I think Cassian is just truly stuck in the middle when it comes to the feud between Nesta and Rhys. Obviously he has an obligation to Rhys as his brother and general, and Rhy vice versa, but he also loves Nesta. Cassian is well aware that Nesta doesn’t need him to fight her battles and of course he will always be worried about her and where her hotheaded indépendance will take her but Cassian knows that Nesta herself is an uncontrollable force.

What gets me is that Cassian is doing all he can to not make that choice between Nesta and Rhys and I think that’s because he knows how Nesta’s mind works. The thing is, Nesta already thinks she is a burden to Cassian and thinks her emotions are too much for anyone person to handle. She knows Cassian loves her but can be insecure about relying on him. I think, internally, Cassian knows that if it ever came to a choice between his brother and mate, Nesta would leave him because she rather leave than force him to choose fearing that his choice will lead him to resent her.

Just a reminder that Cassian does stand up for Nesta against Rhys -

"I'm pissed off that you can't seem to believe even one good thing about her. That you refuse to fucking believe one good thing about her..."

And Cassian obviously didn't stay mad after the mask incident if he was eating chocolate cake with Ember and Randall and saying he hopes he sees them again!

Yeah, it’s definitely understandable and although I think he should’ve maybe approached Nesta with less hostility I think it’s SJM’s way to hint that maybe a reconciliation is on the horizon for these two. Although they left off in a good point in ACOSF it felt very rushed, but that’s only my opinion.

Given the political environment of Prythian, Koschei, Nyx, and him and Feyre almost dying it’s a no brainer to say that Rhys himself is under a lot of pressure. I think, like Theia, he believes that having hold of all the troves will give him this sense of power and stability but in turn, having them close could also draw him to the point of insanity. I’m not saying he’s going to go to that point because Feyre is there to pull him back and plus he has his Inner Circle, but because he’s pretty much the self-sacrificing type he might reach that level of insanity because he feel likes he need to take all the burden on himself.

People being mad that Rhys is mad bc Nesta literally just gave away the Mask with the very real possibility that it might never come back/might fall into the hands of the Asteri... like... how is that reaction not reasonable?

Would Feyre have given it to Bryce? Probably. But there would have at least been a discussion. And that's the difference.

Like, hate on Rhys all you want, but I'm not seeing how this is an unreasonable response.

I’m not saying that what Theia did was right, but I feel like it could be argued that using multiple troves at the same time probably messed with her mentality… like, look at what the mask did to Nesta, just the mask, it made her kind of like a puppet to its whims. I can’t even imagine what all the troves put together can do to one person.

I think this goes to show that Rhys should definitely not be high king and he should not be able to have power over multiple troves. I know in pass books he kind of has this cool exterior, but I feel like going into this book and knowing the spoilers ahead, he is kind of going down this path of insanity. I’m not saying that he’s going to go full on insane, but the worries he has for his court and family added with the need to protect them can lead down a similar path of that of Theia.

I was thinking of something while reading HOFAS

This doesn’t really spoil the nature of HOFAS’s plot but if you’re still wary then ignore this—

In ACOSF it was said that Nesta had to give back what she took from the cauldron and we were made to believe that it was her powers. However after reading a bit into HOFAS it still seems Nesta still bears those abilities—the deathlike flames at least. I think that the only power she took away from the cauldron was the ability to ‘make’ things (like Atraxia).

But seeing that Nesta is Mother-blessed, I think her flame like powers most likely come from the Mother. What if the Mother blessed Nesta because the Mother and the Cauldron operate as singular entities? We know the Cauldron can be manipulated by whoever uses it, so what if the Mother wanted there to be a person capable of destroying the things the cauldron makes because they go against the mother’s visions?
