they are āpro elainā because they can easily turn her into a blank canvas and self-insert as if she was the good old mary sue.
both they and azriel have this in common ā making her into something she is not.
On Elain
You are "pro-elain" because you have a flat perception of her character that is shrouded in purity culture. You treat her like a self-insert feminine entity to wipe away a dark, tortured Azriel of his sins. The same Azriel that only lusts after her and desires her because a) she's the prettiest of the Archerons and b) he will NEVER be able to "have" her.
I'm pro-elain because I want better for her and I recognize that the IC is dogshit - they do not care about Elain or see her true potential. You know who does though? Her mate. Her equal. The person she's spiritually most alike and connected to. Another youngest sibling who is neglected by his family and the world, who has lost someone they thought was their "true love", who shares Elain's qualities of boundless kindess and tactful diplomacy. He was the ONLY one to go on a deadly mission on pure faith that Elain's visions were true. Elain, who is "loyal like a dog" (according to Nesta), deserves someone equally loyal back.
We are not the same. Miss me with that bullshit PLEASE-

THIS. Lucien's mannerisms! Every time I see this, I can't help but picture Lucien Vanserra's sassy/snarky/charismatic self.

It drives me crazy when I read that the reason Azriel's words came off wrong in his confrontation with Rhys in the bonus chapter is because he doesn't know how to express himself.
Besties.
We were in his head.
His mind where he doesn't need to verbalize his thoughts. He won't have to hide his feelings or thoughts in his head because he doesn't know readers are looking inside his head. What you read is the extent of what he thinks and feels.

My lovely friend @melphss and I were able to commission with insanely lovely art by @jjflorentina
The artist did such an incredible job showing Elain and Lucien in a sweet embrace.
@melphss thought this quote from Elain in ACOWAR reminded her of a quote from Jane Eyre so I attached both of them. I thought it was a lovely correlation.
Elain: āIt felt.. strange, like you pulled on a thread tied to a rib?ā
Jane Eyre: āI have a strange feeling with regard to you. As if I had a string somewhere under my left ribs, tightly knotted to a similar string in you. And if you were to leave I'm afraid that cord of communion would snap. And I have a notion that I'd take to bleeding inwardly. As for you, you'd forget me.ā

I think itās really sad what has become of the fandom.
I joined in 2020, right before the release of ACOSF in 2021. Sure, things were heated then, too, especially with the release of ACOSF and the introduction of Gwyn. But it seemed like we were able to separate the different parts of the fandom until a few months after the release, when we (eluciens and gwynriels) were constantly fighting them (elriels and vuciens/vassiens? whatever) and it just got out of hand. Obviously, I cannot speak for the time before December 2020, but I heard it wasnāt exactly paradise either.
It really frustrates me to see that even 3 years after the release things are still escalating regularly. Bullying artists, doxing people, just being nasty towards each other. I donāt understand why it is so difficult for so many people to simply post and engage with only the parts of the fandom that make you happy. Why seek out negativity? Why always complain and fight? Why make peopleās days miserable when itās literally only about a fictional character? Like they arenāt real and at the end of the day it. isnāt. that. serious.
My advice for you all, especially the newcomers, is to simply block people. I have blocked and am still regularly blocking elriels who find their way to the elucien tag (also: tagging etiquette in this fandom is simply shit lol). And since I started doing that, I have felt at peace, of course only if I donāt see what the other side of the fandom has been up to lol cause then it even gets me.

ā¦it wasnāt there.
That thing that rose and fell with each breath. That echoed each heartbeat. The mating bond. It wasnāt there. It was gone.
Because his own chestā¦it was not moving.

Rhys [using Daemati gifts]: Feyre darling, let me in.
Feyre [lets him in while still peacefully observing her friend Lucien]: Those strong hands...broad chest and strong shoulders...those powerful thighs...fire in his blood and fucks like it...

Lucien fought for Jesminda. Despite her social status and what it would've meant for his court, his family, and himself, he fought until the very last moment.
When Elain is turned fae, Graysen does the opposite. He bullies her for becoming 'lesser' and then discards her as if she were worthless to him.
One male gave up everything for the female he loved, while the other couldn't even spare polite parting words.
Lucien's fierce loyalty is a trait that bodes well for Elucien's connection. Elain needs someone who will finally show her her value and will not turn their back on her at the first hurdle.

you made a good point here. if lucien hadnāt blurted out (in a moment of overwhelming shock) that she was his mate, he would have known and by not sharing be would have hidden this fact from her. yes, rhys and feyre might have figured out either way, but if elain learned about that later, she would have been just as pissed off as feyre was in acomaf.
by letting everybody know elucien are mates, the dynamic is completely different from the start and it allows sjm to approach their story differently too!
I was thinking that if Elain never gives Lucien a chance (as some people want it to go) then the narrative is basically punishing the mate who was honest and open with her from moment 0.
Because we all know that Elainās issue has nothing to do with Lucien personally, her issue is that she doesnāt want a mate. This rejection would have gone differently if Lucien had kept it a secret from her like Rhys did with Feyre, but it wouldnāt have been fair to Elain, she would have fallen in love with him and realized he was her mate and he never told her, something she explicitly said she didnāt want.
So yes, if thatās how it goes then it would be punishing Lucien for having done the right thing (and continuing to do the right thing).
