Thank you so much for this wonderful fic!!!!
Tumblr media
Footprints by the Lethe, a fic by @omgkatsudonplease for @kailuwowie
Yuuri’s video of him skating ‘Stay Close to Me’ goes viral, and in that moment Viktor’s life flashes before him. The story is simple: he goes to Japan, he becomes Yuuri’s coach, he wins Yuuri’s respect and love. Then blah, blah, something something gold medal in the GPF, a wedding, and happily ever after. It’s perfect.
Until it isn’t.

Hey everyone, I hate to be doing this but, uh. I just found out that I need to get my wisdom teeth removed before they impact the nerves of my jaw, but even with insurance the surgery is 500 USD and my parents can’t help me pay for it. I do have a little money, but all of that is going to my car payments and student loans, so if I could have some help in defraying the costs of this unexpected surgery that would be super duper helpful!
Pricing (SFW)
500 words minimum / 5000 words maximum
5 USD for 500 words
10 USD for 1000 words
3 USD for every 100 words past 1k, up to 5k

In Defense of Kudos
Confession- Kudos make me HAPPY.
I keep every story comment and every Kudos email from Ao3.
Tumblr media
That one click per reader is a good thing. I’m blessed that they come regularly, nearly every day.  It gives me a lift to see a new person leave kudos on more than one of my stories.  I ‘SQUEE’ and say, for instance, “Hey there, ClockWeasel.  Welcome! Thank you for all the love!  I wish I could hug you right now.”  :)  It tells me they liked one of my stories enough that they looked for more from me.
It makes me want to finish WIPS and write more stories.
So, yeah, comments and reblogs are AMAZING.  It’s a dream come true to read a thoughtful question or insight RE a story that I put thought and time and effort into.
But, Kudos matter, too.
Thank you to every reader who has given me the gift of Kudos!

I am really bothered by this nony's ask. It feels like the only way to show appreciation to what you read is by always taking time to leave a comment because, wow, it only takes a few minutes to say something nice versus taking hours or even days to writing a good fanfic. This is like publishing a review for every movie I watch or book I read - which is just not physically possible unless I actually work on a publication and needs to churn out reviews for a living. Leaving kudos is like telling my friends to watch this movie or read this book which takes a couple of seconds but the appreciation is still there. Also, I always thought that writing fanfiction is sort of my way of showing appreciation to the fandom I'm writing for. If people love my fic, then I am definitely over the moon for it whether it be by kudos or comments. It's really baffling to see all this debate, to be honest. It's just sad that for something meant to be positive, people look at the negative instead. This actually applies to all Social Media Platforms (tumblr, fb, insta, twitter, etc.)
Sorry to keep coming back with this idea, but the "reading takes time too" argument doesn't work for me, because you get enjoyment out of your time. When I watch a movie it also takes time, but I don't "pay back" to the makers with my time: I buy the movie/pay the tickets. And since fanfiction (and fanwork in general, I also think we need to appreciate more all our creators) is free, giving them feedback is the onyl thing one has to give back.
In the ask that I think you’re referencing, I was talking about how authors say that kudos takes a second and a comment takes a minute and how those comments make it seem like they’re not taking into account the time it takes for a reader to read the fic.
Making a movie takes 6 months to a year and you enjoy it for two hours. So if we’re talking about time investment you watching the movie is basically like giving it kudos.
Also, you’re making it sound like you don’t get any enjoyment out of the writing? But I might be misinterpreting you there.
I’m not saying I don’t want readers to leave more feedback on the stories they read. Far from it. I’d love to encourage more feedback any way that I can. But the keyword for me is encourage.
In the past, I’ve been angry, bitter, depressed, despondent, [insert negative emotion adjective here] and I’m putting a concerted effort these days into being positive. The idea of feedback being “payment” implies a level of obligation that I’m just not comfortable with. No matter how much I want more feedback.
If I’m misunderstanding you, please let me know.

I didn't even realize that some (or is it a lot?) authors didn't like the kudos system. The thing is, not all readers are confident enough to give a well written review but still want to show the author how much they love reading their fic. The kudos system solves that, which for me is about the same as leaving a one line comment of "This fic is great, I love it".
I keep seeing posts from writers saying they don't like kudos and they only want comments. I thought kudos were a good thing?
Kudos are a good thing.
I get excited by my AO3 “You’ve got kudos!” just like I do for comments, and I know other writers do too. I think the issue stems from a difference in perspective between writers and their audiences.
Writers see giving kudos as meaning, “This fic meets my minimum requirements for liking a thing. It’s not great, but it’s not that bad. I can give it a thumbs up, sure. Why not?”
On the other hand, readers often mean, “This was great! I really liked it! Good job, Author! Thumbs up for you!”
Because authors know how important feedback is to us, we tend to write comments for the good stories and kudos for the “okay” ones. If we don’t like it at all, we pretend we never read it by doing neither.
Unfortunately, we assume readers approach things the same way. That’s why we can sometimes be dismissive of kudos. We’re looking at it from our perspective rather than from the reader’s.
This is also why we get discouraged if we have 1000 hits and 20 kudos. To us, that means that 980 people didn’t feel like our story met the bare minimum requirement to be considered “okay.”

Karatsu, Saga… aka real life Hasetsu!
Read below the cut for more pictures and my experience/tips on visiting Yuuri’s hometown ~
Our journey began with a flight to Tokyo to Fukuoka, which was surprisingly cheaper than the shinkansen (or other options). Once there, we got lucky and boarded the same model train as Yuuri & Victor that’s shown in the ED to Karatsu (a model 305 on the Kuko line)!
Tumblr media
As soon as we stepped off the platform at Karatsu station, it was like stepping straight into the anime.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First thing we did at Karatsu station was go to the Visitor’s Center, where we filled out a questionnaire about our demographics and then received the official Stamp Rally booklet!
The Stamp Rally takes you all around Saga, and if you collect all 9 stamps you get 3 stickers, 3 postcards, and a “citizen of Hasetsu” certificate. Most of the stamps you need to collect are in locations you’ll already probably visit, but 2 are super far away if you don’t have a car. We were able to get to those 2 by taking the bus- we asked the man at the visitor’s center for help with routes.
Aside from the stamp rally, we also got the official YOI Scene Map, which shows all the iconic locations from the show (like in the first 4 pictures)
With our maps and itabags in hand, we started the pilgrimage!!!
Tumblr media
Kyomachi arcade- the tiger sweatshirt wasn’t for sale, sadly…
Tumblr media
Minako’s bar! (closed in the daytime)
Tumblr media
The ema we made at Karatsu shrine. The shrine is full of other people’s with way cuter drawings, and wishes for season 2 and the movie!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
#ninja (inside is not a ninja house, sadly… yuuri got my hopes up)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hamamatsu coast where they had their #talk and the iconic ED showers!
Tumblr media
Kagamiyama onsen time! It’s actually a 15 min drive from central Karatsu.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We soaked in the baths, and then got to try the glorious katsudon. Yuuri wasn’t lying this time- it was sooo good!!!
Tumblr media
I thought it was interesting you could buy Victor’s onsen robe for ~$45 USD
Tumblr media
This was the lobby of the awesome inn we stayed at, the Riverside Inn Karatsu Castle. They went above and beyond for us, and the inn owner literally DROVE us in her car to eat YOI udon when we asked for restaurant recommendations.
The owner then told us that the Inn’s location is the same as Yutopia’s is in the anime, so it’s as close as you can get to staying in Yuuri’s house. (Side note, all the rooms inside the inn are named after the Karatsu kunchi festival’s floats, one of which is Chihoko… we ended up with Chihoko’s room in Yuuri’s house)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Makino udon shop - Victor’s udon! It had beef and burdock tempura… so goooood! The boy has good taste.
Tumblr media
An absolute highlight was eating dinner at Caravan, a steak restaurant who’s chef is a huuuge fan of YOI (and Kubo really likes his food!). He threw a Stammi Vicino wedding ceremony (shown above), a Theme of King JJ Sing along, and more. Chef was soooo nice, and it was cool meeting other fans there as well!! Not to mention, the steak was amazing. This is absolutely a must-see place for anyone coming to Karatsu for YOI!
Tumblr media
Chef’s special drinks! Modeled after the shochu we see Victor drinking in the anime/being served at Yutopia, but soda versions. The real stuff is gross, but these aren’t!! Left is Victor (strawberry) and right is Yurio (lemon)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Victor’s bike was on display at the Karatsu Royal Hotel, along with a cute kiss and cry display area! We didn’t stay here, but the stuff was open to the public.
Tumblr media
I thought it was cute how one of the Karatsu jewelry shops was selling their rings!!!!
Tumblr media
Our journey ended back in Fukuoka, where we tracked down (what we THINK is) the exact stall where Victor ate Nagahama ramen. Definitely vkusno.
These were just some of the highlights of the trip- everyone in Karatsu was SO NICE and it was such a beautiful place to be. If you ever get the chance, please go visit!

In which Sephiroth remembers the opposite of love isn’t hate, it’s indifference. And “indifferent” is something he’s never been, not when it comes to Cloud Strife.
Hate is just love without the light. And maybe it’s time for dawn.
(see i promised it wouldn’t be three years between updates lol)
