Imagine this as one of the scenes you can see in the background while at Horseshoe Overlook.

Imagine if like Hosea and Mary beth were talking at the table. Mary beth is essentially interviewing Hosea for future references for her book. Hosea, being a natural born storyteller (and great conman), tells her the story of how he met Dutch and all the countless stories of him, Dutch, Arthur, and John.

Eventually Hosea starts talking about Bessie. Mary beth’s eyes just immediately light up at the mention of her (we know she’s a huge sucker for romance). So eventually the whole discussion just turns into Hosea gushing about his wife and their romance and Mary beth is writing down everything he says. Like she was writing before but now she’s just writing everything. Near the end of their discussion Hosea starts crying a bit and Mary beth hands him her handkerchief. After a minute Mary beth says this.

Mary beth: Bessie sounds like an incredible woman.

Hosea: Oh, she was. She was an incredible, beautiful, and kind woman. And she would have loved to meet you.

Mary beth: You really think so?

Hosea: Oh yes, you two would have hit it off right away. To be honest, your a lot like her.

i think it is so important for characters like Nick Nelson to exist because it shows people that even if you didn’t always know who exactly you are attracted to, you are still entirely valid in your sexuality. Charlie tells Nick that he always knew that he was attracted to boys, which is portrayed many times in literature in media, that a character always knew they were gay and i think this is very relatable for some people. but i think that some people don’t realize that even if you spent your whole life thinking that you only liked certain people, that doesn’t mean you can’t find out now that you are actually attracted to other people. we as people are allowed to grow and learn things about ourselves and it is entirely valid for this to apply to your sexuality as well.
