Hey, Seblainers! Hellooooo, everyone else!
Seblainintine's Extended Weekend 2024
A fortnight exactly to go, so without further ado, here's what you need to know.
The Rules
When?
The event runs from Wednesday 14th February until 23:59 (of your own timezone) on Sunday 18th February 2024.
Who can take part?
Anyone and everyone who shares our love of Seblaine!
What can we submit?
Anything, as long as it is Seblaine-related! Fics, Graphics, Gifs, Gifsets, Videos, Manips, Playlists, Lyrics - anything you like as long as it fits the themes! I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.
Please remember to use #seblaineworld and #seblainintines2024 within the first five tags, and also put @seblaineworld somewhere in your posts, since we all know just how flaky Tumblr can be about tags!
Please be sensible and considerate. We're all very well aware that not everyone shares our love of Seblaine, and even within our own tiny (but always fierce!) Seblainer Fandom, there are those who don't enjoy mature content, so please ensure you tag everything that you submit, appropriately.
Can I cross-post/combine themes?
Yes! You can combine any of the three themes that you want. And if your contribution does combine multiple themes, just remember to properly tag all themes used. There are no set days for the three themes this time.
As a reminder, your themes for this event are:
Roses and Chocolate
Love Language
Red and Blue
Perhaps you'll want to write about the journey they take to finally getting together, some of our talented angst-loving Seblainers might want to write or illustrate something relating to one or both of them ending up heartbroken - before putting them back together. Or could it be about Seblaine celebrating Valentine's Day itself? It’s completely up to you, as long as Roses and Chocolate, Love Language, or Red and Blue are clearly shown as the main theme. You can, of course, mix two or all three of the themes in one submission if you like.
I can’t wait to see what you all come up with. They're on a Valentine's vacation in Venice - the other City of Love in the announcement graphic, but I'm sure all of our incredibly talented Seblainers will come up with some wonderful and imaginative scenarios.
Can I post on any day during the event?
Yes! You can post on any day or all five days.
Do I need to submit something for each theme?
Absolutely not. If you want to contribute something for all three themes, then as stated above, of course you can, but it's not a requirement at all. I know everyone has busy lives, so just do what you can when you can.
Can I post a WIP or work that fits the themes even if I started it before the Seblainintine's Extended Weekend 2024 announcement?
Absolutely! I have done this before and feel it's a great way to refresh creativity, so feel free to post anything you've already started, providing it fits the themes!
When do we start posting?
As soon as it becomes Wednesday 14th February 2024 in your own timezone, post your work to your Tumblr blog, and as mentioned above, please tag it #seblaineworld and #seblainintines2024 and make sure those two are in your first five tags. Please also put @seblaineworld somewhere in your post.
If you're going to be posting your work to another site like AO3 or ff.net, post a properly tagged link on your Tumblr.
There will be a Seblainintine's Extended Weekend 2024 Collection added to AO3 next week.
Can I post late?
Yes! I know how time can occasionally run away from us all, so everything posted will be reblogged until Friday February 23rd February.
You haven’t reblogged my work yet!
No problem! Again, because Tumblr can be (very!) erratic, just send us an Ask or message if we haven't reblogged your work within 24 hours of you posting it, and one of us will get onto it right away.
So, that's it! I'm really excited to see all your work, and as always, if you have any questions in the meantime, just drop me an Ask or message. See you all on Wednesday, February 14th!
Ail 💜

can't believe i'm doing this, but i'm gonna kinda defend kurt here.
(preface, i do understand the impulse of anger/defensiveness of blaine,i *feel* it, and i absolutely love all the seblaine potential with it, and yes, we definitely agree on the last part. but yeah, playing defense here. for some reason.)
let's try to view it from his pov. blaine spent most of the night dancing with the guy he says is harmless, but anyone can see is not (blaine being into sebastian while telling everyone - including himself - he isn't, probably isn't helping there). so there's jealousy, plus insecurity, and i think kurt has the whole "am i sexy enough" thing going on again - see both the episode sexy in season 2, as well as him being laughed from stage when he tries to audition for a leading man. and then sebastian shows up, is effortlessly flirty and masculine, and blaine's eating it up, pretending he isn't. so, can't really blame him for being pissed. plus, he's sober and blaine is really drunk. and sure, blaine's fun drunk, but gooood, have you ever had to babysit a really happy drunk person when you were sober, possibly even pissed at that person? i once had to babysat the guy i liked (who had a girlfriend) while he was on mdma and i could have fucking strangled him.
and then, the person you're jealous and insecure about, who's also really been pissing you off all night, has the brilliant idea to have sex in the parking lot in front of a gay bar. also, that would be your first time having sex. when you're insecure, and also have romantic ideas, not to mention the guy is so drunk, there's a chance he won't remember the next day. (i mean, realistically that's bs, but we're in the head of a teenager with very limited exposure to alcohol, so in his mind, that would make more sense)
given all that, i do think kurt is entitled to be pissed. all that established, let's get to the final point of defense. now, with this one i have to admit, i'm relying on my memory. it's been AGES since i've seen the episode, and i won't go back and look at it now. but wasn't blaine the one who said he'll walk? as far as i recall, they're fighting, and blaine then says he'll walk.
now, is this dangerous? hell yeah. would it be the responsible thing to call him an idiot and put him back into the car? definitely. can i blame kurt after all these paragraphs of not actively fighting to get blaine into the car, after he's pissed, and after they fought, and after blaine decides to walk off? given the circumstances and the whole teenager-ness of it all - no.
all that being said, the scene is of course a gold mine for seblaine. because of course sebastian is the one who got him home (hopefully in a cab, that's my headcanon), and of course they had a nice long talk about it all. and of course, blaine will think it's all very unfair, and of course, sebastian looks like such a good and helpful friend. it's angsty, it's dramatic, it's delicious. but let's not go overboard with kurt. he screws up enough as it is.
(now, if we're discussing that kurt apparently never checked up on blaine and the next time they talked was *after* the west side story premiere... but that's another issue)
can we talk about how Kurt just like,, leaves blaine in a gay bar parking lot in the first time after their fight? like he presumably just lets blaine storm off and drives away without making sure he gets home okay?? huH???
(side note, we all agree Sebastian is the one who gets him home safe after this, right?)

A strange alien doctor stands near the unconscious body of Padme Amidala. “It appears she has lost the will to live.” A older man with a limp hobbles closer with the aid of a cane. “That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard,” says Dr. Gregory House.

so, out of universe i needed a sister name and wanted one that sounded french but would work in english as well, her being half-french/half-american and all. my first thought of female french names is cosette from les mis, but the name feels childish, not fitting for the more mature, older sister. so that turned to colette. in-universe, that's a shortening of nicolette. also, initially i meant for her to be called nicolette beauvoir, taking her mother's maiden name, but given how that relationship isn't all that well, i went back to nicolette smythe. although in the designer scene, people refer to her as beauvoir
Why is your OC named what they're named? Is there a different reason in-universe than out-of-universe?

So I read this book... Rouge
Tumblr media
Rouge by Mona Awad.
you might notice, this is the second in a row by the same author. what can i say, i went shopping like the same week i finished listening to bunny, and when i saw this, i had to get it.
Summary: ever since her childhood, belle has been obsessed with beauty - specifically, her mother's beauty. except while her mother lives in style and sun in california, belle lives in the shadows of montreal, every free minute spent on instagram stories by her favorite skin care influencer. do not get me started on the myriad of products she uses to keep her skin young. her monotonous life is disrupted when her mother dies. while sorting out her mother's affairs, she stumbles upon a... spa? cult hangout? scientology knockoff? that her mother used to go to, called Rouge. it messes with her mind, but oh, the effects on her skin are so worth it, are they not, daughter of noelle? as she sinks deeper into their clutches, her own grip of reality and self wash away, until it might be too late to escape...
General Feelings: so, this book is amazingly trippy and insane. maybe even more than bunny, you get dragged onto a ride that has you doubting everyone's sanity, bleeding supernatural forces into oh so mundane activities. like, i feel belle's obsession with that influencers feels so... mundane. real life. phone-bound. and contrast that to rouge and everything being so weird and culty. belle's slipping grip on reality is written in such a fascinating way. does this book need some suspension of disbelief? duh. sure. are the supernatural elements explained: nope. not even a little. it's vague and disturbing, but very interestingly written. with bunny, this annoyed me a little, but in rouge,i don't even mind.
Recommendation: oh my god, yes. i loved this so much. i don't even want to go into any spoilers. it's just such a wild ride, and definitely worth checking out. with two hits so far, i'll check out more of mona awad's books, i love the style.

DO IT.
thinking of writing a collection of canon compliant one shots that are just like snapshots of seblaine’s friendship during season 3/4/5 - there would be zero plot lol just silent pining and them being the best of friends

So I read that book... Bunny
woo, we can continue this. so, title is a lie because i didn't read it, i listened to the audiobook, but i refuse to let that stop me. counting audiobooks bolsters my book count and therefore (somehow) my confidence. (also, with audiobooks it's very likely i mistype some names because i just go from listening. like, took me sooo long to find out the aliens in lindsay ellis' books are called pequod and not p-quad, so be patient with me on that one) so let's goooo, this is an insane one.
Tumblr media
Summary: Samantha Mackey is a creative writing students in a funk. her mother dead, her father hiding from the authorities abroad, her teachers misunderstanding her, and worst of all, writers' block for her dark and edgy stories that still kinda ring hollow to her, because what has even happened to her? also a mentor ignoring her after some alluded to happenings one night after a party when she was super drunk. oh, and the bunnies. we'll get to the bunnies. basically, the one bright spot is her best friend ava, a super tall gothy lady wearing a veil and meshed gloves, inviting her to live together, making fun of her elite school and everything lame, and totes not her sapphic obsession, nooooo.
anyway, the bunnies. her cohort in writing workshop, a four girl stereotypical cutesie girls' club, imagine mean girls mixed in with insane ammounts of cotton candy. overly cutesy, always hugging and everything, calling each other bunny at all times ("how was your weekend, bunny?" - "oh silly bunny, we were together. at bunny's house, remember?" - "oh yes, that's right, bunny! love you, bunny!")
so this candy cotton group and samantha are the only members in workshop. and it could go on like this - until the bunnies invite her to their "smut salon". with ava acting super weird, and the bunnies being welcoming, samantha dips her toe into the bunnies' world - and gets dragged under.
except, bunnydom isn't just fun and games and teas and cupcakes. there's a whole frankenstein-ian experience. samantha has to struggle with her identity, power, friendships, and so on.
General Feelings: oh my god. this is... insane. seriously, i still don't know quite how to feel about it, but i think i love it. i can't even tell you the genre, because it mixes so many things, so many tones. it's a wild ride that keeps you guessing what the hell is going on. there's one big twists among many others, which you can absolutely see coming, but then again, i prefer that to twists coming out of nowhere.
that being said, the novel has flaws. the supernatural elements are never really explained. you keep wondering how the characters even learned how to do it. how it all made sense. you don't find out much about the bunnies' deals. samantha is mostly a passive protagonist, getting swept around by the plot and other characters (though to be fair, that gets called out in the story). her reactions often make little sense. and sad to say, it doesn't stick the landing, with the climactic scene leading to basically no consequences for anyone.
still, very enjoyable, if you're willing to go a little crazy.
Recommendation: Definitely check this one out. I plan to give it a second listen, see how it holds up when knowing all the twists.
Spoilery feelings:
(prob still vague; not sure how much sense this makes if you haven't read it)
so samantha is a very unreliable narrator, but honestly, i like this kind of unreliable. one thing i'll never forgive a book is if the narrator actively lies to the reader (like, the reader. if the story is told as an interrogation and he lies to the interrogator that's one thing. but if it's just straight narration and a few chapters later the narrator is like "lol, no, actually it happened this way:..." then i'm out.) anyway, her unreliableness is interesting, especially because it makes me second guess a lot of things actually happening. probably doesn't help that the bunnies' are constantly on some sort of undefined happy pills.
the first scene with the "hybrids" (don't call them boys, except they're always boys) is nice and creepy. the bunnies invite samantha to a prom-themed party, with just them, and the four bunnies all have dates that look very handsome, but also kind of similar with the same eyes and weird leather gloves, and ask the same intense questions. which is weird enough. except, then samantha's first crush shows up who she hasn't talked to in forever, with the same gloves and eyes and weird intense questions. you wouldn't immediately assume that someone did a weird experiment and transformed a bunny into a boy (i said don't call them boys!), but you'd expect her to be weirded out. not go "oh, he's here, this is amazing!"
i love the pretentious ways the bunnies describe their experiment. like, blending art and different species, and making "hybrids" and "darlings", but in the end they just try to magic up boy toys.
best thing is when samantha is part of the bunnies and the narration changes, when she's basically talking in first person plural and all the bunnies are a collective.
on one hand, i wish the bunnies were a bit more distinct, but when i think about it, it's just the duchess who seems super reserved, so maybe that is her distinction. and they're this collective, so it all makes sense.
i know she loves ava, but i thought she was sus for a loooong while. like, janis from mean girls toxic. and then i wondered if she was real or if samantha had just conjured her up from her imagination, like a hallucination. still, the way ava is described through the book is done really well. like, you see that samantha cares about her a lot, and the more it progresses the more you see that it's not just friendship, way before samantha is ready to name it, like a very nice solidifying realization.
i didn't like max. like, his whole deal. and his project with the bunnies. didn't really like their humiliation either, because... honestly, what was so bad that samantha needed revenge on them, anyway? their whole humiliation scene felt weird, and not that funny.
now, the climax actaully was pretty cool, so i liked that. but then, it ends, and... nothing happens. the bunnies are very injured, but graduate. samantha graduates. has a potential love interest hanging around despite her ignoring him for most of the book. everyone goes their own way, bit of a fizzle.
...ok, i know i mostly put the flaws in here. but mostly because the flaws are what stick in my head, and which i have feelings about. despite the flaws, this book is a very wild ride, and a lot of fun. so, if you're still here, go check it out.

honestly, the happily/unhappily divorced tripped me up, because what does the happiness rever to? like, are they happy to be apart? are they divorced and happy/ok with each other? was it a mutual decision? idk, and probably still had problems defining my headcanon. but yeah, won't stop me from blurting it out. so, my headcanon is that sebastian's grandfathers met during the war and befriended each other, actually stayed friends after. so growing up, his american dad and french mom would see each other regularly, maybe even have childhood crushes on each other, and eventually got married. (there's a whole monsieur claude backstory to sebastian's maternal family, but that's not relevant here). they were happy at first, but then they had their first child, colette. and beatrice was not happy being pregnant or being a mother (she used to be an artsy, boheme type, probably an actress before). and now there were all these expectations of motherhood that she couldn't meet, and xavier was working like crazy, and she hated it. the marriage deteriorated over the next years, and they specifically had sebastian as a fix-it baby. ...surprise, it didn't work. (which gives sebastian issues, cause guess what, the first thing he was supposed to do and he messed it up, like it's his fault or sth) eventually, beatrice had enough and went back to paris, taking the kids along bc she knew her conservative parents would cut her off if she abandoned her children. except, they wouldn't accept divorce either. and xavier had to promise his mother at her deathbed that he wouldn't get a divorce (she was also big on sanctity of family and w/e, despite her husband having at least one illegitimate daughter). so they were just separated. except then, at some point, sebastian as a teen gets in so much trouble that his grandparents (who did most of the raising, cause his mother fell into a spiral of self-pity and alcohol) had enough and sent him back to the us, and the escalation was something so shocking for sebastian's dad that he eventually chose to get a divorce despite his promise and all the hassle. so in the future, they're divorced, sebastian's mom is really bitter about life in general and her ex in particular, and his dad is... honestly, doing okay, but still very bitter towards his ex-wife.
