Today I introduced my sister to “the problem of Susan” and I had to explain to her that Susan was left out of Narnia cuz she liked boys and lipstick now and without missing a beat she said but what about Peter? Does Peter not like girls? And I knew she was pointing out the inherent misogyny at the center of the “the problem of Susan” but the implications of that question are a source of much hilarity to meeee LMFAO like Does Peter not like girls? Does he like boys? Is he Gay? Is Narnia really just a homo-utopia where Lucy is also a lesbian and Edmund is a bisexual disaster and Susan was kicked out cuz she was too straight??? Can I make CS Lewis turn over in his grave with this new reading?

PSA: Don't use Open Office
I keep seeing people recommending Open Office as an alternative to Word, and uh... look, it is, technically, an open source alternative to Word. And it can do a lot of what Word can, genuinely! But it is also an abandoned project that hasn't been updated in nine years, and there's an active fork of it which is still receiving updates, and that fork is called LibreOffice, and it's fantastic.
Seriously, if you think that your choices are either "grit your teeth and pay Microsoft for a subscription" or "support free software but have a kind of subpar office suite experience", I guarantee that it's because you're working with outdated information, or outdated software. Most people I know who have used the latest version of LibreOffice prefer it to Word. I even know a handful of people who prefer it to Scrivener.
Open Office was the original project, and so it has the most name recognition, and as far as I can tell, that's really the only reason people are still recommending it. It's kind of like if people were saying "hey, the iPhone 14 isn't your only smart phone option!" but then were only ever recommending the Samsung Galaxy S5 as an alternative. LibreOffice is literally a version of the same exact program as Open Office that's just newer and better – please don't get locked into using a worse tool just because the updated version of the program has a different name!

Thoughts on magic words in fantasy settings.
I really like the idea of magic words as just a release pin on a trebuchet. The word itself is meaningless. A wizard makes a spell, winds it up to take effect, and designates a word to trigger that effect when spoken aloud, and the reason magic words are so weird is because you really really emphatically don’t want the trigger to be something that comes up in conversation.
This is different from magic rhymes. Everything sings, and old magic, truly old magic, wants to sing. The Kalevala tells us that Väinämöinen could sing the mountain cliffs to crumble, could sing a wooden sledge to turn back into budding branches. “Grandly sang wise Väinämöinen/Till the copper-bearing mountains/And the flinty rocks and ledges/Heard his magic tones and trembled.” Magic sings, and making a magic rhyme is to harmonize with magic itself.
And that includes “Skidaddle skidoodle your dick is now a noodle”

So I got this comment on one of my moodboard posts:
Tumblr media
And I started to reply and then I thought... it would probably be easier to make a post.
Now, I'm not a graphic designer or anything, just a fan who likes to express her creativity in different ways. So this is my method:
Choose an app (for phone or tablet) or graphics programme (if you're on your computer) and download and install it. I use PicsArt but you can also use Canva, Photoshop, POTO, and even your gallery app. Have a look around until you find one you like.
Find some images you like - I use a combination of movie/tv screenshots, celebrity photoshoot pics, Instagram screenshots, and pictures I source from Unsplash/Resplash. There are other sources of free-to-use pictures out there, but I mainly use the Resplash app.
Open up your app or program - here's the home screen for PicsArt. Click/tap on the + symbol at the bottom
Tumblr media
The next page has several options to choose from. Scroll down until you see the Collages option. Choose from Grid, Freestyle, or Frames.

Then, it's time to choose your images. I have lots of photos organised into folders on my tablet. I'm going to choose some pictures from my Resplash folder for this example.

Lookit these cute doggies
Tumblr media
Now you can choose border size, background colour, ratio, and a different layout if you want
Tumblr media
There's lots of other things you can with PicsArt but for now I'm just going to click through to the save and share screen. You can choose to save it to PicsArt or just your device, among other options.
Tumblr media
So, that's the basics! PicsArt has lots of tutorials, so it's easy to figure out how to use it, but I think the best way is to just get in there and experiment because it's got soo many features!
@fantasylover4evr I hope this helps you!
