listening to other peoples' character playlists is fun because you hear a song on it that you know and you're like 'oh hehe that makes sense' or 'oh wow this is making me consider this set of lyrics in a new way that's really cool'

however the other side of this coin is that you'll hear songs on a character playlist you haven't listened to otherwise and you go 'wow that's a cool song' but now everytime you listen to that song you're reminded of blorbo bleebus. this will forever be the blorbo bleebus song and there's nothing you, i, the song's artist, or even the person who made the playlist can do about it

Okay so like. I have seen this a few time across fandoms but like.

Basically, when a storyteller is established to be an unreliable narrator, it suddenly throws everything they say into doubt. This is normal. And then you get people being like "we cannot trust a single thing this character has told us it's all lies" and like. Here's the thing...

It's a story. You're suppose to engage with it. Everything you're being told is ALREADY a fabrication by the AUTHOR. If you choose to doubt every bit of information you recieve you are rejecting the story being told.

Like. Is there a reason to doubt a particular piece of information provided? Is there any inconsistency? Your POV character probably isn't a mind-reader so they can only make conjectures about the motivations of other characters, so you should probably take their biases into consideration when judging other characters by their words. This does not mean they're lying about their physical experience on their world.

Like. You have to engage with the story. Consider. What is more interesting as a narrative to you? That everything is a lie? Or that everything is true besides the things you have a reason to doubt?
