Look i dont wanna sound like a Fandom Mom or whatever but what do you think women over 25 or so are supposed to do? Do u really think theyre supposed to drop all their interests and just talk about taxes and marriage or whatever? It seems like 25+ year old fanboys do not receive this kind of “ooh cringe” reaction either. There are guys in their 40s with comic book collections and shit and people might think theyre a nerd at worst, not a freak who shouldnt be trusted

I don’t know who needs to hear this today, but… fanfiction’s meant to be fun, and it’s okay to write whatever you want to write. There’s no way to write something that absolutely everyone will like, no; but you’re still allowed to write that story that’s in your head, to ship that pairing you love, to play with AUs and ‘what if’s’ and OCs and everything else.

Worried that people may not like your fic because it deviates from canon? Nothing in a fanfiction is 100% canon, so don’t worry about it!

Worried that people won’t like your story? I guarantee you there will be people who’ll love it!

Worried that people won’t like the pairing your story focuses on? There will absolutely be other people who love the pairing!

Other people are allowed to not like your work; yes, of course they are. There’s nothing in the world that every single person unanimously enjoys.

But that doesn’t change the fact that you are allowed to like your work. You are still allowed to like making it. And you are absolutely still allowed to make it.

Don’t ever let other peoples’ opinions bring you down: you have fun writing that story because you love it, and I promise you, there will be others out there who will too. <3

Can you do something for me, please?

I want you to reblog this if you believe that two people can be very close and physically affectionate with one another, but still have a completely nonsexual, non-romantic relationship. 

Even if the two people in question are capable of being sexually or romantically attracted to one another.

Elves don't last long: a theory on why Andreth is the only known woman to have been with a male Elf.

Let's look at this excerpt from The Nature of Middle Earth:

On the other hand the act of procreation, being of a will and desire shared and indeed controlled by the fëa, was achieved at the speed of other conscious and willful acts of delight or of making. It was one of the acts of chief delight, in process and in memory, in an Elvish life, but its intensity alone provided its importance, not its time or length: it could not have been endured for a great length of time, without disastrous “expense”.

I.e., come fast or die.

Note how Elven ladies are all over the place for Men: Lúthien and Beren (heck, Lúthien's mother is a literal demi-Goddess, gotta be someone to please someone who's 1/2 divine), Nimloth and Dior (1/2 Man, 1/4 Maia, 1/4 Elf), Idril and Tuor, Elwing and Eärendil (1/2 Man, 1/2 Elf), Arwen and Aragorn.

I do suspect there were more mixed unions of Elves with Men from the different Houses (Bëor, Haleth, Hador), and who knows the heck happened in Rhûn, Khand and Harad, but let's go back to canon.

Andreth is the only woman we know of to have been with a male Elf, Aegnor.

If I were a lady, I would indeed mate an Orc or a Man rather than an Elf if it meant to last longer than 10 seconds.

Christoper Tolkien was the shield between us and Elf sex. He was the one to preserve Elvish dignity. Rip.

What is this nature of Middle Earth thing I'm going thorough your blog trying to find our and I am Terrified.

It's a collection of hitherto unpublished Middle Earth essays by Tolkien, due for publication this autumn. There's a preview available, and there's A Lot about chronology and Tolkien trying to do the math to make the story he had already written somewhat plausible within the framework of a timeline where one elf year is at least ten human years. My favourite part of this is the note he wrote in pencil at the bottom of one essay: "This will not fit the narrative in the Silmarillion. What of Maeglin?" Even Tollers himself realises, at some level, that his timeline is completely nuts and requires olympic levels of mental gymnastics to make it work.

However, the thing that's blowing up in the fandom (because of course it is), is the fact that Tolkien also writes extensively about the elven life-cycle, including procreation:

This seems to imply that a) elves have sex for fun and not just for childmaking purposes and b) elves fuck hard and fast.
