Red’s top veggies to start with:
So you wanna grow some veggies for the first time, but you have very little space/very little sunshine/very little patience?  Here are some of my favorite picks for
Quick gratification (relatively):
Radishes– Goes from seed to eating in as little as a month, which is about as fast as it gets. If you don’t like spicy then a) read variety descriptions and find a mild one, b) keep them well watered and don’t let them get big, or c) cook them. They stir fry nicely, and cooking takes out the heat. 
Rattail radishes– For something a little more space consumptive but lots of fun, look these up. It’s a radish plant, and it tastes like radish, but the part you’re eating–is the immature seed pod. So like, a radish green bean. They’ve always been ridiculously prolific producers for me, IF you keep the pods picked clean and don’t let them mature. Also, they’re pretty:

Lettuce– Even the big varieties rarely take more than a foot square fully grown. Loose leaf is less fussy, and can be harvested a bit at a time. 30 to 50 days to maturity (garden speak for time from seed to eating, presuming decent conditions. For example, if you planted quite early in spring, the cold weather would probably slow the plant’s growth).
High yield in a small space:
Beets– Okay I know, not a super popular veggie, because people are wrong and mislead. If you think you don’t like the flavor of beets, I suggest you a) pick some up fresh at the store and try them with a good recipe. Maybe glazed with carrots. Or, b) Try yellow beets. They’re sweeter, and have significantly less of that distinctive “dirt” flavor. Meanwhile, beets are a high calorie, high nutrient crop that grows quickly in a small space, and if that’s not compelling enough, you can eat the greens too, so there’s basically no waste.
Kohlrabi– Don’t know it? You should. Oh man. So you know how a ton of the veggies we eat are just the logical extreme of a wild mustard plant? Collards and cabbage are all leaf, broccoli and cauliflower all bud, turnips all root? Well, kohlrabi is all stem. Fucken wild, right? And inside, that stem is sweet crunchy solidly edible flesh– we eat it like carrot sticks, but also good for soups, salads, stir fries…also you can eat the leaves like collards, so again, no waste. They’re fast, problem free growers.

Green beans– if you have a south wall you can trellis on, or room enough, you can grow runner beans and those are even heavier yielding, but I generally get pounds of green beans off a few bush plants, and they need less than a square foot per plant. Do read carefully to see if your chosen seeds are runner or bush, though, because it makes a big difference to their growth requirements. They’re more prone to pests than the other things I’ve mentioned, so you might have to do some research into your local problems. But then–green beans. Green beans good.
Tomatoes– A three gallon pot of snacking tomatoes will be all the snacking tomatoes you want. Great patio/balcony plant. 
Not a lot of sun
Leaf lettuce– Yes, again. Leafy greens generally can usually grow in part shade, and lettuce even benefits from it in hot weather during summer. Most leafy greens will do alright in partial shade, so also pak choy, mustard, ets.
Carrots– carrots are in some ways not a great beginner crop, because they need good, loose soil. I usually prepare a special carrot bed every year with extra compost and a good dose of sand, and, since I have clay soil, I dig that in quite deeply. BUT they aren’t bothered by partial shade, really.
Leafy herbs– not the Mediterranean ones like thyme and rosemary, but parsley, cilantro, chives, chervil, and lovage do well in partial shade, and of course the flavor they provide is a disproportionately effective addition to your diet.
There are a lot more; this is deliberately a small dose of information. For those already interested, I strongly recommend digging into a good book, of which there are many. Each plant has its own needs, and you can no more treat two vegetables the same than you can care the same way for a cat and a dog. But that also means that there’s probably at least one vegetable for every situation.

This also applies to spell work. Some seasons are for absorbing and some seasons are for action. If you feel more invigorated with your craft in a certain season and feel less inclined during another. That’s normal. And it also applies to certain times of the day. Find your rhythm.
There are no rules on when to be productive.
If you cannot function in the morning
You can do your work, homework, chores, etc. at 3am
You can go grocery shopping at 11:29pm on a thursday
You can shower, make your bed, brush your teeth at 3pm
You can write an essay in your bed at 9pm and go to bed at 1am
Don't force yourself to wake up at 5am to be productive and then think the day's ruined when you wake at noon
Doing something in a weird way is still doing something

Phoenix Fire Spell: Lovers to Friends
Explanation:
Following the days after a break up (this really only works with a clean healthy break otherwise you have a lot to work on before performing this. My Phoenix fire spell requires a peaceful mind.) If you and your partner have established your boundaries (it’s healthy to have time and distance away from your person. It will give you both time to heal. So you can come together in a healthy way.) And when you are ready to finally let go of them. Perform this spell to ensure that you will be able to develop into close friends in the future.
Items:
3 candles (1tea light candle and 2 chime candles) (one to represent you/them/and one that represents you together)
string
bowl
rain water
music that reminds you of them
The other person’s consent to friendship
fire
fire safe surface to burn on
cleansing incense
Paper to write on and a pen
Instructions:
Part 1: (Cutting ties)
On a full moon, gather together two chime candles. One that best represents you. One that represents your ex partner. Tie a string between the two and listen to music that reminds you of them. Be it a song you liked together or a genre that they liked, or a song you like that makes you feel the way you felt with them. On a fire safe surface, place your two candles tied with a string between them. Light each candle and begin to write down all of the emotions that come to mind about that person. Negative or positive. Take this time to listen to the music. Cry if you need to. Feel the emotions. But also focus on what these emotions can do for you. Rather than “why is this happening to me?” think “How is this happening for me? How is this what I needed? How will this split from this person empower me?” Focus on your breathing during this. Your breath is what guides you into and out of your body. Be grounded, if you disassociate from sadness, use your breath to feel your way back to your body. Use your mouth as a portal. Take the paper and burn it beside the candles. (ON A FIRE SAFE SURFACE)
Once the candle burns, and the string it burnt between the candles. Say into the universe your ex partner’s name “____ I release you”
(Please please be careful with the ritual above as it requires a healthy amount of emotional intelligence, and a clear mind. This exercise, done in the wrong way, can spark mental health breaks if you are not ready to face your own shadows. Relationships ending is due to two people not just one. And please remember that everyone we love will say goodbye to us one day. By either dying or leaving us. The death of a relationship is not the end. But you need a healthy relationship with those feelings before doing this next step)
Step 2: (lasting friends)
After completing the step above grab your tea light candle that represents your new friendship together (you MUST have consent for a future friendship for this part to be healthy. Taking someone’s free will in this spell will cause karmic backfire) Place it in a cleansed bowl of rain water and light it. Play music that brings you peace and meditate on what you want that healthy future relationship to look like. Write down these thoughts and feelings on paper. DO NOT attach any desire to get back together with this person. Or any other romantic feelings. If romance returns down the road that is so wonderful, but once again this spell will backfire without the consent of your ex partner.
Fold your paper up and use the wax from your melting tea light to seal the paper shut. (I suggest tongs to pick it up) And then completely submerge the candle in the rain water and say:
“These new foundations bind us as friends. And leave us open to new opportunities together.”
Dispose of the candle, and pour the rain water out (you can take an extra step and give the water to a plant that you love as this energy will be very harmonious.)
Keep the paper with the wax seal close to you. On your alter, on your person, or somewhere generally safe where you won’t forget it.
Every full moon manifest the friendship and refresh the spell by holding the paper and saying
“My ties to ___ are unbroken. My love for ___ is unbroken. If friendship is for us I manifest it now.”
Always remember actions are just as important as spells. The universe will only give you what you manifest. If you are willing to do the work. This spell takes a lot of understanding of your own shadow work. So please be very careful. And as always, I hope my spell can bring you peace and healing.

Hiya! I’ve got a great drink for you to celebrate the upcoming Autumn Sabbats:
Lavender Cider Tea:
This one is super easy.
Serves: 1
Ingredients:
3x Apples
water to cover but not over fill
blender
french press for coffee or cheese cloth (and a funnel and bowl if you use cheese cloth)
1tblsp vanilla
1tsp cinnamon
1tblsp of food grade lavender
1tblsp of sugar (I use monkfruit sweetener myself)
Directions:
1. Chop apples into chunks removing the core. Blend the apples in your blender with enough water to cover
2. Pour apple mix into french press and slowly filter out the apple purée. (If using cheese cloth. Add apple purée slowly. And let it drain. After, squeeze as much fluid out as you can) Do this a few times until mostly clean. (took me a couple filters, but I do smaller batches)
3. pour cider into a saucepan to heat. Add sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla
4. once heated, skim off some of the scum that floats to the top. And pour into a cup with your lavender (I use a reuseable tea/spoon steeper.
5. Let steep for 3-5 min
(I use the leftover apple purée and I make a doggy treat, I mix in plain yogurt with a bit of natural peanut butter and stick it in the freezer for my dogs later. Just make sure there’s no seeds)
Enjoy! Great for sleep or celebrating a harvest sabbat. Or if you want to do a past life regression journey. As lavender has great mental benefits.

Pumpkin chocolate chip bread recipe

Ingredients
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour divided
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
3/4-1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1 1/2 cups pumpkin puree
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup milk
2/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat oven to 350°F. Place oven rack to the middle/lower third of the oven. Spray a 9x5 bread pan with nonstick spray.* Set aside.
In a large bowl whisk 1 ½ cups flour, baking soda, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice and salt together. Set aside. 
In medium bowl whisk the eggs, sugar, and brown sugar until combined. Add the pumpkin, oil, vanilla, and milk. Whisk until all ingredients are combined. 
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Stir using a rubber spatula. 
In small bowl add the remaining ¼ cup flour. Toss in the chocolate chips so that they are covered in the flour. 
Add the chocolate chips to the bread batter and stir to combine. Don’t overmix. 
Place the batter in the loaf pan. I like to sprinkle a few extra chocolate chips on top of the batter once in the pan. Bake for 65-75 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. (Mine took about 68 minutes).** Also, if you feel like the top is browning excessively, you can cover the loaf with tin foil to prevent more browning from occurring. 
Remove from oven and let cool in the pan on a wire rack.
This bread can be frozen! Just wrap it in tin foil, place in a zip top bag and freeze for up to 3 months. When ready to thaw, remove from the freezer and place in refrigerator overnight, then bring it to room temperature.

Baking a brioche on a stormy afternoon. A slow living approach.

We had a stormy day last week. The weather was gloomy and it was really windy. I decided to bake a Brioche. Bread making is such a great activity to slow down, and brioche are such a decadent treat. 
Making brioche was really hard for me the first couple of times, and I wish I watched videos on how to make it. 
 Brioche makes wonderful food for any celebrations of the pagan year! You can adapt the recipe to your need and add the flavours and herbs. They are perfect for you feasts are they are the embodiment of the little luxuries, the little extra we enjoy on a celebration day! At the end, I give you some ideas to adapt the recipe to each of the sabbats!
Prep time: 40 min
Rest time: 1h30
Proving time in the fridge: a whole night
Cooking time: 25 to 30 min

Material needed:
A standing mixer with a hook or a hand mixer with hooks. If you don’t have any of those, you can mix by hand but it is going to get really messy and it is much longer.
Ingredients
2tsp dry yeast
4tbsp milk
1tbsp suger
250g plain flour
30g sugar
125g butter at room temperature
3+1 eggs at room temperature
1tbsp Cointreau or Rhum
Recipe
Activate the yeast by mixing 2 tsp of dry yeast with 4tbsp of luke warm milk and a tbsp of sugar. Mix well and let it rest for at least 15min. The yeast is activated when there is a fluffy foam on the top of the milk.
In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt and butter together until crumbly.
In a small bowl beat 3 eggs with a tbsp of Cointreau or Rhum.
Add the beaten eggs and the yeast to the crumbly dough.
Start mixing with the robot for at least 5 min. The dough is ready when it is smooth, silky and sticky (don’t worry about that)
First proving:
Cover the bowl with cling film and let the dough rest in a warm place. Near a radiator is really good or in the oven at minimal heat (no more than 30°C / 86°F). Let it rise for about 1h30 or when the volume has doubled. If there is a wind draft, the dough will never rise.
Second proving:
Once the first rising is done, punch the dough to remove the gaz accumulated. At this point the dough is really sticky and that’s normal, don’t be tempted to add more flour. Cover the bowl again and let it rest a full night in the fridge. The dough will rise a bit again.
The day after:
Pre heat the oven at 180°C/350°F
Sprinkle flour on your worktop and start rolling the dough in a large cylinder. Cut it in 3 equal parts.
Roll each part in a long sausage, then braid them together.
Beat one egg and spread it on the braided brioche with a brush. It will make the crust gold and shiny
Bake 25 to 30min at 180°C/350°F

A few important tips:
This dough has a lot of butter that make is very sticky. That’s why the nigh in the fridge is very important. It makes the dough hard enough to be manipulated. Try to work quickly so the dough stays cold.
If you don’t have room temperature butter, shred the butter with a cheese grater it will do just fine.
No alcohol? No problem! Try to perfume the brioche with vanilla or orange zest!

Sabbaths celebrations ideas:
Mabon - 20th-22nd September - Add some sliced apples to the dough before the first proving time
Samhain - 31st October - Add a tsp of pumpkin spices to the flour.
Yule - 20th-22nd December - Add orange zest and orange juice to the mix instead of the Cointreau
Imbolc - 1st February - Don’t change the recipe it is perfect for this celebration day!
Ostara - 20th-22nd March - CHOCOLATE! Add chocolate chips to the batter before mixing everything together
Beltane - 1st May - Use 30g of honey instead of sugar
Litha - 20th-22nd June - Again, you can use honey and also add oranges. Maybe brush a bit of orange marmalade when it is straight out of the oven
Lughnasadh - 31st July - Add Strawberries / Raspberries / Blueberries to the mix before the first proving time
