A Sign of Compassion

It was very unlike Davy Jones to have any sense of compassion at all, let alone to show it.

Before you had come along, Davy Jones was only seen as merciless and downright cruel, but you seemed to soften his heartless heart. Though he may act a little differently now, he was in no way like this when you first encountered each other.

You’ve seen him at his worst, and upon seeing a lot of what you’ve seen of him, you didn’t think he could change. That was until you both suddenly find yourselves slowly becoming close with each other. How it all started was a funny story, you didn’t agree with the ways of Davy Jones, but you also wanted to be willing to do anything to avoid his wrath and followed every order given to you. It was rather a difficult task for you to do, but you were more willing then others to go through with it, to save yourself from being sent to the depths. When you took more notice of Davy’s presence around you, you would be lying if you had said it didn’t make you nervous or worry at all, and you were very good at keeping a straight face and not show any sense of fear. Little did you know, he slowly started to gain a liking towards you and you would soon start taking a liking to him. The more you accepted orders, the more he started building his trust of you, even if he gave you something you really didn’t want to do, you didn’t question it and instead, got it done. After a few weeks, he had decided to put his trust in you to the rest and sent you off with his crew to recover the chest that contained his heart. As usual, you agreed and went to complete the ultimate task, and you succeeded.

When you returned with the chest, you had returned with an injury as well. The injury had come from fighting against rogue pirates who swung their swords at you. Your arm was used as a shield to protect your face, as that was your initial target. As you hand the chest over to Davy, he noticed the injury right away and grew angry, thinking that it had come from one of the crew, and instantly questioned you about it, to which you had answered.

“Did they hurt you? Where does it hurt? Where else does it hurt?”

You immediately knew he was referring to someone from the crew, so you begin to reassure him what happened.

“It’s nothing, just a small wound. It didn’t come from anyone from the crew, it was from a pirate who tried to slice my face with the blade of a sword.”

Davy didn’t look at all convinced, but didn’t say anything more.

What he did next was out of the ordinary, he barked at Bootstrap Bill to attend your wound before stepping away. The first thought that came to mind was you somehow knew he wanted to be the one to take care of you, but the next thing that came to mind was that Davy didn’t want to show he had any sort of compassion to the men onboard. Which was understandable to you. He was Davy Jones after all, and he didn’t want to be known by any other reputation. That was always to be expected, however, as you were close to falling asleep, you hear the recognizable footsteps of Davy Jones approaching outside the door of your cabin. You knew he had come by to see how you were holding up as you let him believe you were fast asleep.

The following day, you were doing the normal routine of your duties when you were approached by him yet again. What came next was completely unexpected and took you by surprise.

You were ordered to take it easy and was made to keep watch as the ship continues to sail to the next destination. During the time being, you couldn’t help but think that maybe he wasn’t so bad after all.

You would soon be proven right about that.
