Small artists you need to understand that when you see an artist who you think has 'made it' tells you not to worry about the numbers and to not fret about getting more likes than reblogs they are not telling you it because they think you are stupid for caring or because they dont need to network to survive they are very likely telling you that because they have witnessed first hand the way the numbers game tears people to shreds in terms of mental health and motivation

I low-key love the fact that sci-fi has so conditioned us to expect to be hanging out with a bunch of cool space aliens, that legitimate, actual scientists keep proposing the most bizarre, three-blunts-into-the-rotation "theories" to explain the fact we're not.
Some of my favourites include:
Zoo Theory: What if there are loads of aliens out there, but they're not talking to us because of the Prime Directive from Star Trek? (Or because they're doing experiments on us???)
Dark Forest Theory: What if there are loads of aliens out there, but they all hate us and each other so they're all just waiting with a shotgun pointed at the door, ready to open fire on anything that moves?
Planetarium Theory: What if there's at least one alien with mastery over light and matter that's just making it seem to us that the universe is empty to us as, like, a joke?
Berserker Theory: What if there were loads of aliens, but one of them made infinite killer robots that murdered everyone and are coming for us next?!!
Like, the universe is at least 13,700,000,000 years old and 46,000,000,000 light years big. We have had the ability to transmit and receive signals for, what, 100 years, and our signals have so far travelled 200 light years?
The fact is biological life almost certainly has, does, or will develop elsewhere in the universe, and it's not impossible that a tiny amount of it has, does, or will develop in a way that we would understand as "intelligent". But, like, we're realistically never going to know because of the scale of the things involved.
So I'm proposing my own hypothesis. I call it the "Fool in a Field" hypothesis. It goes like this:
Humanity is a guy standing in the middle of a field at midnight. It's pitch black, he can't move, and he's been standing there for ages. He's just had the thought to swing his arms. He swings one of his arms, once, and does not hit another person. "Oh no!" He says. "Robots have killed them all!"

I’ve been completely floored in response to the the positive response to my GLORIA! angel comic, and am super happy that people of various faiths and backgrounds have found that it resonated with them. I definitely intend to continue exploring the subject of angels and biblical depictions and stories in the future, and can’t wait to share what I have in mind with all of you!
However, I’d like to address something that I’ve seen a lot in the tags/commentary on my comic and angel artwork–a lot of people have complimented me on making my angels look more “accurate,” since I draw angels with many eyes, limbs, and more like eldritch horror creatures rather than humans with wings. While I definitely appreciate the compliment, and am glad that people like the designs, I’d like to clear up some misconceptions!
Angels, in the Bible, are NOT necessarily huge eldritch-abomination creatures!
(Disclaimer: I am not a scholar, but I’m very very interested in Biblical history and texts, and a lot of my work is inspired by things that I learn while looking things up! There are a lot of folks out here who are much more knowledgeable about me when it comes to this subject. Also, as I am Christian, my perspective focuses mostly on the Christian aspect and less on the role of angels in Judaism or Islam.)
Most of the time when “angels” appear in the Bible, they are described not necessarily as a separate celestial being, but simply as being a “messenger” (in Hebrew, “malak/malakh”)–and the word is used both for “angels” as well as simple humans delivering messages, the point being that angels carry God’s messages. And these messengers are not necessarily monstrous or particularly otherworldly. For example, the angels that appear to Abraham, Lot, and Hagar are either not described physically or are simply described as “visitors” or “men.” In the Greek in the New Testament, the word “ággelos,” also “messenger,” is used similarly, and the angels that appear to Mary, Peter, and Paul, as well as the angels that greet the women at the Resurrection, are more or less in the appearance of ordinary humans, albeit generally with the implication that they are there on greater spiritual errands, etc.
The funky trippy looking angels that people are the most interested in, the ones with the many wings and eyes, the seraphim and cherubim, and the Four Living Creatures of Revelation, are very specific and are not described as “messengers” in the same ways that other angels are. Cherubim in particular are always associated with either the throne of God specifically or with other sacred objects, such as the ark of the covenant. Seraphim (”the fiery ones”) as depicted in Isaiah 6, also seem to have specific roles that have to do with God’s throne. Also, the etymology of both creatures may or may not have connections to similar creatures in other Near Eastern mythologies as well. ( @aph–lietuva have any thoughts on this?)
Overall,  I understand that people are generally bored with humanoid designs, especially when it comes to the run-of-the-mill white and blonde looking angels. However, this doesn’t mean that human angel designs can’t or shouldn’t be explored, especially when it comes to dark-skinned angels of color, or angels of varying body types. This is a good post that goes into some more detail over these misconceptions on the subject of angels and depictions of biblical angels of color in particular that’s good reading as well.
“But if this is true, why do you still draw angels with lots of eyes/looking really abstract?”
I personally love drawing funky looking angels because I think it’s a fun and abstract visual way to convey the feeling and experience of inhumanness. Since in GLORIA! a huge theme is the sense that angels are “spectators” of the created world, I love emphasizing their eyes. If I was depicting the way angels were perceived by humans, I would probably draw them looking more like humans, but when telling a story from the perspective of the angels, I like showing a more eldritch side to them as well. Also I just think it looks neat, and I think I can allow myself some artistic license.
TL;DR; The tetramorphs with many eyes/heads are the elite fancy boys and aren’t the end-all be all of angels and there’s no need to be snobby over humanoid looking angels; and especially if you aren’t seeking to be Biblically “accurate,” then there is honestly no “right” way to draw angels, especially if you are writing or drawing fantasy!

I see the tags you left on my original fiction reblog! Please tell me about that character! :D
So like. I only have the detective guy worked out(He came to me literally in the MIDDLE OF ART CLASS HELP ME-/j), and it's only slightly, but hey! :D
Tumblr media
This is Harvey Mccalister! He's been a detective for. a while and has been working day in and day out on this one case about your average murder case that's been going for a while. The main story sorta picks up with him just sorta following a lead and, when he seems dejected that there's nothing there, the murderer throws him a bone to keep the "game" going :)
He's a bit of a grumpy fella who. y'know. has a wee bit of a drinking issue(He's trying his best, he swears), and a cute little pitbull named Arlo :)
That's what I have for him so far at least lol(This was very cathartic, thank you!)
