Just remembered I first knew Park Sung Hoon as the psychopath in Psychopath Diary. And he was damn good at it. So it makes sense how much repulsion he inspires in me in Queen of Tears. I'm at ep 5 and truly I hate his character. In that way where he makes me angry.
He really does have the range, last time I saw him was in Not Others, and I loved him then. Not to mention Into the Ring.

Looks like ep4 is where the drama gets good!!
But did we need the orphaned dog-killing psychopath in this drama? I'm sure a less ott villain could've done just as well to inspire protective instincts. But then everything is other the top so I guess it fits. Hopefully this isn't a case of demonstrating"if you aren't raised by your blood relatives you'll turn into a criminal."
ETA: I hate him more with each minute of his screen time. He's so aggravating.
Queen of Tears #2
it feels a bit extreme how happy he is about the diagnosis. they were in love once. but i guess it's funnier that way?
there is such a distance between them. at this point it's difficult to understand how they got to be married.
a competitive family hunting trip does feel like a thing only the ultrarich would think to do. the cgi wild boar tho 😂

ep1: i can tell this visit to the therapist is supposed to be kinda funny since his life is sooo extremely miserable in a specific chaebol drama way. but actually it's making me sad. he's so thoroughly trapped, it's scary.
ok i didn't want to watch queen of tears because i kinda promised myself i'd pass on any terminal illness drama. for a while there it felt like like every other kdrama had this plot point. and i got really tired of it.
but everyone says this is good so i'm giving it a shot. and at least i'm warned and it's not sprung on me.

Na Ah-Jeong, let's get married. Please let me be your husband. Not your brother-in-law, and not your manager. Not a lover you can stop seeing at any given moment after a fight. Even if we fight, we'll still sleep in the same bed that night. In the middle of the night, we can go watch a movie holding hands. When you doze off in the morning, I can dry your hair instead. A husband who cleans the floor all day with a lint roller because of that hair. Let me be a husband like that to you.

the thing is, even tho some of the plot is messy, i still really like ah jeong and ji han together!!
and that was a cute proposal. tbh i love the intimacy and spontaneity of it. and no jewelry ad wow.
although the timing is questionable, as they have been broken up. and i would've liked him to do it before asking her parents to take him in. which should've come after realising the boyfriend was fake.
(why another fake cheating plot point?? have we not suffered enough??)

Quick Wedding Impossible thoughts:
#1 is no one gonna tell do han being gay is nothing to apologize for? i really wanted his brother or friend to acknowledge that their society is fucked up for caring about his s*xual orientation, and tell him they're sorry he has to go through that.
#2 ah jeong citing do han's "forced" public coming out as a reason to break up is just??? i mean you have to show me how it's negatively impacting do han for me to get why she feels guilty. we see him happily leaving for new york. no backlash shown, everything is implied.
#3 everyone really is torturing themselves with guilt about anything but what they should? eg grandpa could be feeling bad about his cover up but that's not what he mentions...
#4 will this convoluted car accident story fully make sense next ep? not sure... and am i crazy or does ji han and do han's dad never get mentioned? i feel like i missed something or we have a plot hole on our hands.

your marriage is in shambles after 3 years of hell (so it's saying a lot), your wife is terminally ill and you desperately cling to your fucked up cold war married dynamic to keep her alive, but a tiny part of you still wants to believe in her so you call for a secret raccoon that supposedly lives in the terrace garden because deep down you have never stopped believing and loving hong haein.

Wei Wuxian, post-resurrection: in retrospect, maybe I took “If anything happens to Jiang Yanli or these Wens, I’m going to kill everyone in this room and then myself” a little too seriously.

Some of the criticism of the show is valid and some of it is just...people lacking any sort of nuance or comprehension skills.
1) "They are stupid and irresponsible for being together in the public". Yes, but also the public doesn't know ji han is a chaebol and ah jeung is a no name actress. The public also doesn't know who Dohan's financee is. Only the wedding has been announced. It's not surprising at all that the two dumbasses thought they could be together without being seen. Ji han has no reason to believe his step siblings would send a reporter after him knowing it's Dohan's position they are after. Something so obvious shouldn't be have to be spelled out by the writers for you lot.
2) "How could that bitxh Ah jeong have the audacity to have feelings that don't revolve around Dohan? She should have continued being miserable and uncomfortable because it is only Dohan's safety and comfort that matters." No woman should put herself through so much pain for another man not even for her gay best friend. If you want to watch women make decisions centered around their relationship with a man then plenty of shitty BLS and works by incels with one dimensional fl characters exist.
3) Dohan, ji ahn and ah jeong are flawed human beings. None of their mistakes deprive them of their humanity and their right to love and be loved.
4) kdrama viewers have a meltdown every time a character makes decisions that are not the most ethically, culturally or rationally correct. It's not bad writing if a character makes a terrible choice CONSISTENT with their character.
5) But the outrage is always more loud for a FEMALE character every single fucking time. Like clockwork. Not only are you guys consistently boring with the demand for characters to stay conventional but also consistently MISOGYNISTIC.
6) Both ji han and ah jeong fought their feelings for each other before finally giving in. It wasn't immediate. They both are clearly guilty. Both of them wanted to talk to Dohan about this. He was the first person they wanted to talk to. He was on their minds on the date too. They only went out together as a couple to a STRANGE PLACE for ONE DAY where they thought they would be safe. Why are people acting like they have been hiding their relationship for ages? They didn't even get the chance to be public yet. NO, THEM ROAMING IN A STRANGE PLACE DOESN'T COUNT AS PUBLIC BECUASE NO ONE AROUND THEM KNOWS.
7) MEDIA SHOULD NEVER CATER TO YOUR MORALES OR FEELINGS. This world consists of average people who make horrible choices and who hurt themselves and others. I like watching them on screen. Hope more kdramas are courageous enough to experiment with genuine character flaws that aren't just being 'quirky' or a 'tsundere'.
8) None of the characters one this show are 'morally dubious or gray'. They just are people with flaws. Idk maybe read a book or two or watch peaky blinders.

been pondering this as well. do han speaks of "breathing room" but he would basically be living the same lie as before. except he might look "worse" if he slips up. "this man cheated on his wife with another man" that kind of thing.
but playing devil's advocate, he has been terribly anxious since someone (i'm now suspecting grandpa) sent him the new york pics. the marriage would be a good temporary shield against an imminent scandal. maybe. he could say "i'm not gay, i even have a wife."
i wonder if there's someone he wants to protect in new york. although the drama doesn't say. but i kinda get thinking he'd get a few years living with no fear of being outed. i get the appeal for a person who's been living in a constant state of anxiety, probably his entire life. it's just that a fake marriage doesn't seem like the kind of miracle he expects it to be?
What I don't understand with DoHan being so set on that fake marriage is that it.. has no use ?
He wanted to marry someone who wouldn't get the grandpa's approval so he wouldn't have to deal with the company (and basically get disowned ?) except the grandpa did approuve, and is still pushing the company unto DoHan so, what's the point ? Beside having the media/public think he has a wife, and that's only for 3 years, so not like that'd be a life long gay screen.
If he wants to run off to new York, the married part is not necessary ??
