, just to have it ripped away from us, and come to find that they came together at last when lee yeok was on his death bed. and they did it to protect each other from the cruel people of the royal and noble class. 

find me in your memory. i had to add this to the top of my to watch list because of our dear, moon ga-young. i loved this one, an unexpected gem. i enjoyed the concept of jung-hoon being unable to forget anything and ha-jin completely forgetting someone from her life. it was destiny. and then it was quite interesting to have the crime element in the middle of this fantasy aspect with memory alteration (in a sense reminded me of the elements i loved of ‘strong woman’). i loved how supportive those around them were, and i loved the relationship that formed between ha-kyung, ha-jin’s sister and il-kwon, reporter jung-hoon’s fellow reporter. it was so cute and i would have loved to see more of them. this drama had me on the edge of my seat at times because of the uncertainty and then the bad man going after our girl to take ‘revenge’ on jung-hoon. thankfully everything came together for our couple through all the turmoil from memories, to overcoming their past, the bad man trying to kill them, and then the media come for their relationship. i would rate it a 7.5 out of 10. 

fruits basket. an anime, who am i? team no sleep. this anime follows our girl tohru honda who finds herself befriending kyo soma and yuki soma. they end up all living together with the boys’ cousin, shigure. trying to stop a fight between kyo and yuki, she comes to find that they are all members of the zodiac and become their zodiac when they are hugged by the opposite sex. kyo, the cat and yuki, the rat: these two overcome a lot. from hating one another, to accepting that they are not solely their zodiac. tohru shows them the light in the world that akito, the family head of the somas, had tried to extinguish. i liked this cute and light hearted anime. i watched both seasons one and two, and i am eagerly awaiting the next season. because come on! kureno broke the curse, that tohru is desperately trying to break so that her friends can be free and finally fly. i must admit at the start i was team yuki, but after season two oh my goodness gracious team kyo through and through.

true beauty.

THIS DRAMA WAS UN-EXPECTANT. HILARIOUS. CUTE. AND PRECIOUS. we got cha eunwoo, our bae. with our newest bestest boy, hwang in-yeop. and our queen, mun ka-young. what else would one need in a drama?! i was excited when they announced the creation of this drama, because like so many of us i love the webtoon. that is overlooking the faults of the basis of the theme with shallow standards of beauty, it is great. and i love our characters. i especially love how the writers of the drama utilized the great structures of the webtoon’s characters and created another world. i rate it a 10 out of 10.

we follow our leading lady im ju-kyung as she overcomes bullying at her old school for being ‘ugly’. she was cast out and a ‘dumpling runner’, running around for the group of bullies. she finds a passion for makeup and masters it, becoming a new person with a ‘new face’ after putting it on. she starts life at a new school with her new face. she stumbles into an old place of comfort without her new face, the comic book store, and runs into the school prince, lee suho. this ensues with a bout of lying; unsuccessfully, because suho knows that she is the same im ju-kyung that started at his school. he protects her secret, and it leads their relationship to grow closer. we follow them through their years at high school, as she hides her face and later hiding their relationship from their classmates. this drama continues to follow them through their young adult years. 

now on to the spoilers…

overall, once again i must always state that i don’t love it when they take this shallow perspective and over dramatize the conventional aspects of beauty. im ju-kyung, who is supposedly not conventionally beautiful and they dramatize her redness and pimples, etc. she does all these wild things to hide her true identity from those around her at school. thankfully the writers did not try to pull that ‘oh my goodness, i didn’t know that was you under the makeup’ game because our suho is not a shallow cookie and looks below the surface. because that game is ridiculous and i would have died. i am thankful the ending that this drama took, because i was nervous especially at the start that it was going to go the duration of the show with no-one knowing her true face, like the webtoon. thankfully we had a character revelation unfortunately not on her own timing. but she had grown as a person and had a team of people behind her allowing her to shine and overcome. we love character development. it’s great. it makes my heart happy. we started the drama with her completely swallowed whole by the perception that she wanted to portray to those around her, not showing her true beauty. because she was a beautiful person who wanted to protect those around her, and once she let go of this facade and mask she was able to fully be the person she was destined to be.

i loved suho’s character in this. he had so many layers and i love that they didn’t make it like the webtoon in this aspect. i love how their relationship started in the comic store and ended there. he grew so much, and became livelier because he knew im ju-kyung. his character was so stoic and overcome with sadness at the start. his best friend committed suicide and he blamed himself for this, which was completely out of his control. im ju-kyung showed him that it was not his fault and they came to protect one another. also love how the writers had him pursue music producing at the end, and even produced for seo-jun’s debut. he was such a great son, after him and his father finally reconnected and then he suffered a stroke, crazy! suho went to the states to care for his father. definitely lost in this, he broke up with ju-kyung as to not hold her back, which was silly and even though he was across the world they could have made it work. they’d been through so much worse, but that’s for another drama universe.

han seo-jun our brooding character with a light personality just beneath the surface. i loved seeing his character at home and with his crew, compared to walking through the school halls. (hello, ‘okey dokey yo’). his character always fiercely protected those around him and i just love seo-jun. i love that he came to pursue his career as an idol, and ended up debuting at the end. he worked so hard and deserved the world and more. and i have to say i hate the second male lead dramas, because they break my heart. he changed so much because im ju-kyung’s character grew him and challenged him in new ways. i knew seo-jun would not get the girl. i knew this from the start. did that stop me from loving his character? no. no, it didn’t. did it stop me from cheering for him, even though i loved suho? no. so who ends up heartbroken in the end with him? me. i do. so here i am weeks after the finale, thinking about how seo-jun told ju-kyung that suho was leaving for the states to  send her running after another guy, and ultimately bringing the two of them together. thinking about all those years suho was in the states, when seo-jun treasured their friendship and was with her quietly supporting her in her dreams, for her to ultimately leave for suho. sad. that’s what it is, the definition of sadness. and goodness gracious where is my seo-jun? i will love you and treasure you honey. you do not need ju-kyung, i got you boo.

i must add that hwang in-yeop can show up in my life any day, and i will graciously stop everything and marry this man. i love all of his dramas thus far, his character from the interviews i’ve seen, i love him. he is a favorite. i am expectant for the upcoming dramas he will surely steal the show in.  

the friendship between seo-jun and suho was so multifaceted. i love how we saw how their relationship was before when they were a trio, and then the brokenness when seo-jun blamed suho, to then seeing them come together because they realized they both cut one another off when they should have leaned on one another instead. it was sweet and i loved their bromance moments. they truly stole the show away. it was hilarious and fun with them together. and i appreciate that the relationship between suho and ju-kyung didn’t break the two apart in the end.  

i need to make note how much i love im ju-kyung’s family. like her siblings were iconic. her sister im hee-kyung and her relationship with eui-sik, the homeroom teacher. ICONIC. and im ju-young, her brother, and his precious attempts at winning seojun’s sister’s heart. PRECIOUS. i would 10 out of 10 watch a spin off with the focus on these characters. i loved when ju-kyung’s mom realized all the trauma that her daughter endured how she went to mending the broken pieces to rebuild their relationship. and i love how sweet her dad was, always encouraging her dreams. and i love how they all wanted the best for her, and supported her dreams of becoming a makeup artist. 

i am so sad that whenever we get a great friendship between our leading ladies they end up in awful relations at some point in the drama. our kang soo-jin and im ju-kyung were the best of friends. she even found out about ju-kyung’s secret and protected her to get back to the tent when they were on the trip. and then when ju-kyung started to date suho, soo-jin got everything twisted. i appreciate how suho let her know that no matter the situation he would not have ended up with her, because he didn’t see her in that way. and i loved the seo-jun put her in her place and confronted her for posting the photos of im ju-kyung online. i am thankful that we had the revelation for soo-jin’s character and came back to apologize to ju-kyung in the end. it was sweet and genuine. she came to see why she was like the way she was, grew from it, and apologized for her past behaviors. 

i love how suho and ju-kyung’s world’s connected. from the comic book store, to high school, to her sister working at his father’s music agency. it was complete destiny that they ended up together. i love a good ‘it is destiny, it was meant to be'. 

the webtoon drama inception was REAL. i loved that they added those little easter eggs throughout the drama with the little connections to ‘extraordinary you’. i loved it.

january rewind: 2021.

here’s to a new year, and hopefully a more timely me. i thoroughly enjoy looking back at my favorites from each month, and i hope to be able to commit to writing and rewinding my month well in the future. i hope you enjoy this journey with me, here is to january 2021.

junny. this man. i started listening to him last month, and have since dove head first into his discography. 10 out of 10 would recommend. and this man is a blessing and releases so many piano ballad versions which are incredible, and his solid vocals make you weep. ‘by my side’ incredible and stunning. ‘movie’ still a bop. and ‘thank you’ a blessing.

seventeen. i had the immense pleasure of attending their online concert ‘in-complete’ this month at the early hour of 3 am. and of course, leading up to the event i needed to listen to their entire discography, which has to many gems to name. it was a great time, being able to chat and see everyone reacting to the incredible stages our boys brought to life. it was the first online concert i attended and it was so much fun. i loved it and am thankful that it was seventeen, my OG boys. 

‘first love’ by NCT127. my boys never disappoint. our boys are back for 127 day, and i couldn’t be prouder of our multilingual kings. their vocals SLAY. i am expectant for their upcoming japanese comeback. and can we take a moment to appreciate their visuals on the cover art, like thank you irregular/regular era for originally bringing these looks, but thank you to this comeback because dang!

‘easy to love’ by key. an incredible track from a random station on apple music, and it is a VIBE. i love it and am disappointed i only just discovered this track. key’s vocals are no joke, and i love screaming these lyrics driving on the highway. 

‘a song easily written’ by oneus. y’all another blessing from this random station. this vibe and beat is everything, it’s a mix of island and edm. 10 out of 10 would recommend. and their vocals incredible. i love their harmonies, and the visuals in the music video INCREDIBLE. 

ost. my monthly playlist was accompanied by many ost tracks from the great dramas of this month including ‘true beauty’, ‘run on’ and ’18 again’. i love ost tracks, and the incredible emotions that come with them. i loved the fun cover that yuju brought to ‘i’m in the mood for dancing’. ‘hello’ by sohyang makes me want to weep. and ‘sorry’ by 2F, my goodness i cannot put into words how much i love this song and their vocals, i need more music from this duo! 

‘to you my light’ (feat lee raon) by maktub. this one was thanks to our main man seojun from ‘true beauty’. i wish they released hwang inyeop’s version as an ost, but you cannot always get what you want (but i am expectant for his ost to come very soon!!!) nevertheless, this track is beautiful and the lyrics make me want to cry. 

dramas & movies *spoilers alert*

private lives. honestly this one took a while for me to get into and then finish. i had major difficultly jumping into this one, and then finishing it was hard because the plot lost me a bit at the end. the characters were interesting and i have not really watched a drama of this mystery action nature. but i loved the actors that portrayed these multi facetted characters, like seriously i have no idea how they played this characters. there was so much plot and character development. it follows the story of a con man’s daughter, joo-eun. she wants to con people so that she can get back at the lady who conned her father when she was younger. in the series of events, she plays a character  and becomes involved with jeong-hwan, who surprise is also a fellow con-man (of course she doesn’t know at the time, they just lie and lie). it all becomes a tangled mess, and he disappears and appears to have died *gasp* and then he is alive *gasp agian*. and it just all is tangled and lots of crazy drama. she ends up working with the lady that conned her family years ago to get the ultimate bad man. and everyone teams up to take down the big conglomerate bad guys. i am thankful that i finished it. but the ending was lack luster for me, i don’t know what i wanted but what i got wasn’t it. i love gyung-pyo which is probably why i really wanted to finish it. i would rate it a 7 out of 10. 

18 again. jtbc never freaking disappoints in the drama department. i cannot believe it took me this long to watch this drama. it is absolutely incredible. up there in the top drama category. this may have it’s own upcoming post because there were too many aspects that i loved and need to relive and reflect. first and foremost, i must be honest i love hwang in-yeop. 10 out of 10 was the reason in needed to watch it, because i kept seeing his scenes rounding on instagram. and then of course our lee do-hyun is great, and has been fabulous in everything i’ve seen (hello, ‘hotel del luna’). so it was not hard to convince me to start it, and then of course i was drawn in completely by the storyline, the characters, the cinematography. my goodness i love what they did from the basic storyline from ’17 again’. like my goodness it was stunning and an incredible way to draw from one story and create a beautiful new story with more depth. i would 100 out of 10 recommend this incredible one. and it will definitely have it’s own post, as this is just the tip of the iceberg. 

live on. this was an interesting short drama. i watched mainly because our boys TXT were on the ost. and i was like yeah a nice high school drama, cute and refreshing let’s watch. it was nice, but like weird though. like our supposed protagonist, baek ho-rang, was interesting to say the least. like she thought it was better to be thought of as a bully than to be seen as a victim. i don’t quite get the logic and neither did those around her, but whatever. like she fell into this weird story that the bully hee-soo formulated and it was wack to say the least. ho-rang was cute with her friends and her relationship with eun-taek was cute. but like when all this went down, and her leaving her friends, weird. it took a minute to finish this one (but i think that was mainly because it took the subbers a while to finish for some reason on viki). must say i loved yoo-shin’s character and would have loved to see more of him and so-hyun. i guess i would rate this a 6 out of 10. 

february 2021 rewind is already going to be stellar with such incredible dramas coming to and end, i am not ready...’true beauty’, ‘run on’, ‘mr queen’, etc.

‘sandcastle’ by unvs. y’all this song is such a bop, and i am so sad i didn’t discover this one during the summer, because it is literally the definition of a summer jam. i love it. 10 out of 10 would recommend. 

‘make up’ (feat crush) by sam kim. this has and always will be a classic. whenever i see it anywhere it always goes on repeat. i love sam kim’s vocals. literally, it is honey. sooooo smoooth. i love this one, and had to give it a mention in this december rewind, because it made its way back to my playlist.

‘movie’ by junny. this was in the drama, ‘run on’. i love it. i heard a previous song from him, and i love his vocals. it’s really great, and really fit the drama i heard it in. but seriously love it and will add it to the soundtrack of my life. 

‘mmmh’ by kai. seriously must say thank you to all the yearly rewinds for re-introducing me to these gems that just weren’t my jam at release but owned my playlist in the last few weeks. it’s a bop, and kai did not disappoint with the visuals, choreo, and stunning vocals. we say thank you for this dramatic solo entrance.

‘zombie’ by day6. my goodness gracious day6 only releases stunning tracks and this one was beautiful. 10 out of 10 recommend looking at the translation for this one. i love them and their humble hearts that are literally just like everyone else. thank you for your vulnerability and we appreciate you all. 

‘monster’ by red velvet - irene & seulgi. these ladies have the most stunning vocals! i love this pairing especially. it just screams ‘i am a boss butt lady and i don’t play no games.’ i love it. 

‘okey dokey’ by mino & zico. if you know you know. thank you ‘true beauty’ for reminding me of this jam from forever ago. i remember it from some variety shows, but my goodness it brought it to a new light seeing our seo-joon dancing away. it’s a bop and must be listened to while driving on the highway at full blast, or while getting ready at home hahaha. 

dramas and movies. *spoiler alert*

start up. yes this one already has it’s own post, because it was that great. if you wish to see all my thoughts on this drama here is my review. (and a gif of my man kim seon-ho/ hjp, freaking loved this character for him.) 9.5 out of 10 for the drama (our man hjp a 10 out of 10). 

more than friends. y’all when i say i was super excited for this one, i am not playing. i love ong seong wu. like really truly i was soooo stoked for this drama. honestly maybe i was expecting another ‘at eighteen’ or what, but it took a while to process that it wasn’t going to be a ‘sweet high school reconnect and fall in love drama’ with all the pretty bows. maybe because of that i waited a while to continue watching, because i wanted that happy ending for them. but i did finish it and i am soooo glad they ended up together, however there was so much to overcome. and i see now that the goal of the writers was to display that realistic aspect to the relationships present in the drama. they were unexpected, had lingering attachments to other things in life from family impacting the relationship to their pasts etc. after accepting this fact i really enjoyed it. and honestly i did not like ong seong wu’s character like at all, but he really portrayed the character well and i loved the development that we saw in his character throughout the drama. there were so many moments that i loved and made my heart happy. like when he first figured out that he liked her and caught himself taking a photo of her, when he had never before captured people in his photography. i loved it and i would definitely give this one a watch if you’re in the mood for the realistic, bad timing fricks up life kind of watch. i would give it an 8 out of 10. p.s. we love it when our talented vocalists release an ost with their dramas thank you honey for the blessing that is ‘late regret’ and my sad heart that it brings back when i listen. also loved ‘close your eyes’ by bernard park.

tale of the nine-tailed. this was an interesting one and i loved the fantasy whole new world aspect to figure out. once again i freaking loved this cast line up. so i was awaiting this one, and my goodness it did not disappoint. and i must say that that ending left me with so many questions and i would appreciate another season, but rather than heart break have it light and happy with a family or something nice and refreshing like that. no fighting. horrible person/thing that is out to get everyone. it was sooo goood. and unexpected. i would 9 out of 10 recommend giving this gem a watch.

ep 1

ladies and gents it’s going to be a good one. i loved being able to see this backstory to lay all the groundwork for the future of the drama.

his story is devastating as a young individual unable to make his way into the world and then making a way to find it isn’t how he expected and lost a real thing he had with the relationship with the her grandmother. but the redemption when he goes to see her again.

this was a stellar episode. from both teams using the same data set and coming up with wildly different ideas to samsan tech almost crashing down. but setting a fire to dosan to do better and be more ambitious. i’m so excited.

our girl killed her presentation yes queen. you got this. the fact that the boys created a whole new software. these folks would be crazy to not invest.

this alex guy really believes in them i’m excited to see if there will be rivalry between the two hot shot ceo’s

the fact that her grandma doesn’t regret not sending her to college but rather regrets not meeting him earlier to support and encourage him made me cry.

this was a great episode. so much happened in the development of their little company. disorder and disagreements led to stronger relations within the company.

i love how she picked the mentor. like yup i know alex is the biggest deal since slice bread but you’re our homie.

the fact that dosan was ready to come clean about the letters but overheard the grandmother get a sad report from the doctors and wanted to protect her and her granddaughter. so sad.

i really need more than a second male lead for this man. i can’t stand the way he looks at her. he loves her and is trying so hard to shut off his heart to her.

i love the bickering between the two male leads. like seriously hilarious.

i love the sweet relationship that nam dosan will now have with her grandmother. and i love the idea concept he had for their business. a beautiful heart behind the machine.

dosan standing up for her and standing against this horrible man out to exploit their talent.

i don’t know what it is but i really am not about dosan’s character for some reason. i really just want jipyeong to be honest from the start and he could have ended up with her.
