why does everything seem better in retrospect?
we have so much trauma in the past and yet it still seems better than living in the present.

i imagined my life would be so much different than this. i imagined dumb nights on rooftops and glowing sunsets with first kisses and skateboarding through the middle of nowhere with a cigarette in my hand because i don’t really care if i died, i was already doing everything i ever wanted to. i imagined new cities and new faces and relocating to someplace nobody knows me and being mysterious and dancing under the moonlight with champagne courage. i feel so stuck and so old.

i miss spontaneity. i miss talking to strangers and finding things in common. i miss screaming “what are the odds!?!” when recognizing a familiar face far from home. i miss gallivanting around the city with sara, in our honeymoon phase, and seeing people lined up on the sidewalk and getting in line with them. we didn’t know what we were even in line for - it was a rooftop bar and it ended up being a great night. the world is scary and cold and unfamiliar and i just am lusting for a little adventure.

“she laughs or disagrees when i tell her that her beauty doesn’t compare to any other person nor any wonder of the world. i laugh at the idea that she couldn’t see a magnificent piece of art within the same eyes i imagine being painted somewhere in a great chapel or museum..”

“you say i never think of you and you’re wrong. i think of you every time i’m able to smile and feel love, for you deprived me of it for much too long”
