I had the privilege of bringing worship to @thehotelcafe 2 weeks ago and it was exactly what my soul was needing. The last performance I ever had was at Hotel Café and I was blasted. This time was just a blast! Thank you to the incredibly talented @davidcollinsmn for not only slaying guitar, but bringing the beautiful emotion that comes with piano and your soul to our set. For some, seeing is believing. 2 years ago I entered a life of recovery. I was on my own highway to hell, drinking myself daily into pure obliteration. You’ll never know the depths of addiction unless you’ve experienced it. The evil pull that reels you in seems impossible to beat… it’s not. And I’d like to be a ray of hope for those of you working through the madness. I’ll keep it real with you, it was a struggle to stop drinking. We as a society have normalized polluting our bodies. From happy hours to toasting at special occasions, we celebrate life with the thing that will eventually take it. And it was difficult for me to come to terms with the fact that I was losing a part of me that I had built an identity around. After 3 months, I began feeling like Honey again. I could smile without forcing it, the twinkle in my eye reappeared, and the compassion within my soul was ignited. It’s been 2 years. And as I write this post, my eyes are filling with tears, a lump is forming in my throat and nothing but gratitude fills my body. I’ll never be able to express how I feel. I can only show you. I pray my actions, music, and the words I use express my truest colors.
