A rant on Kamina (w: an utter mess and spoilers)
Tumblr media
OH MY GOD. I hadn't emotionally invested myself in a character since Eren Yeager last year. So when hands up towards the sky, quote-making, volcano-like Kamina came in Gurren Lagann, I absolutely attached myself to him. Keep in mind I haven't seen Gurren Lagann completely yet, but Kamina's death shattered my heart. I shut down the entire television once he said, " See you later, buddy." I didn't cry but I am hundred per cent sure I went through a hole-in-my-chest phase like Bella Swan from Twilight.
I adored him so much, and I understand why he had to die. But I definitely did not expect Gurren Lagann to pack the angst it did. It's odd that I gave so much to a character who only lasted for 8 episodes. But every time I look at Simon, I see the unwavering Kamina behind him. With his hand towards the moon screaming drill through the heavens Simon.
I don't think I'll come across a character like him ever again.

"You know why people have eyes in the front? Because they have to move forward to see the landscape in the distance... if you had eyes in back all you could see is your home town getting farther away, you can't move forward like that. If your eyes are in front what you see in the distance keeps getting closer, that's what lets people move forward."

"Your heart is like a great river after a long spell of rain, spilling over its banks. All signposts that once stood on the ground are gone, inundated and carried away by the rush of water. And still the rain beats down on the surface of the river. Every time you see a flood like that on the news you tell yourself: That's it. That's my heart."

"Not that running away's going to solve everything. I don't want to rain on your parade or anything, but I wouldn't count on escaping this place if I were you. No matter how far you run. Distance might not solve anything."

The Boy Named Crow
I have been waiting forever to read this book. I came across it when I was 14, but decided to wait till I was 15, as old as Kafka, to read it.
This isn't my first Murakami read (that title goes to Norwegian Wood) ,however, this prologue was intense. The good-type-of-intense. I loved it.
This "Crow" seems have the character trope of Clever Crows (if he ends up actually being a crow, which I think he is) .
It starts off with Crow interrogating Kafka, giving us the insight that Kafka is running away from this "place" and in order to get the money to sustain himself, is giving himself into practices such as rifling.
Crow already draws in attention. From him enacting to be lazy but smart, questioning Kafka, bringing out the qualities of Kafka to the readers.
My favourite part, and I suppose everyone's favourite part out of this prologue is the description of the sandstorm. It took me 3 reads to actually absorb its essence.
This storm is a phase I believe every human comes across once. I, myself haven't gone through mine yet, but when I do I'm going to be "the world's toughest 15 year old"(or however old I will be). At least, I hope to be.
On that note, Crow might be an imaginary character Kafka willed up. I have no backing to this notion but Crow seems to be some sort of support system to Kafka.
"As if he were carving the words in a deep blue tattoo on my heart."
From the first glance, Crow is a character I usually love.
And Kafka, is blank.
He's this clean slate. I could not draw any distinct trait from him. Except for the fact that he trusts Crow.
I guess he's waiting for his storm that Crow seems to make vanish.
