will never shut up abt how crazy the ending of les mis (musical) is. it ends on a call to action!!!!!! its detrimental to the message of the musical!!!! think about how profound it is - you sit and watch so many innocent, hopeful, undeserving people die for two and a half hours, and then at the end they come back and tell you to keep fighting. you would think the message, after watching everyone die, would be some lame shit like “violence is never the answer” or something, but its not!!! it says “you have just watched innocent people die fighting for justice and freedom. the fight is hard and you may not see the fruits of it in your lifetime. but that is irrelevant - knowing the hardships that come with it, knowing the fight is never over, will you continue the fight? when the revolution comes knocking, what will you do?” and you can say that its uninspiring because of just how much tragedy is in it, you can argue that they ‘died for nothing,’ but at the end of the day, you’re watching this musical with the comforting knowledge that things have changed since then, and thats hope!!! the hope is knowing that as long as there are people opposed to the injustice in the world, things will continually get better even if you dont live to see it. and, furthermore, that the modest life you live now isnt any less meaningful just because you dont get to see the of your effort - as long as you were kind and loving, your life has meaning. its!!! so !!! crazy!!!! im not saying its not a flawed musical, but its one of the few pieces of media about revolution/rebellion that emphasizes its struggles without dismissing it as unnecessary. it would be so easy to have written about the february revolution (which hugo lived through and could have written about) and had a happier story about a succesful revolution - or even a story about the first french revolution - but hugo sepcifically chose not to do that. he chose the 1832 rebellion because, among other reasons, he wanted to emphasize that the fight for freedom is not always linear. and the musical reminds you of this, and encourages you to fight anyway.
prophet grantaire redraw but i stole the glowing eye design from encanto
//cassandra to apollo. he is a doomed prophet cursed to nobody believe him. has a vision about the fall of the barricade years before even meeting the les amis. and when he does meet them he tries to warn them but they are relentless, and he is a crazy alcoholic. but he cant make himself leave. stays, tries to prevent his friends death by abrupting the meetings and causing problems. his visions are more violent as the day comes, he cant sleep for months because of the prophetic nightmares. and then. when the barricade fells and all his friends are dead, the prophecy is completed and he can sleep after god knows how long one last time.
My best friend made a barricade for me as a present!! It’s amazing and I love her so much. Details include bullet holes in the flag and blood spatters all around the barricade.

She has felt everything, borne everything, experienced everything, suffered everything, lost everything, mourned everything. She is resigned, with that resignation which resembles indifference, as death resembles sleep. She no longer avoids anything. Let all the clouds fall upon her, and all the ocean sweep over her!
